Michael Steele, RNC Accused of Concealing $7 Million in Debt

Pains me to say it, but MrV has a damn good point. If Steele goes, who replaces him?

:) I happen to really dislike Steele, and thought his choice was a crass move by the GOP when it happened, and it's been a disaster ever since. However, Dan started this and made a pointed demand for a "real Republican" and that begs the question as to who would be that sort of person to fill the post? I can think of a couple of folks that would be on my list. Newt would be one, if he is willing Fred Thompson would be another.

For starters, how about a Republican who doesn't give the impression that the Republican party is pro-choice? You see, the problem with Michael Steele is his mouth.

Yeah, but does anybody really LIKE being chairman? The Democrats did ok last time and people still were bitching at Dean. Who were some of the past GOP chairman?

Names Dan, names. You fail to give names.

That's cause Dean is nutzoid. I'll have to do some homework on that score, l8r, going out shortly.

Honestly, I think Sarah Palin would be ideal for RNC chairman... er, chairwoman. She has a savvier political eye than many people give her credit for, and has already become to a large extent a face of the party. I don't think she should/will be President, but she's going to want to get a position in something eventually. She'd do a better job than Steele, in any case.

How about a Republican who doesn't give the impression that the Republican party is retarded? Seriously, if you're harping on pro-choice, I don't think you're seeing the bigger problems here.

What does the RNC chair...do anyway? And what makes you think Palin would be more qualified in any way beyond her being more popular?

I'm pretty sure they oversee the party's distribution of funds and efforts for different candidates across the country. Which she already sort of does some to begin with, since all of her endorsements somehow end up being big news. I figure it might as well be more official.

Please.... make this happen?

The Republican National Committee (RNC) provides national leadership for the Republican Party of the United States. It is responsible for developing and promoting the Republican political platform, as well as coordinating fundraising and election strategy. It is also responsible for organizing and running the Republican National Convention. Similar committees exist in every U.S. state and most U.S. counties, although in some states party organization is structured by congressional district, allied campaign organizations being governed by a national committee. Michael Steele is the current RNC chairman, and will serve until January 2011.

This does sound like a giant pain in the ass as well as expertise that you would think would be more to political strategists and not the candidate. I am going to post every chairman since 1960. The wiki does indicate that Bush I was the only person to be chairman and President and that many were governors. You really think Palin wants to take a pay cut and do this?
