Rangel charged with multiple ethics violations

Ok, the last few days we've had the Shirley Sherrod thing in the news. That seems to be dying down. Now they drag out ol' Charlie after waiting two years.

Is there something behind the curtain we should be looking at?

The financial reform bill is done.
The cap and tax bill seems to be dead.

I don't know, the timing just seems odd because his name hasn't been brought up for a while and now Bam!

Rangel has become a liability to the Democratic Party. And he's a close ally of Nancy Pelosi. This is a very hurtful situation. Someone “special” needs to tell Rangel that his career in the House is over.

I would agree. Especially when you remember that his is a "safe" district. Having him move on will not cost the dems a seat in congress.

My instincts tell me that Rangel is about as corrupt as they come. Just something about that guy that makes me want to cover my wallet everytime I see him on TV.

On the contrary, I think it's a smart move on the democrat's part.

First of all, it allows Pelosi to say "See? I told you we'd clean house and fight corruption. We've gone after one of our most powerful house members, kicked him off Ways and Means, and now we're going after him."
You're kidding right? It's been 2 years since Pelosi was to drain the swamp and she's the person protecting these corrupt people. No one marginally aware of Congress will believe such nonsense as Pelosi cleaning anything. Hence, 11% approval rating for Congress.

Second, chances are he won't lose his re-election anyway (as someone else noted, given his district). And even if he does, it's pretty sure another Democrat would be elected.
Let's hope he's removed forcibly from Congress - as his supporters in Harlem NY apparently like corrupt Federal officials. An investigation there might be warranted as well at the State level. Albany is as dirty as Trenton NJ is... bottom of the barrel.

Especially, when they are black politicians. Yes?

Any politician. We don't hold them to standards, and neither party is really going to invest in ethics investigations. They don't want to open the flood gates. If the Republicans went after the Democrats seriously, and vigorously for ethics violations they know that the Democrats can turn around and do the same thing to them. They're all a bunch of rats protecting their own. Which is why politicians do not suffer from any accountability these days.

Yeah, probably corrupt. Forty years in the House makes for a lot of time to practice. But I actually got a kick out of the guy. If you ever had a chance to listen to him when he wasn't in a political debate, he came across as a likable fella.

Just read this morning that Rangel is 80 friggin' years old. Have to imagine that retirement will be one of his compromise options. :)
