And yet it was lost on a vote in a liberal state.
CA liberal? That is to funny considering Reagan was the Gov. there.

I spent some time in Iceland. I found it a beautifuly place but a pagan country, and it's people were very immoral. Somehow, this newest abomination doesn't surprise me. Since there is now an active volcano going on., I wouldn't be surprised if the whole island goes up in smoake, soon.

I lived there, it is in no way a conservative state. Has not been for a long time bud.
California isn't a liberal state?
Both of you, demographics fail.
SoCal tends to be somewhat more liberal but you have to remember that Orange County is an EXTREMELY conservative area and is the seat of some of the powerhouses of the Religious Right AND it gave us the American Independent Party. NorCal is generally more conservative with the exception being Sacramento.
Other than LA and Sacramento, California is actually pretty conservative. Our governors and elected officials are usually Republicans and we had a bitter slug-fest over gay marriage, something that people expected to pass here by a landslide.
California is moderately liberal at best. Yeah areas like LA, SanFran, and Sacramento are extremely liberal, and those are the ones we always hear about, but California is the most populated state in the country. There are millions of people in that state who don't live in those areas. They just don't get noticed as much. The exception being when they mobilized to revoke gay marriage in 2008. I wouldn't call that liberal at all.
LOL Please. I just gave you the numbers. How can you sit there any deny it?
Gay marriage is not a party issue. If it was it wouldn't be 0-31 by voters in this country.
Of the 17,304,091 California voters registered for the November 4, 2008 general election,
* 44.4% were Democrats,
* 31.3% were Republicans,
* 4.4% were affiliated with other political parties, and
* 19.9% were ("Decline to State") voters.[17]
Islam is a religion. Israel and the US are nations. Do you really not understand the difference?
So then liberals do not support Palestinians over Israel?Where did you read this?
As a liberal, I tolerate Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, etc. What I do not tolerate is the "my religion is better than yours" crap, which seems to be rampant nowadays. You wanna be a Muslim? Great! Or maybe Christianity is your thing? Fantastic! Stop twisting support for Islam equating to hatred of Christianity, and vice-versa.
Exactly, you just said it yourself. It isn't a party issue. I'm not denying it at all, CA can be mostly Democratic, but still be against gay marriage because there are plenty of conservative Democrats.
If its not a party issue you can't break it down by party now can you?
And what exactly are you basing this on?9th Circuit Court. Most liberal court in America
And that has...what to do with this?and most overturned.
Which DOESNT reflect how people vote. California has a system of initiatives and referendum that means we can over-ride our legislature and pass things ourselves if we want. I invite you to look at the history of these ballot initiatives and see the political bent they tend to take.Both chambers of the California legislature have been dominated by the Democratic Party since 1970 except from 1995 to 1996, when the Republican Party briefly held a majority in the lower chamber.
Our incumbents have been re-elected, so what?There hasn't been a republican senator from California for almost 20 years. (1991)
Why look, here it comes again!California majority by county in 2008
Democrats 43%
Republicans 15%

Among all voters in California, 45% are registered as Democrats and 31% as Republicans. Voters who “decline to state” a party are the third-largest group overall, at 20%.
State demographics pose potential problems for Republicans| PolitiCal | Los Angeles Times
There goes your demographic BS claim.

Other than LA and Sacramento (and some would argue, San Diego), California is actually pretty conservative. Our governors and elected officials are usually Republicans and we had a bitter slug-fest over gay marriage, something that people expected to pass here by a landslide.
Our major population centers tend to be more liberal (as they do in every state in the country) and thus the more groundbreaking political work comes out of a more progressive mindset, but to say that California itself is liberal is horribly wrong.
I've lived here my entire life, there are plenty of righties drifting around
So then liberals do not support Palestinians over Israel?
Why are people so arrogant they think they know more than people who actually LIVE in the state?
And what exactly are you basing this on?

In the 2008 elections, 52% of the voters in California voted for Barack Obama while 45% voted for McCain with about 3% going to third party candidates.
Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives
Furthermore, Proposition 8 drew a slim 52% for Yes and 47% for No.

These are two things that should have been LANDSLIDE issues in a supposedly liberal paradise like California.
It doesn't matter what people register as, it's HOW they vote that reveals an area's true political leanings. Also, California allows the Democrat and Republican parties to decide if they want "Decline To State" voters (AKA "Non-Partisan") to be allowed to cross-over to one party or the other during primaries, however that will change in 2011. Polisci 101, kid.
California is NOT as liberal as people like to think it is, we're divided fairly evenly.
So then liberals do not support Palestinians over Israel?
:rofl I like that!!!Iceland elects a lesbian and then BAM, their economy implodes. Coincidence? I think not. :lol:
The fact that the country has a state church isn't as important as the make up of that church and the devoutness of the citizens. From what sources I've seen, only 10% of the population attends church at least once per month. Now that may not necessarily reflect the devoutness, but it does give us a clue.
I, too, spent time in Iceland, and noticed the rampant paganism. Fortunately Zeus doesn't seem to have that much of a problem with gay marriage, which is a good thing, because that dude can hurl lightning bolts.
It's important when the religious philosophy of the church can be influenced by the government.
