USDA Official Saying She Didn't Give 'Full Force' of Help to White Farmer resigns

Not this late after the fact.

We aren't talking about hearing this from a few days ago. This was a few months ago.

And the NAACP still hasn't apologized for it.

Yes, sadly - they only spoke out against what she said because it became public.

Andrew Breitbart strikes again!

I can't wait for the excuses from the NAACP and the progressive left.

YouTube - NAACP Bigotry in their ranks

See...I think this is kind of bull****. If you watch the video...ms Sherrod was calling HERSELF to repentence and accountability. She was pointing out that she recognized in HERSELF the bigotry that she was displaying and she moved to correct her actions. God bless her we NEED more people like her in positions of power and authority.

Anyone that DOESNT believe that ALL PARTIES...ALL RACES...ALL GROUPS have members and representatives that are or have racial biases is either a liar or a fool. But there are enough legitimate cases of racism that need to be and should be addressed. This particular person and case is not one of them. maybe a slap on the wrist, but MAYBE a promotion. Based on what little of her I know and have seen (which is admittedly not much) I'd be THRILLED to have her running my office.

Vance, baby, yet again, I'm reminded how much I internet <3 you.

yes, that is how it happens. the press reports something, people react.

So how's that work when the press is aligned, or sympathetic with the group they are supposed to be calling out? Then I guess we get groups like the hypocritical NAACP calling out TEA party members, while they are allowed to go unchecked in their own house.

I think this is a problem all around these days. The media has forgotten its role to challenge societal institutions, and instead relies upon currying favor with organizations and governmental figures in order to maintain access to sources.

The Rolling Stone article about McCrystal was a good example of how the media now works...I suspect that McCrystal fully believed that the Rolling Stone writer would cover for him because he was given access to the halls of power. That's the brave new world we now live in.

i don't believe the press is "aligned" with the NAACP. and in case you didn't realize it, this has been brought to the public. i think the entire video should be viewed, btw.
we have msnbc and we have fox. i hope you believe that both are biased and culpable.

I heard about this incident on the Laura Ingram show of all places. I just happened to be listening to the radio on my way to work when the segment started; had no idea who was speaking at the time.

Anyway, as I listened (gritting my teeth 'cuz the segment started out w/Obama bashing then conveniently slipped into the GA-NAACP meeting concering this woman's actions) I couldn't help feeling angry about this. My first thought was, "What if this had been some white person who did this to a black farmer?" But now that I've read other people's commentary where it's clear that the woman was actually telling on herself and speaking of how she conducted herself unprofessionally, well, the reaction from the audience as discribed by Laura Ingram makes sense. I haven't reviewed the video, but based solely on what Laura Ingram said and the reaction from those who have reviewed the video along with that portion of the transcript Aunt Spiker presented herein, it would appear that the audience wasn't applauding this woman's poor conduct. They weren't agreeing with her mistreatment of the white farmer. They were applauding her admission for doing wrong and the corrective actions she took. Still, I'd have to review the video (from home since it's restricted from where I work) to confirm this, but like those who are claiming that the "liberal media" is bias, I'd say that until you show the video in it's entirety those who support right-wing media are also just as bias because they didn't tell the whole sotry - only that portion which supports their bias agenda.

Nonetheless, what the woman did was wrong. She did the right thing by resigning otherwise, she deserved to be fired.

Wait a minute, what are the facts of these cases? A black lady says she acted in a racist manner in handling her government job. Nothing happens. Information becomes public by Fox and the lady resigns from her position. What is there to condemn?

Facts of another case. Tea Party people have various demonstrations. There are occasional demonstrations of racism by some members. Nothing happens. NAACP makes information public. One of the Tea Party people is kicked out after racist writing.

In both cases, Fox and NAACP made information public. In the first case, NAACP gets condemned for racism. So are we supposed to condemn racism by Fox for only publicizing the second case and not the first.

I'm confused where anyone is doing anything wrong in both of these cases with the exception of the racist behavior. NAACP is supposed to look after the rights of African Americans, Fox is supposed to look after the rights of conservatives. Looks pretty even to me.

And there you have it, folks! A classic "tit-for'tat".

To put this in perspective...

A Liberal organization looking after its own.

A Conservative media outlet doing what they believe was necessary to "even the score".

Only difference here is the black USDA employee admitted to her wrong doing and subsequently resigned of her own accord, whereas, the extreme Tea Party member had to be kicked out and has yet to acknowledge his wrong-doing. Doesn't seem quite fair to me, but regardless both were wrong for their racist conduct. Just seems as though the woman learned her lesson long beforehand, whereas, the Tea Party member may well continue with his deplorable actions. Doesn't seem fair does it?

Four months after the NAACP event at which she made her comments. If they were so outraged at her blatant racism, why did the NAACP wait until the video became public to do anything?

If you're not caught -- it didn't happen you see.

I really do not understand "I took him to one of his own". Huh? Is he an alien or something?

