US poverty on track to post record gain in 2009

Do you have any concept of what is happening, why it's happening, and how long it will take to undue what W. did?

Any at all?

The talking points from the partisan right perpetuate this microwave-dinner, high-speed internet mentality.

The events of 2008 were 8-10 years in the making. Pulling out of it could take as long or longer.

In case you forgot, the stock market crashed in 1929, then there was a brief upturn in 1930 and we finally bottomed out in the winter of 1932.

We're not out of the woods yet and I haven't heard a comprehensive workable plan from the GOP -- just a lot of "we'd promote job creation and investment..." BFG.

According to Reps, everything the Dems are doing is wrong, but the reasons aren't exactly clear -- just broad brush 'socialism' talking point nonsense.

They seem more concerned with gaining back political power than actually helping.
exactly, the GOP is off track. They want to put down every effort or idea that doesn't originate within their ranks, and even some that did originate with them, once Obama starts using their ideas. They haven't got a viable candidate to run in 2012, so what else can they do but obstruct?

Why stop with W?

Fair enough. The powerful men telling W. what to do & dickie.

But W. did start thinking for himself by the 2nd term. But the wheels were already in motion.

Why don't we go further down the road towards, the "entitlement" concept? First introduced by socialism, i.e. Karl Marx, communism, and most significantly for us, FDR and "The New Deal", followed by Lyndon Johnson.

Oops, I thought you were a reasonable, intelligent person. Just another brainwashed far-rightie who attended Becks U.S. History re-do class.

Johnson and the Dems figured out intelligently that they could buy the "lower class" votes with handouts financed by taxes from the "rich". Deceptive bull**** at its heart since businesses and people who make money as owners of business, simply pass on taxes as a part of doing business. That raises the cost of goods so the "poor", who allegedly benefited by getting stuff paid for by the "rich", end up paying the tax through the back door (their back door) via higher prices.

I already flushed that argument down the crapper when turtle made it.

I'll go slow... People..don't..vote..along..class..or..tax..bracket..lines..there.. are..plenty..of...poor..white..GOP..Voters...

So, your moronic point about Dems tricking poor people is crap.

If they were able to obstruct that economy killing HC bill wouldn't have passed. I'm tired of the reps being called obstructionists when the dems didn't need them to pass anything. All they can do is say hell no to bad policies.
I'm proud of them for the most part. They are listening to the people, unlike the elite "we know what's best" congress we have now.
Dems don't have a viable candidate for 2012. We have several and who knows who else may show up for the party. 2012 is a long way off. Nov is right around the corner and the left is going to get it's butt kicked for the mess it's made of the economy and the policies it has put in place. AND for the way they have treated the people.

Change... you can believe in.

Cluster<Insert F word here>s like this don't happen overnight. Now I do blame Obama for not doing enough, and doing the wrong things, but this started more than a decade ago, when Clinton was in office. I know people have heard this from me so many times that they want to puke, but I will say it again. The repeal of Glass-Steagal protections is the primary cause of all this. Clinton signed the bill, and started the process. The bubble grew, and made the economy look hot during the Bush administration, so he left well enough alone, and did nothing about it. Then the bubble burst, just before Bush left office. Now Obama fiddles while Rome burns.

It takes two to tango, and both parties have spent years dancing together, and do it quite well. They have danced our economy off of the proverbial cliff. If either side wants to be honest, they need to acknowledge this fact. This is not the Bush Recession, nor is it the Bush-Obama recession. This is the Politician recession. If there ever was a time to kick each and every politician you see, Democratic or Republican, right in the gonads, this is the time to do it. They have certainly earned it. It is high time to kick out ALL the bums and start over. The letter after their names shouldn't matter, not to those who really give a damn.

Well, since we're paying them, I thought they might work... you know, do their jobs.

The vibe I get is it's not about pragmatic solutions, it's about a power tug-o-war.

The GOP by criticizing everything with hyper-partisan talking points, gives the impression that there was another, more efficient way to handle things. But does anyone have a clue what that is (was). The GOP counter proposals on health care were laughably unworkable. Did they float a stimulus package or just say we'd promote this, cut that, and free up the market to work, blah, blah... as if the Dems are the enemy of the banking and finance sector.

Of course he doesn't care about the American people. Look at the drilling moratorium.

Yep, another series of lies and deception to push through Mr. Transparency and the Leftist Cadre's agenda.

Up to the challenge on whos point is more moronic? lol

You can argue about how much of a socialist FDR was, but he certainly launched us way down the path, and can be blamed for much of our current financial mess and bloated government. His administration was also responsible for Tuskegee experiment, infecting black Americans with syphilis without their knowledge or permission and tracking the progress of the disease. FDR also rounded up Japanese-Americans and put them into camps, destroying and confiscating their businesses. In nature, little different from what the NAZIs were doing, just a lesser degree.

Ah, revisionist history brought to you by the fans of talk radio. History without all that burdensome context and in-depth analysis.

Gasp! How un-American of you to point to ugly, dark episodes of our history. Didn't you get the memo? Texas is taking it all out.
