Arab Americans across metro Detroit cheered as Rima Fakih of Dearborn was crowned Miss USA tonight in Las Vegas.

“This is unbelievable,” said Rami Haddad, 26 of Livonia, one of Fakih’s biggest supporters. “It’s a dream come true. I can’t express my feelings.”

Fakih, of Lebanese descent, is believed to be the first Arab American and Muslim to become Miss USA.

Do you have information about the number of fatwas issued against Americans and the number of Americans murdered post-fatwa?

Odds are that we will see no proof that this is a fact. Now, if she were painting the likeness of Muhammad as part of the talent contest, I might believe you. MIGHT. :mrgreen:

Not the same thing.

Miss USA is part of the Miss Universe pageant. I don't think there's a "talent" component, so if they say she's "well rounded" it means she has curves in all the right places.

To my understanding about a month ago a fatwa was issued for muslim women not to take part in such beauty contests. I don't know of a specific fatwa against Rima Fakih or her life... yet. (Stress - YET). There may well be one on the way but the ink is still a little wet.

Well, a fatwa is essentially a an edict, usually religious, and it does not necessarily mean under penalty of death. Pat Robertson issues them all the time, and also issues fatwas declaring that God has already meted out punishment to unbelievers - For instance, the 911 attacks. Which is why religious nuts are not confined only to Islam.
