I'm going to take it about as seriously as I did Goldendog's claims that the murder of an IRS agent in Tennessee was inspired by Glenn Beck. I'll believe it when I see the evidence.

I have no doubt that it's being followed up on by federal agencies, AS IT SHOULD BE, but the cartels have already made far more credible threats on U.S. officials, IMHO. And those threats received little national attention.

Arpaio, in my book, is a huge attention whore. That can never be forgotten in stories about him.

What does "take it seriously" mean to you? To me, it means turning it over to the feds to investigate, but until they report some confirmation on it, taking it with a grain of salt, and not getting too riled up about it.

Do I think the cartels are a huge threat? Oh, hell yes. I've said for years that Mexico was a much bigger safety risk to our country than Iraq. But this story doesn't make me feel it more strongly, it's just more of what I knew was already going on, and it's not a particularly credible report of a specific threat.

This is not new.

To me, it means taking it at face value and increasing some security measures until it is either disputed or confirmed with evidence. It certainly doesn't mean to start using it as a political ax to grind against opponents locked in a divisive social battle as Hatuey devolved to doing in his first post.

Let's be straight. I think that Jan Brewer is a total racist. Having said that, though, I have no problems with Arizona's law.

Arpaio, though, is a complete ruhtard. I'm pretty sure they're already taking security precautions with him, but I don't take him seriously at this point on any subject.

For the record, in my former job, two people threatened to kill me. One was a member of GD, another was a member of 21st Street. Some death threats are more serious than others. I would put this in the less serious category. In other words, I reported it to my department, but didn't spent a lot of time worrying about it.

Do I think precautions should be taken? Absolutely.

Do I think that this will turn out to be a farce? Absolutely.

If you notice in my first post I made it clear that Sheriff Joe is a jackass.

I am fairly certain it may amount to nothing too. In the meantime, I would like to make a show to the cartels that we are not lax in protecting our own citizens...even the ones we detest.

Oh, I think we should start bombing the **** out of them, personally. They're a menace, and they're committing more and more crimes on the southern border of the U.S., to an alarming degree.

Obama will probably remain completely quiet on this. Of course, the sherrif is a Republican, so who can blame him.

A huge part of this illegal immigration law in AZ is designed to stop the massive amounts of drug trafficking that is being ignored from coming across their borders.

Just another bullet in the chamber of what is going to be a helluva fight in the coming days. And as always, the liberals are on the wrong side, this time aiding and abetting the types that make threats like this.

I don't find this story credible as it was reported. It is, I'm sure, being followed up on by DEA and possibly FBI. However, it smells like a publicity stunt to me. This isn't how these guys commit assassinations.

That's exatcly how I see it. The same people who in Mexico kidnap 10 cops in broad daylight and then dump them in a plaza are the guys who are going to send a text message to some completely unknown person from a Mexican cell phone? Well that just seems like bs. If somebody from cartels who are far more dangerous than the mob ever was wanted to get Arpaio, they would have already found him in a box somewhere.

Your post is stupid. The fact of the matter is that a destabilized Mexico on our southern border and narco trafficantes pose a threat to our national security. That should be neither overstated---nor hyperbolically understated.
