U.S. Muslims launch ad to fight 'fear-mongering'

This is ridiculous it's not like Muslim's are facing a wave of discrimination across the country, with the exception of some yahoo setting some construction equipment on fire, I haven't herd anything of the sort. In fact where they not trying to build a Mosque right next to where Islamic extremists killed 3,000 American's, we wouldn't even be talking about them. This almost sounds like an attempt to set the debate up along false pretexts, cause I'm sure CNN and MSNBC have been devoting coverage to the plight of Muslims in America now cause fo this.

All things considered we've been very good to our Islamic community, can you imagine how American's would be treated over there if some American Christian Fundamentalists blew up some Mosque killing 3,000 Muslims?

Daniel Pipes, now there is a reliable source...

Feel free to point out anything he said that was false but don't dismiss his facts because you don't like him.

And he wasn't the only source used.

I completely support this ad campaign. For too long people have been accusing the peace loving Muslims of not speaking out enough. Now what are they going to say? They're speaking out because they are sick of your hate.

I like the ad campaign too. I'd like to see Jordan Muslims, Egyptian Muslims, Saudi Muslims, Syrian Muslims etc... come out with similar campaigns denegrating hate, denouncing organizations which kill in the name of Allah, and the Muslim people rallying around such campaigns as a movement of tolerance.

Do you think Mulsims around the world will be receptive to this ad campaign and will emulate it in other country's?

Ok, so does that mean that ANY building hit by ANY debris is off-limits, because that's half of New York right there.

Or is there a size gradient?

And how do we know a building ACTUALLY got hit with debris?

Actually yes we do know that. I'm surprised you didn't know.

But one of the key players in the mosque, real estate investor Sharif El-Gamal, yesterday said there are no plans to relocate the $100 million project, slated for the site of a building that was hit on 9/11 by a hijacked airliner's landing gear.

Or more specifically that bodies flew through the windows?

Can you prove that Tex?

Hey what if that Mosque 5 blocks away got hit with Debris? Should we tear that down because it immediately became part of the No Muslim Zone?

Why would we tear down exisiting buildings? This is about a new Mosque.

Okay...just checking. You see, I'd never heard of them before. So, when I did an online search for them and found that information on their website, I merely wanted to know if that was the same organization (parent or some form of subsidiary) some have been referring to.

I do find it odd that they'd defend the actions of known or suspected terrorist, terror organizations or suspected supporters of terrorism one minute (at least up until late 2001) and then apparently do such an about face as their petition seems to lend itself to.

As I said, I wasn't defending them. I'd never heard of them before and was inquiring about them to see if it was the same organization.

You never heard of them yet you come out in stanch support of them? How does that make sense?

I have no clue for sure what the solution to the image problem is.

I have talked to many muslims here in America that say they love this country, but still refer to the Jews as evil and Hezbolah as "freedom fighters". If that isn't talking out of both sides of your ****ing mouth, then I don't know what is....What you will NEVER see IMHO is Islam police itself. When sectors of a group become radical, it is up to the group to realize that threat as counter productive and marginalize it. Islam will not do this.

The Muslims will have to make those same hard choices. If you policed your own ****ing people, I would not need to Jihad all over their asses.

I doubt you have ever spoken to a Muslim and we aren't the goddamn ****ing police to take the law into our own hands

You are extremely mistaken

Who has stopped radical christians in the past? Ultimately other christians weighed in and took care of the problem.

Who stopped that radical Christian named Hitler?

Hint: It wasn't just Christians.

To be fair, I don't know if any funds will be coming from CAIR. A man from CAIR was supporting the idea of the mosque and culture center. I tried to remember his name to research. All I remember is his name is Zeid or Zaid and his last name started with A and had maybe 5 letters in it.

I don't know, I believe in private property rights don't get me wrong, but I can absoulty sympathize with the 9/11 families.

My guess however, would be a building far enough away as to not have been damaged by the attacks itself.

