(CNN) - Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.

Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.

The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

I know, I know, look at his name. He must be a Mexican. We must demand that he either show us his papers, or we must deport him to where he came from.... What part of Mexico is Illinois in?

Article is here.

To bad the article left out why he was arrested.

I checked a few news sources. One did say that the group was planning to be arrested. No article said on what charges.

IMO, the demonstrations would be a prime time for ICE to step in.

Chicago congressman arrested at D.C. rally - Chicago Breaking News
Chicago U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez made good on his pledge to get arrested at today's immigration rally outside the White House.

The congressman was among 35 activists detained for failing to move from a sidewalk outside the White House.

"They were asked to move by park police and they did not and they were asked again a couple more times, then they started arresting folks," said Douglas Rivlin, a Gutierrez spokesman.

Gutierrez was charged with a misdemeanor for "failure to obey a lawful order from a U.S. Park policeman" and was ordered to pay a small fine of between $50 and $100, Rivlin said.

This one made me laugh:

Rivlin described the arrests "as very peaceful" and said Gutierrez "was very excited" about being arrested.

Wonder if that "excitement" was visible, or if he had to pull down his shirt to hide it.

llinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D) is indeed Mexican and represents a predominantly Hispanic district. He is an activist and is supported by Chicago-machine politicians because he delivers the Hispanic vote. The machine reciprocated by making Chicago a sanctuary city.

Rep. Gutierrez was also demonstrating in Arizona this past week.

I think he's just into S&M and likes being pushed around by some big, manly, sexy cops. Kinky, but I have nothing against it.

What do you do for a living?
You ready to go pick crops in the fields all day?

White america is too damn fat to bend over and pick vegetables. Fact.

obama refuses to enforce federal law on the border, then throws stones at the PEOPLE OF ARIZONA for doing HIS job

why did he declare, in his typically ad libbed, undisciplined way, on air force one on thursday that leadership would NOT be coming forward with an immigration reform?

he proposes to do NOTHING about the border?

except play politics with it?

pathetic

what is obama's policy concerning the cartels?

he DOESN'T HAVE ONE?

just like iran

he's an ostrich, head buried

A) I'm currently unemployed and I do manual labor under the table so I can still collect an unemployment check.

B) It's not just crop picking, it's everything from trade jobs to unskilled manual labor. And not only do they come in and fill up those positions but they undercut pay and drive down wages. The whole "jobs Americans won't do" line may have worked when there was 3% unemployment and the housing sector was thriving and manual labor jobs were in high supply but that argument is ****ing bull**** today.

How are they any different than you? You are both doing illegal activities. You are collecting unemployment while working under the table.
By working under the table the boss is able to get away with keeping the wages down by not paying Federal tax, State and local tax, and social security.

Am still not convinced you are going to see herds of overweight white Americans how there picking lettuce any time soon. No, they will try welfare or some trumped up disability pay.

The differance is he is legally in American. The "illegals are not", and if they take money under the table the illegals are breaking another law.

I don't condone collecting unemployment and taking money under the table.

I be;ieve that this prohibition the collecting of unemployment and taking money under the table must be applied to all legal, illegal, and space aliens.

llinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D) is indeed Mexican...

Correction, Luis Guiterrez was born in Chicago. He is an American of Mexican descent. This is a large, unsubtle difference.

Is it just me, or is getting arrested not just stupid, but overall counterproductive to pushing his agenda(which I don't agree with anyway)? I mean, if I was organizing a protest of immigration laws, I would emphasize being law abiding, as that is part of the message I would want to send.

I am proud that this man stood up against Washington in a peaceful manner. :) However, I am also saying we need to crack down on illegals just not what Arizona is doing.

The honest and fair person will admit that the illegal immigration problem began decades before Jan 20, 2009. Then there are the partisans who claim it started at one minute after noon on JAN 20, 2009.

Being a fair and balanced politically aware person I genuinely believe that President Obama could and should have done more to correct the problem he inherited but I have to laugh in the face of those partisans who make pathetic noise that the POTUS meets and greats the illegals on the American side of the Rio Grande river.

IMO, the problem is two fold. The illegals who are here. and the illegals that cross over into the US daily. First priority should be to control the borders.

OK so it is no real surprise that Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez is apparently of Mexican origin or that his family came from Mexico but our assumption is that he is a citizen of the United States since I do not believe that you can serve in Congress unless you ? So let’s place aside for now the “piss” poor decision of Rep. Gutierrez to be involved in a demonstration but what is his crime? Is it a crime to represent a predominantly Hispanic district? .To be an activist? To deliver the Hispanic votes. Now is there any proof that “The machine reciprocated by making Chicago a sanctuary city” ? If he did and they did we could have a federal law violated.

I agree that Rep. Gutierrez has every right to demonstrate under the Constitution and he has every right to be wrong yet I believe that it is undignified for a member on Congress to Demonstrate.

Totally agree with the fact that we need to stop the influx first and foremost. Prevention is the key. Yet we also need to cull out the illegals but not by violating the rights of Americans.

The question still remains: Why does the US have no desire to control its borders?
