Obama to Call for $50 Billion Spending on Public Works

My bet is that yes spending in the name of compassion justifies any tax increase even though it never solves an actual problem but it does give political power.

I can't help but ask if spending $50B to “put construction workers, welders, electricians back to work ... folks that have been unemployed for a long time” is not a compassionate act? Americans working to restore America.

I didn't insinuate anything, I posted an actual event that happened. These are Obama supporters. Those people didn't believe they were stealing, they actually thought they were going to get money from obama and had no idea where it came from. Apparently neither do you.

Get your facts straight, though no amount of facts could shake you out of your pathetic political psychosis. The announcement of the depression was witheld for the election. The fact that things were going bad already speaks to Bush's performance.

What depression? You don't have a clue, there was no depression, there was a recession. Reagan inherited a worse economic situation, 17+% interest rates and double digit inflation. Unemployment rose to 10.8%. Your idea of a depression is not being able to get your IPOD or a Starbucks.

I don't hate him at all, he is incompetent. His resume showed exactly who he was and 52% of the people ignored it. His poll numbers are now in the low 40's meaning helost almost 10% of those that voted for him. Do they now hate him too or do they hate the results his policies have generated?

Isn't that what the original Stimulus plan was supposed to be spent on? Any idea where the money goes that is collected on each gallon of gasoline and diesel purchased?

that is the problem with Obama he appeals to your heart and you ignore the content of his proposals. Nothing wrong with putting people back to work but we supposed spent about a trillion dollars to do that and got what for it? Now another 50 billion? That is nothing more than to appeal to people like you who buy the rhetoric. Any Idea how this is funded?

I just don't get it, we had a Stimulus Plan passed for shovel ready,infrastructure jobs that was supposed to keep unemployment from exceeding 8% that hasn't done as promised, so now we need another 50 billion for shovel ready infrastructure jobs that will do what the 800+ billion bill didn't do?

There is an old adage fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me and that seems to be what Obama is shooting for. Why does anyone believe a word this President says? Anyone believe this bill will be paid for? By the way where did the TARP bailout payback go?

Keynesian economics would suggest that during an economic downturn, it's a good time for the government to borrow the money just like it suggests giving tax breaks to the rich who'll just save the money is a bad idea.

Closing tax breaks? Which breaks are those?

I've mixed emotions about this because Canada is the biggest oil exporter to the United States and this will certainly continue to help our economy. That and refusing to use nuclear, drill more wells, etc. Driving the oil companies out can only help more exploration n Canada.

But, although that money is welcome, it's still not good for the United States. And no matter if he gets that money from 'the rich', or the oil companies, it's still money being spent on more useless projects. The last stim plan worked out to $195,000 for every job created. Can't see any improvement on that this time around.
