Nearly 1 in 5 Americans Thinks Obama Is Muslim, Survey Shows

Some of you have commented that those who took part in the survey who beleive Obama is a Muslim is bigoted.

Why?

Whats wrong with being a Muslim? If a white, caucasion American believes Obama is a Muslim because of Obama's statements, comments, speeches and support of Islam, so what?

Your being disengenous (s/p) .... so what, if Obama is a Muslim, who gives a s***t.

Thats between Obama and God ... and a hardworking Americans opinion is there own.

Could it be that they are closet bigots themselves? It seems obvious to me.

Muslim=bad

Call someone a Muslim=bigot because Muslims are bad.

In fact ... no one said "Muslim =bad" so I am not sure where you coming from there.

Again, why call hard working Americans racist for saying they believe Obama is a Muslim?

I may not like Islam (I detest the religion, its hatred of homosexuality, its innate anti-Semitism and its assault on women's rights and its built in hatred of Hinduism and Buddhism), but I will die for the right of *every* Muslim to worship in our nation.

What Americans think is not "racist" - its fact.

Are you serious? Do you really think people are claiming Obama is a Muslim and wanting him to come out as a Muslim just because they want him to be honest and that they don't themselves have extremely negative views of Muslims? I don't know what country you've been living in for the past 9 years...

I don't know whether Obama is a muslim or not. God knows Obama's heart and whether he knows Jesus as his Savior or not, and that's good enough for me. And if Obama does turn out to be as bad as they are saying he might, it's Jesus who he will have to answer to, and I'm afraid for anyone who meets Jesus without knowing him, including Obama.

But something stuck in my memory. I was watching an interview with Rick Warren before he was elected and he Confessed Jesus died on the cross for his sins, and that's all someone really has to do to be saved, so for me the issue is settled. It's at 6:50-7:00

YouTube - (Part 2/10) 2008 Presidential Forum at Saddleback Church

Now that doesn't mean he gets a pass for any bad stuff he does, it just means that I heard it from him, and I hope it's really true and I'll see him in heaven one day. Remember, born-again Christians don't have their incorruptable bodies yet, and the only difference between saved and lost people is that the saved have accepted forgivness for all their sins while the unsaved haven't taken Jesus's offer.

Bottom line is, God knows where Obama stands, and God knows what's going on. And yes, I do know about him bashing the sermon on the mount and covering up Christian symbols and things, but he'll have to work those things out with God in his own heart if he is really saved. I know it could possibly not be true, but that really isn't for me to say.

BTW was it nessecerry to attack Christians for no reason? :(

I guess I wasn't plain enough.... try this.

Why would someone call you a bigot for calling someone a Muslim, unless in their own mind, being a Muslim is bad?

Would they call you a bigot if you said someone was a really great guy?

So in your mind, being a Muslim is bad?

I may not like Islam...

Granted, this is purely anecdotal, but the majority of the people I have seen who claim that Obama is mulsim have a similar distaste for Islam.

They also seem to have a dislike for Obama himself.

What I've yet to encounter was a person who had neutral feelings about both Obama and Islam say that Obama is a muslim.

Is that just a crazy coincidence, or it is a general trend?

Because the mental state of the person using the term is relevant.

If I called a gay person a fag, the fact that they were in fact gay would not change the fact that I would be doing so out of prejudice.

Can I borrow your crystal ball? I want to make some investments in the commodities market tomorrow.

Your example would be valid if one were to call a person a ****ing Muslim or the like.

Er, that's not actually how crystal balls (supposedly) work?

Your example would be valid if one were to call a person a ****ing Muslim or the like.

Okay, pretend I called him a homo or gay. Same concept.

So 1/5 Americans is paranoid... or maybe they're just ahead of the curve. Sine none of us absolutely know what religion Obama is, don't we have to assume that either could be true?

My brother used to grab my arm and use it to hit me in the face. Then he'd say: "why are you hitting yourself?" This is what your posts remind me of. I weep for anybody who debates you as though you have credibility.

I would probably bow to the King of Saudi Arabia during his state visit.

That was quite a bow. Would you really go that far?

I go to church less often than obama.

Thats not much of a stretch.

I would ditch Rev. Wright as well.

Would it take you 20 years to do so?

That never happened.

Actually it did. Its on youtube everywhere. He was trying to be sarcastic but it failed miserably.

I "support" the mosque in the same way obama did.

How can you say that? He wont even tell us how he feels. All he had said is that he supports religious freedom and he claims to have retracted his Friday night's statement of personal support for the location.

Or because they felt that you think being a Muslim is bad. Nice attempt to twist things, but it really does not hold up.

This survey is not at all that surprising, not too long ago 26% did not know or were unsure which country we gained our independence from. There are ignorant people out there.

To be clear, he was born a Muslim according to Muslim law.

-- Any children born to the wife will be considered Muslim. They will usually also be considered citizens of the father's country.

-- The husband's permission is always needed for the children to leave an Islamic country despite the fact that the children will also have, for example, American citizenship. Foreign immigration authorities can be expected to enforce these regulations. The ability of U.S. consular officers to aid an American woman who wishes to leave the country with her children is very limited.

International Divorce - Islamic Family Law

That doesn't mean he is now but his past history, some key remarks, his refusal to pick a church and attend on a regular basis fuel the rumor.

My personal opinion is that he is nothing in true life and joined the church and was baptized in it because he needed political backing. His apparent "catering" to Muslims stems from his history of living abroad amongst Muslims and his father's Muslim family.

I didn't realize I'd need statistical data to make this assertion. I thought it would have been obvious to everyone that the majority of these people would be Fundamentalist Christians.

Not that I have any sympathy for christians (fundamental or otherwise) but why would it be obvious? Oh and FYI Obama as a member of a black power liberation theology church is a radical christian.
