I've hated the ****ing FDA every since they pulled my Vioxx. The ****ers. The more I hear about what they do, the more of a waste of govt money I think they are.
I agree with you about the FDA, but I can't help but wonder if Vioxx had caused you to have a stroke or heart attack that you wouldn't be blaming them for approving it in the first place.
I remember when the FDA approved Phen fen, a diet pill that the FDA had to have known was linked to pulmonary hypertension and death in women because tests done in Europe were linking the drug to an outbreak of deaths in European women and they had pulled the drug off the market. Thats the reason Phen fen stands out in my mind because I had heard about the European studies and so I could not belieeeve it when the FDA approved it here. Soon billboards advertising the diet pill were everywhere and doctors were prescribing it like candy. I don't even think the doctors were aware of the risks, because I asked my own doctor if he knew about risks and he tried to assure me the pill was safe. So now I don't even trust the judgement of doctors, let alone the FDA. But sure enough, reports started pouring in from all over the US of women sick and dying from pulmonary hypertension linked to Phen fen and it still took quite a few deaths before the FDA finally pulled the drug off the market.
Former FDA Official Condemns Fen Phen's Approval
So I agree with you about the FDA only for the opposite reason. But still, I truly believe we need someone to approve drug safety, and if not the FDA then who or what? DEFINITELY NOT the drug companies.
