BOSTON—The Boston City Council approved a resolution Wednesday that urges the city to curtail economic ties with Arizona by pulling investments, ending city contracts and halting purchasing agreements to protest the state's recently passed immigration law.

The resolution, passed by a voice vote, also asks city employees not to travel to Arizona for city business.

"We're asking that the people's money, the people of the city of Boston ... that their money (not) be used to support something like this," said Councilor Felix G. Arroyo, who co-wrote the resolution with City Council President Michael Ross.

Time to boycott Boston? I hate to say it because I am a native New Englander and love the city, but this is just stupid and misguided. Boston is on the side of the illegal immigrants!

Well you're talking about their voter base or future voter base here... they're going to defend it and the hell with the Laws. These are "in the bag" Democrat voters we're talking about here.

Wait 'til few thousand Bastin union hands lose their jobs because of the boycott and see what happens.

Not far from the city in Mass that banned Christmas lights

Those politicians are beyond hope.

I guess thats why my family left that state 340 years ago ;)

Why shouldn't Boston be able to do what they want in this case?

Liberals: Want everything for free as long as someone else pays for it.

They can. And they reserve the right to be complete morons.

And that includes the lying newspaper:

, which requires police to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally

Another lie by the liberal media. They fail to mention the police have to be engaged in a lawful action that has nothing to do with immigration before they can ascertain legal status.

Of course, this DOES come from the state that was home to the famously intolerant Puritans... Great history the Bay State has...

I have my doubts that all this posturing against AZ will affect their economy much.....

All three of Boston's teams just lost. Bad karma for passing this stupid, pro-illegal resolution?

No one sucks harder than the Rangers.

At least you guys have been to and won the big show.

I am a Boston fan (Bruins are a long-suffering lot, BTW) -- but this resolution is just crappy. Boston has no business supporting illegals and their liberal rag simply lies about the content of the law... what do you expect from
M%#sholes...

That is their right. However, imo the states, cities that are doing this are setting an example for all of us to follow. Don't like the way Boston votes on "issue a", call for a boycott. Don't like what SF is doing, boycott. So no more State rights, lets do everything on a national level, not.

A lot has been said by cities and other States that AZ is wrong. Yet, I hear nothing from them about how they can help AZ or the Feds in dealing with this issue. Wonder why that is.

I only have the power of one. But SF, Boston, Colorado, etc. you are off my books for any visits. Not because you voiced your objection, but because you have not voiced a solution or demanded the Feds do something. So much for thinking about the "United" States.

It will end with game 5

Boston has no idea what is going on in Arizona. Arizona has the right to enforce laws. I am a big beleiver in federalism. Now, it also seems that they would like to get out of existing contracts. I don't know if there are opt out clauses in those contracts, but if not, trying to get out of them could land the city in legal hot water.

Besides, doesn't Boston have enough problems to deal with rather than butting their noses into Arizona's issues? Boston has tried to do this with New Hampshire (my native state) for decades -- sick of it...

Hopefully, I just want Philly out of the tournament!

I dont give a **** about either of them, let them all die, and burn very painfully.

I don't wish ill on either of these political entities. I just wish Boston would address its own rather significant problems and leave New Hampshire, Arizona and other states to sort out theirs...

This is something I love about this forum. You post something that you hate, most others agree, and I just find myself swelling with statriotic pride. I'm a Bostonian, born and raised, and I understand why this probably pisses a lot of people off, but since I already found the Arizona law to be racist and a danger to civil liberties this just makes me feel satisfied that my local government is representative of my views and not only that, has the guts to share those views with the rest of the country even if many will hate it.

Well, it was the birthplace of America, so you could say that. Also, you won't find many Puritans walking through Boston these days.

I wouldn't use that term, many of us take it as a compliment. I know I do.

Well, Boston is the capital of New England. I don't know specifically what you're talking about but it was propably for New Hampshire's own good. Besides, you owe us. Your economy is based on Massholes driving up to buy fireworks on the 4th and duty-free liquor every day of the year.

Basically: "God bless Bostonia, my home sweeeeeet hoooooome"

What makes it racist and a danger to civil liberties?

Well, it was the birthplace of America, so you could say that. Also, you won't find many Puritans walking through Boston these days.

Actually, Virginia was the first English colony in North America.

Fine, take it as a compliment ... and take your garbage out with you next time you visit New Hampshire...

Typical Bostonian hubris. I suppose that explains why so many people from Mass have moved to NH in recent years -- unfortunately bringing failed MA politics to NH in the process...

What makes it racist and a danger to civil liberties?

It encourages and fosters racial profiling and gives police officers unprecedented rights to establish the legality of an individual.

Indeed it was, but that doesn't make me wrong.

Fine, take it as a compliment ... and take your garbage out with you next time you visit New Hampshire...

I prefer Vermont.

Explain to me how politics in Massachusetts (one of the richest states in the union with one of highest per capita GDPs, highest literacy rates, best public education system, and home to the greatest universities in the country and some of the greatest in the world) are failed.

And, I am actually aware of the "hubris" I am expressing, don't worry. I just happen to be very proud of my city and my state. I imagine it's rather annoying and for that I apoligize, but I'm not likely to stop.
