Nearly 1 in 5 Americans Thinks Obama Is Muslim, Survey Shows

When did I say Obama is a Muslim, or anything remotely similar? You might want to do a bit of self-fact-checking there.

Who said I was talking about you? I was speaking in general terms.

Considering she was responding to me when she said that, it was a perfectly reasonable assumption.

Harshaw, apdst I want you to go out and find all the NRA members, Republicans, and Catholics that are the bad seeds so that we won't EVER have another Timothy McVeigh.

Also serious lolz at the "anti-Muslim what are you talking about?!" comment.

It's pointless to argue with people who think Obama is a muslim. They have a problem with facts.

If 1 in 5 Americans think Obama is a muslim, then 1 in 5 Americans are idiots.

Tonight I told my best friend that somebody here was alleging that we are more intolerant of Christians than Muslims - she laughed very darn hard.

Tell your friend to google Sharia Law Michigan. See how 4 Christians were treated there.

"Among religious groups, a higher proportion of white evangelical Protestants say Obama is a Muslim than any other religious group surveyed; 29% hold this view today, up from 20% in 2009. But the share of people saying Obama is a Muslim has increased across all religious groups. Indeed, both white mainline Protestants and white Catholics are roughly twice as likely today as in 2009 to say the president is a Muslim. And significantly fewer people in nearly all religious groups say Obama is a Christian than did so in 2009."......SEE THE CHART TO SEE WHO BELIEVES OBAMA IS MUSLIM...."

don't you see, that's proof he is a muslim, he's doing that so people don't think he's a muslim, so he can advance his secret muslim agenda.

I have no idea what you're talking about, or what it has to do with anything I said.

Also serious lolz at the "anti-Muslim what are you talking about?!" comment.

And that's about all you and BDBoop seem to have -- "lolz" -- and assumptions that things are "obvious." Yet little else. You can declare things all day long, but it doesn't make them so.

I think it's pretty damn obvious there's **** tons of intolerance aimed at Muslims, and has been so for quite some time now.

If it's justified, so be it.

I just thank God that Christian's run our country, and not Muslim's.

Backatcha. We have presented facts and word from his own mouth and those of his friends and fellow christians, not to mention his 20 years in attendance at a Christian church. And you have rumors and speculation. But by all means, call that an equal preponderance of the evidence.

Okay, I can't take it any more. There is no apostrophe in Christians or Muslims. There's just not. Stop it.

If it's justified? Seriously. Are you kidding me??

I see no difference between the two religious groups really, so we are screwed either way.

Why are you changing the subject? I never said a word about Obama being a Muslim (or a Christian or an agnostic or an atheist or anything else for that matter), not once, ever.

Changing the subject? Dude? Check the title of the thread. That's the subject. If you're having thread drift, you need to get back on track.

Again the magic 20% margin. It seems that no matter what question you make a poll on, around 20% will constantly hold the most stupid opinions (or at least give according answers).

What bothers me much more is the hysterics when it comes to debating problems. I think more than 50% believe Obama is a "socialist", IIRC, which is ridiculous, at least when judging his policies, and many in the media even foster this idea, instead of finally toning down hysterics and explaining what socialism actually is, and how far America is still away from it, despite all recent policies. But instead catch words like "socialism", "Hitler", "fascism" etc are thrown around.

Looks like a mostly Christian nation, with a mostly Christian law enforcement community caught Timothy McVeigh and put his ass in the gas chamber. Why couldn't the Muslims ever cough up UBL? Or, Mullah Omar? Muslim terrorists find sanctuary within the Muslim Community. Why?

Nice try, but you were saying that in response to something very specific that I said. And you're accusing me of saying things I didn't say. So go back, read what I was referring to, and respond to that (which was something YOU said) -- or don't, if you want to be lazy about it -- but leave the bull**** accusations out of it.

Quite a few Muslim countries have been cooperating with the US and the West against islamist terrorism. Many even have been fighting against islamism within for quite a while.

Others are not that good at doing that, either because islamists are in power there, or because they hardly have sufficient statehood (like a working police) and rampant corruption.

Of course there are certain Muslims who sympathize with islamist terrorists. But I think most Muslims do not. Also, you should notice that when a white, Christian right-wing terrorist committs an act of terrorism in the West, apparently his sympathies in the population are strong enough for many news reports to avoid the word "terrorist" and don't ask how prevalent his opinions are among fundamentalist Christians, but instead play it down by calling him a mere criminal. Why the double standard?

I was talking along the same lines as the convo with Marilyn Monroe, and you butted in. You don't agree with her, say so.

It is clear that many people are not thinking for themselves. They are uninformed and taking for granted the things they hear radicals say on TV, and particularly radio. It's lazy and scary. It's how people like Hitler got to power. Ignorant masses responding to lies designed to get emotional reactions.

 You said something specific; I responded it to it specifically. Whatever else you read into it is your own baggage. I don't care in the slightest what Marilyn Monroe said.

If you want to assume things about people based on preconceived notions, there are terms for that.

This ties in well with the media criticism in other threads. When there is no quality news and reporting in the media again, but everything gets simplified, emotionalized and channelled through partisan glasses, this does have a very bad impact on political discourse and for the free political system in general. A free system cannot persist without an informed public.
