Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder announced his resignation Tuesday after admitting to an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office.

Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff."

Kudos to Mr. Souder. He was caught with a GIRL. No rentboys here. :2party::mrgreen:

On the other hand........................

Just who the hell does he think he is? A Democrat? LOL.

Finally.....

"As I leave public office, my plans are focused on repairing my marriage, earning back the trust of my family and my community and renewing my walk with my Lord," his statement reads.

This is for Democrats and Republicans both - Why is it that they always talk about walking with the Lord AFTER they get caught? Souder gets righteous. John Edwards got righteous. They ALL get righteous, and it is always after the fact. Is it about religion and getting right with God, or is it really about politics? They had better think twice. Once you are in Heaven, you don't run for office, so a little elbow rubbing with God, and a little name dropping of "God", just isn't going to work. LOL.

Another right wing hypocrite.. who would have thought.

but at least this hypocrite is not gay...

Was he one of those "family values" preachy Republicans? They seem to have a knack for the complete opposite.

Actually, he IS one of the "family values" guys.

I just had a thought - Since this was a female, is he going to hold a press conference and announce that he is not straight?

The one good thing that comes out of all of these hypocrites is that any time the GOP now tries to claim that they are the party of "Family Values"....they are laughed right out of the room.

Seriously, I think it's the hypocrisy that is most disturbing in cases like this. when they pretend to be holier than thou supporters of "family values" and are anything but that...

In some ways, had this guy not been like that I might say "Well, you know, it's none of my business."

Leave Governor James McGreevey out of this.

If you're going to cheat on your wife and screw teenage girls - for god's sake be a Democrat where they pat you on the back and tell you to "go get 'em!"

It once more depends on if they are a hypocrite or not. And certainly there are plenty of examples of Republicans doing these things and being excused by their fellows.

John Edwards, for instance, constantly talked about how important his family is to him, and paraded around his wife and spoke of family values. He was rightly criticized by Democrats for this and has no political future whatsoever.

Newt Gingrich, on the other hand, cheated on his wife and served her divorce papers while she was in a hospital bed recovering from serious surgery. He's one of the possible GOP Presidential candidates in 2012.

a republican sinned---congratulations

you'll never get his seat, tho, IN3

we, meanwhile, are gonna take lots and lots and lots of your offices, house, gubs, assemblies, senate

blumenthal's blunder may turn out to be decisive---if dems can't hold on to dead dodd's desk you're gonna have great difficulty keeping upper house

party on, progressives

seeya, souder

i think that's exactly why he WON'T run for president.

Please please PLEASE get dictionaries.

Hypocrisy is a double standard, NOT failing to live up to your own standards. And their own standards in this case - "don't cheat" - are the same as everyone else's, "family values" or not. And is anyone here actually anti-family? Because apparently, in order to cheat and not be a hypocrite, you have to hate families. This being according to people who don't know what the definition of "hypocrite" is.

Seems so obvious, but apparently some haven't figured this out yet.

I would imagine that any wanna be or actual Politician that wanted to lay claim to having Family values should be laughed at.

There are all of them equally venal.

It is all about power and wealth for self.

Oh come now, there is a difference between a preacher saying "family values" and some guy who doesn't say a word about it. It's a matter of degree, of course. Both of them are wrong for cheating, and both are hypocritical if they took oaths to be true but then cheated, but the degree of hypocrisy is not the same.

You shouldn't be pointing fingers at people, telling them how they should live, when you don't even abide by your own standards. THAT is the distinction.

Why? And what is "family values"? It could mean all sorts of things. Here we're talking about cheating on one's spouse. So if "family values" means staying true to your spouse, then basically *everyone* is pro-family values... and whether they say it or not doesn't matter. If you don't say a word to defend your own beliefs, it doesn't make you any better in the same situation.

No, because again, hypocrisy is a double standard, not failing to live up to one's standards. If the guy says, "cheating was justified in MY case", then he is a hypocrite. If he admits he was in the wrong, then he's not a hypocrite. And as for "telling them how they should live", none of these so-called hypocrites are ever known for preaching against adultery, so that's not even relevant.

I know, right...

Just once, one of these guys should get up and say:

I've come to realize that God is fake and morality is a meaningless human construct. We are all a chaotic random mess of carbon and water.

I therefore will commence a murder, rape, kill rampage while taking massive quantities of cocaine and heroine.

Stop me if you must, but the pleasure I experience before dying in a blaze of glory outside some cheap motel, will have more meaning and purpose than you can possibly understand.

Tell my kids I only really loved the smart, good-looking one with real potential.

So long and hail satan.

Sincerely,

The Honorable Douglas P. Wittinghammer, Esq.

At least Democrats don't pretend to be something that they clearly are not.

Wow...with spin like that you should be the chairman of the GOP to help them restore their image.

"See....we in the Republican party aren't hypocrites because we say one thing and do another. Just.....do as we say, not as we do!". :2funny:

But that isn't what we're talking about, that's not what I was referring to in the post you responded to, and you're obviously trying to find any way you can to defend this guy or something.

Come on, let's be honest here; stop trying to rewrite the situation to fit your liking. This guy promoted abstinence -- and made a video about it with his mistress. Seriously. He preached to everyone what their morals should be, worked to get government money to support his plans, and made it a core part of his image.

That is WAY different from every other married person in the world, a big percentage of whom have at one time or another cheated. Way different, and you know it.

But he DID, that's the point. Or are you telling me that while he was waving the Bible around, telling everyone that homosexuality and sex without marriage was evil, he added a footnote somewhere saying "Oh, but adultery is fine"? His entire image was of the Christian moral crusader.

you can't make this stuff up

here is a video of souder and his mistress advocating abstinence
