Highland Park High School Tournament over Arizona immigration law

Hopefully they fire the idiot who made this decision and find a replacement who is more interested in doing her job than expressing her political views.

3 billion dollars a year.... Arizona taxpayer dollars spent on the illegals problem. 3 billion. That's a number that rises to the level of "political".

Schools are authoritarian.

true=to the students but not to the parents- and schools ought to spend more time teaching and less time grandstanding.

But the clowns who made that decision ought to be fired

Who are they punishing with this decision, Arizona or the students?

Actually, that's the federal government punishing taxpayers. They should leave it up to the States to control their own migration issues.

Why should Oregon have to pay for Arizona's mess?

Because Oregon has a bunch of stupid liberals running it?

Taxpayers.
My question should have been more specific. Impression was about school officials canceling the student’s planned tournament play scheduled for December in Arizona.
Question is amended to “Who are "school officials" trying to punish, Arizona or students?”

The parents are still able to go to Arizona if they wish. They can even take their children.

The whole point to going to Arizona was to play in a basketball tournament right? So on what team would they play if they just showed up? The school won't sponsor their trip now, so what team would they play for?

What?

Um, the girls team is not going now and some of the parents are ticked off that the school would rather play politics, then just play basketball.

So.....why would the parents just make a trip to Arizona without their kids basketball team? The whole point for the parents to go to Arizona would be to watch their kids play ball, as that was the sole intent of the trip in the 1st place.

So I really don't know what your point was.

Did you read what I was responding to?

Now the pro-illegals liars are now trying to keep kids from a Tournament because they do not like the fact Arizona does not tolerate illegal immigration.

Highland Park High School Cancels Trip To Arizona Tournament Over Immigration Law (POLL)
Suburban Highland Park High School is coming off its best season for girls basketball in 26 years. But a planned trip to Arizona for a tournament next season has been canceled by the school due to that state's controversial new immigration law.

School officials painted the decision as a matter of safety. The Chicago Tribune spoke with District 113 Assistant Superintendent Suzan Hebson about the decision:

"We would want to ensure that all of our students had the opportunity to be included and be safe and be able to enjoy the experience," Hebson said of the tournament, which will be played in December. "We wouldn't necessarily be able to guarantee that."

Asked if there are undocumented players on the team, or if anyone associated with the team is in the country illegally, Hebson said she did not know.

The school draws students from Highland Park as well as what WLS describes as "the heavily Hispanic suburb of Highwood." Fifteen percent of the school's population is Hispanic.

But parents complain that the school is unwisely making political hay of a sporting event that is entirely unrelated.

Yet more racist school administrators with their heads up their asses. I say ... it's time for those who made this call to be removed from their positions.

We

Are

Not

Pro

Illegal

Yet you are against a law that would actually DO SOMETHING to address the problem. If you are against a law that would do something about the problem, perhaps that means you support those creating the problem. Hence, the logical supposition that you are pro-illegal.

I guess if Arizona doesn't want to be treated like the old, fat, bigoted, white "uncle" in the "family" of states, it should stop acting like old, fat, bigoted, white "uncle." They are certainly entitled to be jerks if they please, however, the rest of us are also entitled not to do business with them.

Don't like it? Not our problem.

What is the problem with Arizona trying to enforce their border with Mexico? What is wrong with someone having to show a drivers licence when pulled over for a traffic stop? I have to show mine.....

I wish liberals would cease with the misrepresentation with things they disagree with that are perfectly legal, and proper for a state to implement.

Did I say I have a "problem with Arizona trying to enforce their border with Mexico"???

No.

Did I say there is something "wrong with someone having to show a drivers licence when pulled over for a traffic stop???

No.

Have fun dancing with your strawmen.

I wish "conservatives" would learn how to read and limit their comments to what is actually said.

Ok, that's fair enough. So let me ask, I get the impression that you are opposed to the Arizona law, if so, what is your objection to it?

It's not in Arizona's purview, it's a federal issue.

I also understand the real nature of dogwhistle wedge issues. This is nothing more than state sponsored bigotry couched in legalese claptrap.

BUT..

If Arizona wants to be seen as the leading edge for extremist bigotry, that's just fine. Let 'em. Just don't piss and moan when the rest of us kick 'em to the curb. We have every right to express our disgust for their knuckledragging hate politics and boycott them.

The Federal government has had decades to deal with this problem, and they have failed to do so. Allow me a question, where does the Federal government get their power? From the states? Or, do the states get their powers from what the Federal government decides they should have?

How so?

Again, How so? and would you be so kind as to answer my question in the previous post? It was....

Just don't piss and moan in November when folks, finally awake, energized and expressing disgust for an inept, out of control, ever expanding federal government, kick this administration to the curb.

A boycott I'd like to see: "**** YOU!" neatly printed in the "amount owed" box on about 20 million 1040 forms.

I'm pro-illegal. And I'm from Illinois.

Love the decision. Good on 'em.

Here's the thing, though. Because I'm an actual small government conservative I support Arizona's right to pass whatever laws/rules they deem fit. I also support areas on Illinois making the choice to boycott (more directly as well).

How many of the "conservatives" here are actually willing to take the same stance about a school in a state that has jack **** to do with them?

So are you saying that are are pro-small federal government, but pro HUGE state Government?

All over a law that was already in place to begin with. Wow.

Every Republican in the country should run on this issue. LOL

Great spin, shouldn't you state to be more accurate, "All over a law that was not enforced by the federal gov't?"

Every Republician should force the Fed's to get off their ass and enforce the laws that are on the books.

Bush didn't do it. Obama won't do it. Wow, give me a Federal Polititian with guts to do it. Come on Red states don't wait, pass the law.
