'North Korean torpedo' sank South's navy ship - report

Why do you think it would be fought conventionally? Even if it started that way, do you think the North Koreans would refrain from using their nuclear weapons?

I doubt if they have that many or the delivery capability to hit the US. If they did launch even once they would be instantly turned into glass.

It's time to get tough with the little bastard. I think he is bluffing.

China would be pooping bricks but they would do nothing because we owe them too much money.

You strike at North Koreas military facilities and cripple them from launching anything towards Seoul. All I know is that diplomacy isn't going to work.

North Korea has something like 9,000 artillery tubes pointed at Seoul. A prof who does this type of thing for a living once told me that within the first 15 minutes of a conflict, they would kill approx. 1m civilians in the city.

Compared to the second world war, that a small number.

Once they launched those rockets (probably most of them would fail) north korea would be toast.

compared to the second anglo-boer war, thats a lot:mrgreen:

to put it simply, the avenging the lives of 49 soldiers is not worth the lives of 1 million civilians

And you think that this is worth starting another world war over?

How is it not feasible? Maybe they could set up some sort of missile defense shield. All I know is that something must be done. Kim Jung Il is a crazy mass murderer near his death, and I honestly think he would do something crazy before he dies just to go out with a bang and be remembered for something.

I agree with you.

A similar question is to ask whether the allies would have stood up to Hitler before the war started if they knew he had nuclear bombs.

Nuclear weapons change everything. Kim Jung Il probably couldn't care less if Pyongyang gets nuked and the population dies, as long as he and his cronies survive. We in the west value life to much to not care if Seoul or Tokyo goes up in nuclear flames.

Oh no. I mean Tokyo. Don't think for a minute that the North Koreans will limit the scope of the war.

North Korea does not have the ability to ravage Tokyo in the way they could to Seoul. Sure, they could send some missiles that way, but only enough to cause potential terror in the Tokyo-Yokohama area and others. On the other hand, they could absolutely devestate Seoul.

They don't have the delivery systems ready yet to launch them at Japan much less at the United States...

This is where you underestimate the resolve of the PRC. They will NOT allow a US-supported ROK state march up to the Yalu River without a response in kind.

It is the Norths way of saying, look we need more aid.

And you know what?

US Politicians are just stupid enough to give that aid.

let em all starve

people who support a government like that deserve what they get

They don't have a choice!

Put you in a Gulag for 10 Minutes and I promise you, you will repent and worship the great Kim Jong Il.

chances are if North Korean looks to cause unrest, the PRC will squash it like a bug

Kim il douchebag would probably have a made in China garrote around his pencil neck

Me thinks you completely don't understand the motives of the PRC government in Beiping...

I am all ears

they sure don't want to stir up poop with the USA or Japan

bad for business

North Korea is their ugly stepchild

You have no clue, do you. Do you think they LIKE it? However, who has the guns? and who doesn't...

the army has guns

the army is made up of the sons and daughters of the general population

they obviously like the system they have

let em starve-that will cause another bastille day

They will absolutely NOT tolerate a U.S. friendly state with a treaty of alliance with the U.S. to run up to their border on the Yalu River. They most certainly will not allow it. This has been in their Chinese language propoganda for more than a generation.

If you are getting the food, you will like the system... You have no idea what kind of control over information regimes like the one in P'yongyang has...

*facepalm*

Brickwall. Fine, languish in your ignorance.

you aren't nearly smart enough to engage in such silly arrogance with me.

and its my opinion-as if one douchebag could hold an entire country hostage

he clearly has lots of support

I do. but ultimately people are at fault for allowing themselves to be enslaved

He has the support of the people who have the guns because they are the ones who have the food.

You obviously have very little notion of the complete control over the flow of information the government has in North Korea. Have you ever seen North Korean television? I couldn't understand a word of it, but simply the images were chilling.

I had a conversation with some people from the DPRK who crossed over illegally to get food to bring back across the Yalu to their families in and around the Sinuijiu area. The things they told me (though ethnic Korean Chinese translators in Dandong) were absolutely chilling...
