Los Angeles Gun Buyback Program Takes In Over 2,000 Weapons

What do you think of the government buying back copies of The Communist Manifesto? Are you fine with that?
That's rather irrelevant considering it isnt going on and there are no plans for it.

The principle is the same. Would you be fine if the government did it?

I don't find this controversial given that it's voluntary as to whether or not you sell your gun.

It's MY MONEY going for this program. Maybe it should be a little more controversial for you.

**Shrug** Again, I'd like to see if it has any impact on gun-related or violent crime.

Also, it's impossible to know what crimes may have been prevented by these drives. I dont see anything wrong with them as long as they are voluntary.

If the money comes from private contributors you have a point

if they are tax dollars then they are a ridiculous waste of money

Your money goes into a lot of programs, some of which you even favor. So what?

Do you have any other reason?

You're basing that on what exactly?

Ya see, the police, those who have to actually deal with the inevitable outcome of the gunshow loophole and out-of-state guns flooding into densely populate areas... They support it. The big city police, mayors, etc, support stricter enforcement of gun regs.

So, unless you have something, some relevant knowledge and/or experience the make your opinion on gun control issues in Los Angeles valid; unless you're a resident here in L.A. and really understand the nature of the problem in big (real) cities, I suggest you worry about gun control in your state and we'll continue to fingerprint everyone who buys ammo in California.

yeah of course big city police support it-they are butt kissing the liberal dem politicians who hold their leashes They can pretend they are doing something so they can get the public off their backs.

I deal with street cops constantly. Very few of them have any use for the gun control schemes of the REMFS kissing up to the mayors etc

Its a waste of time
It has no useful purpose
It deludes people into thinking something effective has been done

My money is being used for a program that does nothing and demonizes one of my rights. Of course I'm going to be against it. If a private company wants to do it, I'll call it stupid, but I can't put a reasonable argument for it to end.

It doesn't demonize your rights. No rights are being infringed. People are voluntarily giving up their guns. I can accept if it's controversial, but it's not infringement. It's the choice of gun owners to do this.

But it's not my choice to pay them.

I know that... but you still haven't really explained why it's not worth it to pay.

Would you be okay if your money was being taken from you in order for the government to buy Bibles from people because the government didn't like them? You would be perfectly fine with that? Or if you're an atheist, if copies of the God Delusion were being bought by the government?

I know that... but you still haven't really explained why it's not worth it to pay.

Because it doesn't accomplish anything of worth. It's just a stupid publicity stunt.
