Pentagon sends out "don't ask, don't tell" survey

Wow - this is hysterical considering that "how the troops feel about showering with gay guys (and so on)" is EXACTLY why we have "Don't Ask Don't Tell" to begin with.

If it started BECAUSE of our soldier's opinions - then shouldn't it end with their opinions?
Who do you think they shower with now? And how does ending DADT make the situation any different? You will still have those gays who want to keep their sexual preference secret. When DADT is repealed and they are found out they can't be thrown out of the military because they are gay.

Its about time we found out the troops in the field about this issue instead of the talking heads in Washington....

Pentagon sends out "don't ask, don't tell" surveyFrom Barbara Starr, CNNJuly 7, 2010 4:15 p.m. EDT

Washington (CNN) -- The Pentagon on Wednesday began sending out to troops a survey of more than 100 questions seeking their views on the impact of repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" restrictions prohibiting gays and lesbians from openly serving in the U.S. military.

An administration official confirmed to CNN that the survey is being sent to 200,000 active duty troops and 200,000 reserve troops. The official declined to be identified because the survey has not officially been made public.

They're also surveying 150,000 military family members.

I have several issues with this survey. (My husband is active duty.) First of all, over 100 questions? Holy cow! Not only is that time-consuming but with so many questions what are they going to do with the information? They'll have so much to "pick and choose" from.

The military medicial satisfaction surveys we get are less than 20 questions in length. Take that for what it's worth.

Also, since these surveys are being sent directly to people's emails they're not anonymous. Gates is encouraging gay soldiers to fill out the surveys. Is that safe? lol. Is it even safe for straight soldiers? If they repeal DADT and allow gays to serve openly and a soldier was not 100% in favor of that, will it come back to haunt him later on in his career? I know the article I linked says it's being done through a 3rd party to protect privacy but I'm not sure everyone being sent the survey will believe that and that will skew the results. In fact, gay soldiers have been warned NOT to participate.

I got a question for you Navy...

What are you gonna say if it comes back that the Majority of the military wouldn't mind DADT being overturned?

I will live with it.....What will you do if they don't?

Stand by for mass defections from senior petty officer from the Navy

Blow jobs in the shower.

Not allowed under current rules, and still won't be allowed.

But they wouldn't be allowed to act openly gay. j/k They'd have to issue safety glasses to keep the water out of their eyes.

Well I won't like it... but just like you I'll live with it

Fair enough buddy. Fair enough.

The biggest problem I have with getting rid of DADT is that it will mean another stupid waste of time training event I will have to go to which just keeps me from doing my job. The odds of there ever being any open gays where I work any way are, I think, very very rare. Also gay insults are probably the biggest type of insults I hear on a day to day basis from command on down so I expect after they repeal DADT that might become a little less often

I dout it highly Navy. Most people today, even those in the Navy, are not as homophobic as you are. Most will react like good soldiers do and will follow the order like they would any other order.

Again you are clueless on the subject...You know nothing about military life especially the Navy....Go pay you 10% surcharge on your state taxes.............

Not for me, unlike you I served my country so that people like you can whine........

I meant it's unfortunate for you that those damned liberals wont give it up. Just a matter of time, my right-wing friend.

And I served after you so that you can continue to express yourself as you do.

I find it perfectly reasonable to field these issues to men and women actively in service, since the policy changes will affect them directly. It's also useful for getting feedback on how living and working might need to be restructured to accommodate this rule change. Make no mistake though, it's going to be lifted. It's just a matter of figuring out the most accommodating way to do it.

As for the other stereotypical remarks about gays in this thread, I find them to be the distasteful echos of the mindset of a former generation that is stifled by ignorance, and a reminder of why progression is needed.

The problem is "Feel good Liberals" and a few militant gays don't care how the men in the military feel about the issue.........Its their way or the highway...........

They are the minority. DADT is going to be lifted one way or the other, and most people, both on the activism side and on the military side, favor moderate policy and realistic approaches. The fringes shout loudest but they don't represent everyone.

You do? All 3 million active and reserves? Or just a handful, leading you to an incomplete at best view?

I never claimed I did know. You are being defensive about something I didn't even say. Calm down.

You are the one doing the whining, Navy....and service to the country does not give you carte blanche on bigotry.....sorry.