Yes, it's all about the 911 families, or is it really? There are several sites, purportedly by 911 families against the Islamic Cultural Center, that actually have nothing to do with the 911 families at all. They are actually financially backed by a man named Frank Gaffney, who is known to many by the name "King of the Birthers". He actually makes Orly Taitz look like an amateur. Some of his statements he has made in the past include:

1) Accusing Obama of speaking in some sort of secret code, saying that the US will submit to sharia law.

2) Accusing Obama of being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organization that is banned throughout the Middle East.

3) Writing an article for the Moonie Washington Times, accusing Obama of being a Muslim.

4) Accusing Obama, in a column for Andrew Breitbart's hate site, of redesigning the logos of the agency which controls our nuclear arsenal, making it a Muslim agency.

5) And, of course, the man is a birther, who believes that Obama is not a US citizen.

As for those who run the site, there are 2 of them - Both relatives of 911 victims. To be honest here, if my wife or one of my brothers had been a victim on 911, it is remotely possible that there might be 3 of them, me included. But my relatives are not victims, so I won't attempt to speak for those 2. I am sorry for their loss. But make no mistake where the funding is coming from - One of the biggest nutters in the entire USA.

But what of other 911 families? Do these sites speak for them? Apparently not. 911 Families for a Peaceful Tomorrow has made a statement supporting the Mosque, and the represent 250 families of 911 victims.

So, in the end, what do the 911 victims' families have to say about the mosque? Human nature, being what it is, shows that there are families on both sides of this issue. I am not going to judge either side here, because I am not in the shoes of any of them. But there is a think tank that wants you to believe that ALL the 911 families are against the mosque, when that is just not true at all.

In the end, it comes down to this. 911 families are not being so much victimized by the mosque as they are by the nutters who purport to speak for all of them, when they don't. It is a lie of the vilest sort. To cynically use 911 families as a political football is the kind of dishonesty you find in the Pravda of the Old Soviet Union, and is morally reprehensible.

Who speaks for the 911 families? The 911 families themselves, and nobody else. Not you, not think tanks, and not those with a political act to grind.

Just my 2 cents here.

Cut to the chase because the rest of your post was rubbish.....

The point here is that in this case the aim is not to maintain cordial relationships but rather to cause as much dissent and outrage as possible. The possible conclusions are that this is a calculated move. None of these possibilities speak positively of the ability of the already inflammatorily named 'Cordoba Initiative' to "demonstrate peaceful Islamic values" or foster any kind of community understanding.

Thats the bottom line, dan "the conservative"

And none of that is excuse to infringe upon their rights. Their property, their rules. Was it a dick move? Possibly, but ain't no law against that.

People can oppose the building of the mosque without hating muslims.
There are just too many red flags going up about it.
I don't think all Muslims should be condemned for the actions of a few. However, those few have killed thousands of Americans.

barb, i do think you're an islamaphobe, unfortunately. i don't like the idea of the mosque, but i would never demonstrate against it. just because i think it's insensitive doesn't mean it's an evil thing to do, and the people who are crying and gnashing their teeth over this are displaying the worst of us. and denying them the right to build that mosque DOES condemn them for actions by a few.

While these muslims have every right to build their POS mosque, to do so at that location, with a goal of opening it on the anniversary of the greatest muslim terrorist murder of innocents on US soil is a cultural insensitivity that can be categorized as nothing short of an outright provocation.

the fact that you call it a pos mosque tells everyone where you land. you clearly hate muslims.

Americans are tolerant people, but when that tolerance is challenged by groups who hate us, attack us, and seek the extermination of our nation, culture, and society, then this becoming a major lightning rod of controversy is understandable.

The straw that breaks the camels back

Some may see it like that. But that's their problem. You can't legally do anything about it, you can't justly interfere. If some people are pansies and can't understand and shoulder the consequences and responsibilities of freedom; that's their problem. If they try to do something about it, particularly through violence; then it's jail for them. Just because you think something is insensitive (and that's ****ing hilarious coming from a "very conservative" type) doesn't mean you get to do anything about it other than sit there and watch it happen.

They are using our tolerance against us. It may be legal but it's WRONG in so many ways.
