Blumenthal's words on Vietnam Service differ from History

"I wore the uniform in Vietnam and many came back & to all kinds of disrespect. Whatever we think of war, we owe the men and women of the armed forces our unconditional support."

Critics weigh Blumenthal's words - StamfordAdvocate

"We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam," Blumenthal was quoted as saying. "And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support."

Make an excuse for this one. :2wave:

unlike that NYT story i have provided you with the complete video, in which Blumenthal prefaces his remarks by noting he was a reservist who did not serve in vietnam
i do recognize he was careless in the way he did not consistently make that distinction

Bottom line is he lied about serving in Vietnam on more than one occasion. Now it's time for the partisan hacks on the left to come out of the woodwork to create the illusion that he wasn't really lying when he lied.

As was pointed out by the conservatives in regards to some on the left saying Bush lied about Iraq, for it to be a lie you would have to prove he INTENTIONALLY did not just misspeak and had the intention of fabricating.

Amazing.... simply amazing. :lamo

So your defense of Blumenthal is that he forgot he was never in Vietnam, and so he simply misspoke when he said that he was? Not sure how someone could forget, or not even know they never served in a war when they claimed they did.

Yes, I know you bow before me, but you don't have to let everyone know about it Rev. It might destroy your image.

So, you accept that he wasn't lying?

You want to buy my bridge that connects manhattan to brooklyn? :lamo

He did serve during the vietnam era, that was what he was referring to.

Again, shall we list all the Bush misspeaks and the fact he did not seek to correct them?

Hey you accepted many of the Bush misspeaks, so I guess you already bought the bridge from someone else.

Uhm I have shown on two occasions where he says he served "in Vietnam"....

What part of "in" is giving you intellectual pause? :lamo

I dunno why you would do that, unless you are trying to avoid the topic at hand to ramble on about a former president.

No he wasn't. He specifically talked about serving in Vietnam, and when he returned from Vietnam. He lied.

Again, shall we list all the Bush misspeaks and the fact he did not seek to correct them?

What does Bush have to do with Blumenthal lying about his service? Oh yeah, nothing at all.

Oh boy, another bush brain.....

Oh boy, another CONSERVATIVE (not libertarian despite your lies) that gives a pass to someone with an R in front of their name, but tries partisan crap to someone with a D in front of their name.

No, he misspoke about it. Lied would require intentionally fabricating it, which there is no proof of.

Oh, I don't know, stockpiles of WMDs come to mind.

I don't know what this tantrum your throwing is over. But the only guy here who claimed to have gone to war and didn't was Blumenthal, your mouth foaming personal attacks simply make you look foolish given the obvious suspension of belief a partisan hack like yourself would have to have to believe this was a simple mistake....

I am embarrassed for you.

So Blumenthal forgot he never served in Vietnam? Go with that one, it's the funniest.

Oh, I don't know, stockpiles of WMDs come to mind.

Which has nothing to do with Blumenthal lying.

Hey you accepted many of the Bush misspeaks, so I guess you already bought the bridge from someone else.

And so on the flip side I take it you've never accused Bush of lying?

Also, care to poitn out a specific misspeak you're talking about where it seems clear he's intending to say something that is 100% not true? You asked if we should list them, sure...lets see the ones you're talking about.

Again, that was a misspeak by him, but then your conservative partisan hack comments show through brightly.

I'm not embarrassed for you, I am ashamed of you.

How does it make me a partisan hack to call out a fake war vet? One who is living off the honor of others. You are the one defending him simply due to his "D" next to his name...

Hack, is your badge, wear it proudly.

BTW Both times? :lamo

When we returned from Vietnam, I remember the taunts, the verbal and even physical abuse we encountered,

This one too?

that's 3. :lamo

I'm not embarrassed for you, I am ashamed of you.

Your the one putting politics over your own service.... If there is any shame, its you and blumenthal....

I'm sorry, let me use the correct phrases.

Blumenthal mislead, ignored key evidence, and overstated his time in Vietnam

unlike that NYT story i have provided you with the complete video, in which Blumenthal prefaces his remarks by noting he was a reservist who did not serve in vietnam
i do recognize he was careless in the way he did not consistently make that distinction

And yet you continually blind yourself to the fact that this is not about one particular speech. This is about a series of incidents in which he made the same claims, from a guy who has obviously not had a problem lying about his other accomplishments, e.g. Captain of the Harvard Swim Team.

As was pointed out by the conservatives in regards to some on the left saying Bush lied about Iraq, for it to be a lie you would have to prove he INTENTIONALLY did not just misspeak and had the intention of fabricating.

Did you believe that then? Do you believe that now?

The support among Dems for this guy is eerily similar to Clinton-Lewinsky. Some will defend anything.

3 of the first 10 posts in this thread are liberals condemning him. More condemned him further in.