Yikes...I reread it...a little soap boxy!!! Still...it bugs me that she resigned and her boss didnt say hell no I dont accept your resignation...or that people even expect it. Who here HASNT done SOMETHING that we recognize in ourself that we prolly shouldnta oughta done? And who has the guts to call THEMSELVES to public accounting?

I agree. Recognizing that we are all a little bit racist is a crucial ingredient to sorting out our racial issues in this country.

When was the last time we had people that could honestly wear the label "journalist"? I used to read the RS all the time...and if they would just let go of the bias and attack EVERYTHING with the same zeal they do conservatives, I think they would be that...and honestly...I think if they were that fearless their market would expand.

Now with all the knee-jerking out of the way, a little more information...

Sherrod spoke to CNN on Tuesday, explaining that she told the story of her actions — which, she said, occurred 24 years ago when she was working for a nonprofit, not the USDA — to illustrate how she has since realized that everything is not about race but "about those who have versus those who do not have." She says she later became friends with the farmer and his wife.

I dont think HER comments were racist. I do agree that the indictment comes from the people watching...not knowing where it was going...and when she was describing what she had done they were in the background laughing, clapping, and "thats right!"..."uh huh!" The audience is far more guilty of racism than a woman that put herself forward as a learning opportunity for all of us.

This is just another racist BS story from the Right Wing. Sad.

Breitbart's Sherrod/NAACP story disintegrates

Yesterday, Andrew Breitbart released heavily-edited video of a speech that Shirley Sherrod, then-USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development gave at the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia this year. Breitbart writes that in the video, "this federally appointed executive bureaucrat lays out in stark detail, that her federal duties are managed through the prism of race and class distinctions."

But Breitbart's suggestion that Sherrod was describing actions that she recently took as an Obama administration official is clearly false.

Well then - by all means - show us the *full* version so then, in her speech context, she can reprieve herself.
If she continued with her story and got past her racism then I might change my mind - but taking her word on it, or Breitbart's word for it - won't happen.

The video of now-former USDA official Shirley Sherrod released by Andrew Breitbart's Big Government discussing work she did with the Federation of Southern Cooperative/Land Assistance Fund was an excerpt from a longer speech. According to Sherrod, the video doesn't show the full context of her remarks and leaves a false impression.

Conservative bloggers have raised questions about the abrupt end of Breitbart's tape, and wondered what the rest of the tape shows. The Atlanta Journal Constitution's Jay Bookman also raises questions about the full tape:

We've seen this before. When the Attorney General of California finally got ahold of the unedited version of the Breitbart-promoted Giles/O'Keefe videos attacking ACORN, he called them a "highly selective editing of reality."

Based on Breitbart's terrible track record with the truth, until he releases the full, unedited video the version of the story that he's promoting lacks credibility.

If the full length video out there will show the full picture then by all means, I'd love to watch it. But since a certain someone doesn't want to release it - I have no choice but to draw a conclusion based on what we do see, here.

Now - do I feel that maybe she was heading in a different direction with her story? Possibly - the last lines in her speech before the video is snipped points in that direction. But does that mean she's not possibly a racist? No. Does that mean that she didn't bring foul to this man and others based on race throughout her life - no.

I don't believe people can just change their selves that easily and get over their racism and such issues - it just doesn't happen that quickly. It would be nice if it did. We could all stage racist-interventions worldwide, put them in rehab and send them through therapy.

But in my book - unless I see astounding proof otherwise - I believe that once a racist always a racist.

Auntie...watch the video in the OP...she does just that...she calls herself into accounting. and as i understand it the actual act occured two decades ago.

There are LOTS of racists...I just dont think she is one. I hope if I ever see in me what she saw in herself I will have the integrity to change.

Of course it is.... Her saying she had discriminated against a white farmer was nothing but an illusion, just as the ACORN workers never turned a blind eye to child prostitution.

Apologists like you would be entertaining, if your views weren't so sad, dishonest and pathetic.

"
I didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough so that when he - I assumed the Dept. of Agriculture sent him to me, either that or the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture - and he needed to go back and report that I did try to help him. So I took him to a white lawyer that had attended some of the training that we provided; because chapter 12 bankruptcy had just been enacted for the family farm. So I figured that if I'd take him to one of them that his own kind would take care of him.

That's when it was revealed to me that it's about the poor VS those who have. And not so much about white - it is about white and black - but it's not. You know, it opened my eyes. Because I took him to one of his own. . . . "

This is all we have - the last 1/2 of the released video.

She states that "it is about black and white . . . but it's not" and then states "it opened my eyes" . . . and obviously continues beyond the video itself but continues onto what?

Does she really continue on to reprieve herself?
I don't know.
We don't know.

Does that mean she feels *racist* now - maybe - we don't know.

You're not gonna have a leg to stand on if it turns out the video was unfairly cut Grim.

In a CNN interview today, the wife of the farmer called Sherrod a "friend" and praised her for having "helped us save our farm."
