From MSNBC:

Two dozen masked men vandalized a U.N. summer camp for children in Gaza early Monday, burning and slashing tents, toys and a plastic swimming pool. It was the second such attack in a month.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Islamic extremists have accused the main U.N. aid agency here of corrupting Gaza's youth with its summer program of games, sports and human rights lessons for 250,000 children.

The article goes on to note that Hamas is the main competitor in running such camps. While it remains to be seen whether Hamas actually carried out the attack, it should be noted that Hamas has looted UN supply offices and stolen gasoline from deliveries in the past. More importantly, it should be noted that there has been a slow but unmistakable trend toward Islamization in the Gaza Strip since Hamas violently seized control of the territory in June 2007.

I think Hamas is stupid for hurting organizations trying to help Palestinians.
It seems the blockade is starving Gaza of development and common sense.

Common sense was lacking well before the blockade.
They did elect Hamas after all.

As to the OP, it's saddening to hear about those incidents since those UN summer camps are usually the escape of the Gazan children from the indoctrination of Hamas and the other Islamic militias.

Where is the common sense linking this action by Hamas or their supporters with a blockade to keep rockets out of Gaza?

People may remember a U.S. UN representative complain about the " blame America first" crowd. Not it seems like there are many on this site who are in the " blame Israel first" camp.

Even if one is to condemn Israel for what's going on in Gaza, it's obvious that Hamas is doing nothing to help their situation and making it far worse for Palestinians if they didn't cause most of Gaza's current woes to begin with.

Gaza gunmen 'set fire to UN summer camp for children'

BBC News - Gaza gunmen 'set fire to UN summer camp for children'

Quote(Masked gunmen in the Gaza Strip have set fire to a United Nations-run summer camp for children.

This follows a similar attack in May on another UN-run summer camp.

Some militants view the UN as a symbol of the West and claim that the summer camps allow boys and girls to mix freely - something that the UN denies.

The attackers tied up the guard at the camp in central Gaza before setting fire to chairs, tables, easels and other equipment.

The UN says about 25 armed men attacked the beach camp in the middle of Sunday night.

Nobody was hurt, and nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack. )

Now why would anyone want to deprive children of some respite from the hardships of life?

Quote(But in a similar incident last month a previously unknown Islamist group said its had attacked a UN summer camp in Gaza city.

The head in Gaza of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees condemned the attack as "cowardly and despicable".)

Seems to be par for the course within Gaza.

Quote(Hamas, the Islamist movement that controls the Gaza, condemned the previous attack on 23 May.

Some in Gaza though believe that such attacks involving so many men could not be carried out with at least the complicit support of Hamas, BBC Gaza correspondent Jon Donnison reports.)

Seems a reasonable assumption!

Quote(Hamas also runs rival summer camps.)

Especially as Hamas run their own albeit more militia based summer camps.

Quote(A spokesman for the Interior ministry in Gaza said it would catch whoever carried out last night's raid and that they would be jailed.)

Yeah right!

Cause they're a bunch of ****s, I hope they find whoever did this... and give em a little Middle Eastern Justice. I hate to be reactionary on this, but there is no excuse for these jackasses to do what they did!

Re: Gaza gunmen 'set fire to UN summer camp for children'

Extreme nut cases, attacking anything to do with the UN is no new thing. I think, they think of anybody receiving help from the UN as a traitor to Hamas(or whichever Islamic pack of nutters they belong to) and supporter of the west.

Re: Gaza gunmen 'set fire to UN summer camp for children'

You do realize that Hamas exercises almost dictatorial rule over Gaza and that very little happens in Gaza without either their knowledge and or complicity.

Whether their type of behaviour will change after President Obama has gifted them $400,000,000 of US Tax payer money is another story.
My thoughts are,- do not hold your breath.

Re: Gaza gunmen 'set fire to UN summer camp for children'

This is utterly disgusting and horrific.

Shame on these freedom fighters for hurting children.

What kind of nutjob bull**** is this type of thing?
A bunch of guys getting together one night - wasted on their egos - and then decide to "heey, dude, let's go burn some kid's summer camps down" - don't they have something better to do like, oh, I don't know, be productive citizens rather than be little ****s causing problems for everyone?

Because they want those children to grow up bitter and resentful of those hardships, and they want to be the only group that provides any relief from them. Basic principles of indoctrination.

I don't think it was an action they made out of boredom. It was an act of violent protesting against the UN and to prevent children from going to camps that they fear may teach them about the west and tolerance. You should see some of Palestinian media and the racist propaganda they put into TV shows.

No, this was obviously a MOSSAD team trying to make Hamas look bad. Is their video? Any proof? No. So it HAS to be Mossad!!!

Hamas dont need any help with looking bad.

I don't think it was an action they made out of boredom.

And, neither was the using women and children as human shields action out of boredom. I think, Hamas puts the 'cause' before the people.

I agree with you 100%. There have been horror stories where Hamas has killed fellow Palestinians who supported Fatah. I saw one video where they went to a wedding and shot people because they thought those Palestinians supported Fatah. Hamas is one of the sickest forms of evil. They claim to represent the people and do good for Palestinians, yet they do the opposite and abuse the Palestinians to make shots at Israel and the Jews.

The same with many terror and resistance groups around the world I'm afraid.
