Students Wearing American Flag Shirts Sent Home

The good people of Mexico haven't had any slurs made against them...just the subhuman migratory herds that wind up here with no regard for our laws.

I never get how people are so blind to marketing sometimes. Serioulsy if you are over say 24, you know there was no "cinco de mayo" growing up.

Hell I lived in NM for 4 years in the 90's and didn't hear about it for at least 2 of em

reverend, my point was that I'll proudly wear patriotic colors regardless of what holiday it is, US based or not, and I will not remove them just because someone might be "offended" by it.

First I ever heard of Cinco De Mayo was in Alaska because I worked at a Mexican restaurant on the side.

I seriously came to Southern California thinking Cinco was gonna be a blast down here. I got offered to be driven to taco bell and laughed at for mentioning it.

Oh...and a pinata left in my chair the next day.

I'm making an honest attempt to have a discussion with you. I've read your article and a couple others looking for the answer. The boys and their parents say very little. "showing their pride in the their nation..." is an answer anyone carrying/wearing the flag could give. And we agree that is not always the case.

So, in their own words, what statement were they trying to make by coordinating their dress on that day? That's what I'm asking.

What more do you require? That's all I need.

Is it possible? Answer that. It is possible that these boys resent some of the Mexican-American students at their school for some reason? Then speculating on their motives in not dishonest at all.

Two of em, are half-mexican.

But speculate away...

I agree with the school districts position. Sending them home was overzealous and a bad call on the part of the principal.

Ahh a moment of clarity. Kudos to you.

Now, we're getting somewhere. And, in fairness, like me you are just speculating as to their motives. If their answer is they just 'chose to represent the USA', they I would ask: Why on that day? What is it about Cinco de Mayo and/or how the Mexican-American student celebrate their heritage that compelled you to represent the USA?

I listened to what they said, (there are interviews on youtube) what thier parents said, and drew a conclusion based on evidence...

How does me wearing an American flag impede on your ability to corona's "mexican heritage day"?

Oh I know. I'm just a stickler for details.

I'd like to hear in their own words why they chose to coordinate their dress on that specific day. What specific message were they wanting to communicate to the Mexican-American students?

One of the mothers did state that her son was "half-latino", but she did not elaborate. Do you have links with more info?

As did I.

Both the students and their parents seem to think simply claiming patriotism gets them a pass.

If the boys would have the balls to admit they were trying to press some buttons or if they would admit they were spurned by some hispanic girls or their father's business is hurting because a competitor is hiring illegals... something, anything...

If they would just come clean and tell us what's really on their minds, I'd have more respect for them.

But the babe in the woods routine "what, what... I'm proud to be an American, is that a crime?"... I'm not sure they really understand what it means to be an American. It's more than a t-shirt and a bandanna, that's for damn sure.

they are proud to be ugly Americans

This is sick, this principle should be fired, and the chicanos who are all but hurt about Americans wearing the American flag should STFU and get a life or repatriate to that dump of a country they came from.

"No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations."
Flag t-shirts violate the flag code and are disrespectful to the flag.

You do know both actually do violate the Flag code don't you? Wearing a stinky flag T-shirt is disrespectful and in bad taste. And it's even worse to use the flag t shirt to make a political statement. The license plate is not making a political statement. It's just proclaiming made in the USA.. You and t shirt wearers both fail and are a disgrace to the flag.

Wearing a shirt with the image of the American Flag isn't necessarily disrespectful. Boy scouts, police officers, and the military all do it. That part of the flag code refers to taking an actual flag (like off of a flagpole) and fashioning that into clothing.

Really? Was I a disgrace when I was being shot at for my country? Was I a disgrace when I gave up 8 years of my life serving my country in harms way for much of that time.

Tell me, how much of a "disgrace" do you think I am?

you got owned with your complaining about flag t-shirts while having that license plate for an avatar, instead of manning up, you want to call me a disgrace? Face it, the whole argument is a red herring. These kids proudly displayed thier countries colors, JUST LIKE YOU, and you are suggesting flag code is a legitimate argument and they and I are a disgrace?

Sorry, I didn't know. Tell me about your experiences being shot at?

Wearing a 5 dollar t-shirt with the flag on it to stir the pot is not proudly displaying our colors. Now a USA-1 license plate on an American Built Corvette is. Can you see the difference?

Not sure about that.

I do remember a time when wearing the flag image except as a patch was disrespectful of the flag but times have changed. Now they have t-shirts, pants ....even flag underwear.

I don't need one on my vette.

But no, there is no difference.

USAF, multiple operations. 1990-1998

And you were shot at? Honestly? I have found that on these anonymous forums many people exaggerate their military experiences.
If you really do have combat experience then I salute you.
