Obama vows to end homelessness in 10 years

If you want to exercise a right, it is up to -you- to provide the means to do so.

The state stands adamantly opposed to exercising certain rights, for example they throw out every pitfall they can think of to make it nearly impossible for the average citizen to own property without incurring a huge amount of debt and agreeing to pay exorbitant property taxes for the rest of their lives or for how ever long until they decide to transfer ownership of the property. Christ it's to the point where you can't cut down a tree on your own property without a permit let alone build your own home.

Any and all Federal and State lands which they have not used and are not using

Interesting idea, one that sounds somewhat reasonable on its face.

most if not all land currently "owned" by the Federal and State governments was acquired illegitimately

It was acquired by human conquest. Most if not all land currently "owned" by every nation wasn't theirs to begin with.

Shall we give it all back to Lucy?

Rothbard says: "It is not enough to call simply for defense of "the rights of private property"; there must be an adequate theory of justice in property rights, else any property that some State once decreed to be "private" must now be defended by libertarians, no matter how unjust the procedure or how mischievous its consequences."

In "Justice and Property Rights," he says:

"All existing property titles may be considered just under the homestead principle, provided a) that there may never be any property in people; (b) that the existing property owner did not himself steal the property; and particularly (c) that any identifiable owner (the original victim of theft or his heir) must be accorded his property" (in Justice and Property Rights)

People can help, churches can help, nonprofits can help, government can even do a tiny portion, but how exactly can I say that the homeless should not take primary responsibility? These avenues can not help everyone, and perhaps not even enough for them to not need to make any effort. If there is one thing in life that is true: you have to help yourself. You cannot depend on people, because even if we ignore that it is degrading, eroding of personal worth and so on, the person can get burned by trying to depend on others.

Your ideals are dream-like, not reality-based.

The reality is that I am living in the best country in the World but yet people wish to block helping out their fellow mankind. You may say I am a dreamer but I am not the only one and one day I hope people like you will join me in my thinking. Thanks John Lennon.

Really some are so heartless and the things I speak of can become a reality if more people were not so selfish and greedy. It disgust me how greedy people are and care more about getting their next Starbucks rather than helping to feed a family in need a meal:(

The responsibility for putting a roof over a bum's head, lies with the bum.

If someone else WANTS to help the bum, that's his choice in a free country. But don't try to impose your misconception that the housing of complete strangers is the responsibility of the US taxpayer, cuz it ain't.

Just your use of the word bum shows is proof I need not waste my time talking to the likes of you. Fairwell!

Show how living in the USA makes it my responsibility to provide other people the means to exercise their rights.

It is up to you to help your fellow man pursue the right to happiness. OK?

Yes we do, but not through government coersion.

Well what we are doing now is clearly not working so unless you got any better ideas? I damn sure say it is via our gov. How about we put it up to vote? I bet you the majority in this country would do the right thing and if not? Well then we are all screwed!

The reality is that I am living in the best country in the World but yet people wish to block helping out their fellow mankind.
This is a deliberate malcharaterization of the position presented. No one disagrees with the voluntary contribution to charity, and no one wants to stop it.
The issue under consideration here is the government forcing people to provide other people the means necessary to exercise their rights. This is am entirely different matter, and is nothing but involutary servitude.
That you have a right in no way means you are entitled to the means to exercise it.

Look, I am not a cold-hearted person, and I know that homelessness is a problem. But I have problems of my own. So, to the Obama administration, I say this - Not on MY dime.

Article is here.

Hows all that hope and change workin for ya?

Give hand ups not hand outs. Oh and rather than blame us why don't you blame the highschool dropouts who decided to have 6 kids before they were 30. I feel sorry for the kids but the parents are the reason why they invented chemical sterilization. De-evolution.

To the OP, yes it will be on YOUR dime! (and mine and everyone else who pays taxes...tough titty)
This isn't a commitment to just homelessness, it is child and family homelessness and our Vets. Children can not protect themselves from this type of situation.
American children should not be sleeping in the streets and clearly private agencies are not enough. And many times those private agencies, get some sort of federal funding.

And our US Vets, they actually could be helped through mental health services. We're not taking care of them the way they need to be taken care of. Our military is constantly expanding. We have over 700 military bases all over the world. Not to mention the billions we give away in aid to people who would really rather see us dead than look at us. But we can't even take care of our vets when they come home?? Maybe its time to cut back on some of our conquests and take care of our people who need it.

But this is not just a mental issue or substance abuse issue either, family homelessness jumped 7% in 2008-2009. And overall it went up 30% from 2007-2009. (from the article)

We really should get rid of all the hippies you know.

Government is not competent at "social engineering." We experienced this with the Great Society, where the hopes and dreams of liberal progress brought with it disastrous results, mixed results, and minor benefits-all at the dismay of social scientists who believed much was possible, if only they were given the keys to the kingdom (which they had been to a degree never-before-seen).

Obama must not be well schooled in the history of similar government programs that totally failed.

Failures at life shouldn't be reproducing, social darwinism in action. ;) Here's a thought, maybe the state should stop outlawing apprenticeship at full time jobs so our countries children can actually learn a trade rather than continuing to waste tax payer dollars on the failed education system which spends billions to teach nothing.

American children should not be sleeping in the streets

Then children should be afforded the right to run away and not have to worry about the state returning them back to their failures of parents or sticking them into a state institution until they are 18.

and clearly private agencies are not enough.

How do we know that? Maybe people would give even more than they do if they weren't being robbed by the state. The U.S. already gives the most of any country in charitable donations and that's with the giant racketeering scheme employed by the state. But maybe you think that spending 2/3 of a dollar to collect a dollar is an efficient means of aiding the poor.

The military should be dissolved and replaced with Private Defense Agencies.

Thanks to the Federal Reserve and state intervention into the home loans and mortgage industry.

This is not an effective response to my asking you to show how living in the USA makes it my responsibility to provide other people the means to exercise their rights.
Try again, and try to bring some subtance in your response.

The only "real" solution that would end Homelessness would be the Final One, i.e. Kill Them All. Need I say I do not favor that?

Refrain from telling me how to post.

Why do you wish for people to starve and be homeless?

Which programs are these, that "Totally failed"?
Well, how about the failed War on Drugs? You’d think the Prohibition would have taught the state a lesson but, I am sure the state actually enjoys being doomed to repeat history. It is well known that this program is a failure but, the state will keep spending more and more money and creating more and more bureaucracy and stuff more and more people into prison and take away more and more of our freedom. Prohibition creates a violent black market of criminal gangs that endanger the people and bring more corruption into the state (police, politicians, etc). The black market also brings more dangerous product. It also creates a prison state; oh I could type a paper but, I am tired.

If you wont respond in a manner that actually addresses the isue put to you, then, through your contined, deliberate avoidance of said issue, all I can do is accept your concession of the point.
So it shall be writte, so it shall be done.

What that you dismiss everything I say? That proves nothing but you are a heartless fool that does not want to solve this problem.

And that is when it is done!

I have just had a horrible thought that I know how he can accomplish that.
In much the same way that the Russians did after the revolution had succeeded, they nationalized all buildings, all land throughout Russia, then housed the population on a family basis in rooms of houses of the wealthy so in effect with a large house with say 10 bedrooms, they allotted a family for each bedroom.
After which they built what are now called 'Stalin Apartments' where everyone was allotted at least a bed.
Naturally they excluded the houses of those like Pelosi, Biden, Gore, etc etc as these and other important folk are essential to running the new happier and contented America.
