Petraeus to Modify Afghanistan Rules of Engagement, Source Says

Except it did not. McCrystal designed the rules of engagement in Afghanistan.

Based on what? ROE are military wide McCrystal fine tuned them and took them to another level to appease the Afghans

Don has documented this. Total troops sent 39 k of 40 k requested, 30k of ours, and 9k from allies.

Of those 9k troops from allies, how many were combat troops in combat operations conducting COIN?

In other words, were they the right kind of troops?

mcchrystal was trying to win the hearts and minds of the afghans. the troops were following that strategy.

perhaps mcchrystal got overconfident

perhaps he wanted out because he sees his strategy is not working.

Maybe it was just that rolling stone employs ****ty reporters.

washingtonpost.com

Or, maybe McChrystal, a four star general, with 34 years in service, in command of his own theater of operations, whom obviously didn't get to where he's at by being stupid, knew exactly what he was doing?

I'm asking you to take a leap of faith and trust me, when I say that any person that that is able to pin a star on his collar, be it one, two, three, or four stars, didn't get there because he's just a nice guy. He got there, because he's got his **** together. That being the case, McChrystal knew exactly what he was doing when he sat down for that interview. It's why he showed up at the White House with his resignation in hand.

maybe they thought the reporter would be afraid to tell the truth, like most of the other corporate media reporters.

well, some people say kerry didn't deserve his medals.

And that has WHAT to do with what I said? Winning medals and earning rank are two very different things.

You ain't never been in the service, have you?

i have not been in the service. but i do know when someone is twisting the logic pretzel.

so it depends on the definition of rank?

here would be a better argument for you: you could say that the navy doesn't know what it is doing but the people who gave mcchrystal his rank do know what they are doing.

And you apparently didn't read the article. Again, this was not McChrystal "sitting down" with a reporter and sharing his thoughts. These were statements that were supposedly off the record and in some cases taken out of context or stretched to some degree.

The idea that McChrystal did this as some sort of a secret plan to get out of Afghanistan or to **** over Obama is ludicrous. No matter what goal you want to impute to him, there were a dozen better ways to go about it.

He has to be a troll.

I see. Then, how do you explain McCrystal's actions? It wasn't because Obama was playing ball with McChrystal. Or, are you accusing McChrystal of being a mad-man, or something? He is a treehuggin', Fox News hatin', Libbo, so that's not a stretch.

It's so rare in the military to bitch about ones supervisors...
