Men may still be left holding their peanuts at the ballpark while waiting for their dates in the ladies room, but a House panel on Wednesday was considering whether to rectify the disparity in wait times for the loo in federal buildings.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is holding hearings Wednesday on the "Potty Parity Act," a bill that seeks to address the unequal restroom facilities for women in federal buildings.

"A lot of times people, when I dealt with this bill, called it 'potty parity.' They made jokes," said Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., who proposed similar legislation as a state lawmaker that was enacted in the 1990s.

"The fact is, it's not a joke. Not only is it not a joke to women, it's not a joke to men who go with the women who have to wait while they're standing in line," he said. "It's also politically very popular. It's the right thing to do and it's catching up with the cultural lag in our society."

The bill would require any federal building constructed for public use to have an equal number of toilets in women's and men's restrooms.

There are buildings that don't have an equal number of women's and men's toilets? If anything, women's rooms tend to have more toilets, as some are taken out in the mens room and replaced with urinals.

Yes, Congress needs more restrooms for both genders. IMO, most of them are full of shxx. What a waste of their times. Can anyone say, Economy, Jobs, Border Security/Immigration, Unbalanced budget?

I read somewhere that women take, on average, 70 seconds longer in the bathroom than men, so there should actually be slightly more women's washrooms than men's.

But I would guess there are more men in federal buildings than women in the first place.

I believe they are calling for women's restrooms to have an equal number of toilets to men's toilets and urinals combined. I would think that would be rather difficult, just because urinals take up much less room then a toilet.

I think they should just install urinals in the women's restroom and a funnel attached to a hose. I guess that would solve the issue.

Look, if women would just quit going to the bathroom in groups this wouldn't happen. Men don't say "I'm going to the bathroom" and have four of their friends join them.
