Etheridge caught in on-camera confrontation

Yes you labeled the Congressman and I quote "the intended victim".

I meant that in the 'gotcha' video connotation of the word. Think candid camera. But I think you already knew that and were just trying to be cute.

Jesus, where do I start...

The problem with the internet is this: When some no-talent hack writes a screenplay or a book and posts it on the internet, they get ignored because most of us know real authors and filmmakers have their work published and produced.... But Michele Michelle Malkin has a website. Any jagoff with a computer can start a blog. That doesn't make you a journalist.

Reporting the news takes practice. Not everybody can do it.

Now, if you have no desire to be objective -- don't call yourself a journalist. Because you're not.

Well, welcome to the new age. Average people can now blog, report, etc. to their heart's content. Just because you don't deem it as legitimate doesn't mean that it isn't. They have a right to ask him a question just as anyone would. They weren't blocking his way. They simply asked a question and he got in their face. He could have easily kept walking, but instead decided to attack them. Because of this, he deserves the criticism he is getting.

Well, it took a bunch of jagoffs to "discover" that Dan Rather and company had forged a document in Microsoft Word and tried to pass it as authentic.

Your ideal "journalists" are so in bed with you and yourn that objectivity is a inconvenient nuisanace to be ignored at every turn.

Missing the point.

But the real journalists had to check the aspiring journalists work before it went on the air.

With Joe's Blog, that doesn't happen.

I wish we'd do away with these political apologies altogether. If you said, or did it, then own it and take the heat. Save us with your "I'm sorry I got caught" meaningless diatribes.

Celebrities do the same exact thing. There's not a single ounce of sincerity in it. Some PR person wrote it up and posted it. If Etheridge were an upstanding and genuinely good person it wouldn't have happened in the first place.

And so do they.

I don't care what connotation it was in, the bottom line is that you have been trying to paint the Congressman as the victim since the begining. Let me know how the SA recruitment interview goes. Seig Heil.

And so do they.

For doing what? Engaging in paparazzi politics? A celebrity can get away with attacking a paparazzi person. They are also in the entertainment industry. I would like to think that a politician, being an elected official and all, would be held to a higher standard. He could have simply kept on walking and ignored them.

Don't let this get turned into an argument over media bias, as that helps obscure that what happened in this instance was not about partisanship, it was about basic human interaction.

The consensus of pretty much everyone in this thread is that the Congressman was flat out wrong to do what he did. If hazlnut wants to keep defending him, point out the flaws in that argument.

"Who are you?" asked Etheridge, grabbing one of the cameras and pointing it down -- a move more typically seen from Hollywood bodyguards than congressmen. The second camera rolled as Etheridge, irritated, held the wrist of the first cameraman, then pulled the student to his side and grabbed him in a hug.
Right Now - Who TMZ'd Rep. Bob Etheridge?

Well now we know what paper Hazlnut reads...

You spoke too soon Right.

So in other words you don't feel that the average citizen has the right to question their elected officials and not only that, but asking questions of your leaders is tantamount to assault and punishable by physical violence. I'm sure you would have made a good SA recruit. Seig Heil.

Again, when you paraphrase or put words in my mouth, strive for some semblance of accuracy.

I said, I ain't sayin' it's right, but I understand.

What do you understand exactly? That the average citizen doesn't have the right to ask their elected representatives questions?

Are you kidding? A well-written letter outlining the specifics of the interview and asking for no more than 5 minutes... Very likely.

You're making things up too.

No, they really don't work all that effectively. There's a limited amount of time the politicians will give to locals to begin with, since they know that elections are won on money, not on being intimate with the voting base.

If it's an issue they don't like, I don't care how damned eloquent the students are, they're not getting in.

I can't believe some people are defending this guy. I don't care what ideology you adhere to, both parties host people who are on a power trip and think their **** doesn't stink. Has anyone posted his office phone number? I'd love to organize a phone raid to let this guy know his political career is over.

Why, because he made two little partisan hacks wet their pants.

They'll live.

Bull****.

Our congressman appears at local high schools and lets the media dept. interview him.

They won't respond to people outside their district and shouldn't have to.

Write a letter. Make a phone call.

Don't run up to people on the street and shove a camera in their face.

Any jackass knows that.

Newsweek tried to bury the Lewinsky story and turned Drudge into a household name.

Joe the Plumber had to do more defending than Obama, for asking a simple question and letting Obama ramble to the point he revealed his true plans. No Lib journalist managed that... then they jumped Joe for doing their work.

Two kids asked a Congressman a polite yet perfectly good question. One the press should ask every democrat.
He acted unbecoming of a representative of the US House. He acted like a thug.
Period.

I know, what kind of jackass would just follow people around all day, every day, videotaping everything they do in order to gain a political advantage?

Allen Quip Provokes Outrage, Apology - washingtonpost.com

I bet you fervently defended George Allen when that whole incident happened, right?

Who's George Allen?

You guys crack me up, you had to dig all the way back to 2006, to something a GOP said or did and that's evidence of what exactly.... I didn't respond to an event I knew nothing about. Congrats.

Too much.

What in sam hell is going on here?

Hazlnut, there is no way you can defend what the congressmen did. Two snotty nosed brats came up to him, yeah so what? Doesn't give him Carte Blanche to do what he did, it's idiotic. I'm annoyed by every homeless person that comes up to me, asks me for change, and when I don't have it they tell me to go **** myself instead of god bless, doesn't mean I grab em in anyway way and say "who are you?".

What the congressmen did was idiotic beyond belief, He should know better, come on guys, this is pretty much dead and gone, let the police decide if any wrongdoing has been done here.
