BEIJING – China said Friday that a Chinese diplomat in the U.S. was beaten and injured by Houston police and urged an investigation to ensure diplomatic practices are not violated.
The U.S. State Department was taking the matter very seriously and findings of the investigation would be shared with China "as soon as appropriate," said Susan Stevenson, spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.
She referred further questions to Houston police, which did not immediately return calls seeking comment Friday morning.
Ouch. The Houston Police Department is well known for beating people who even look crosseyed at them, and there have been investigations in the past, one which was triggered after 2 Houston Police officers handcuffed a "Mexican", and then threw him into Buffalo Bayou while saying "Let's see if this wetback can swim". The "Mexican" drowned, and it turned out that he was a US citizen, after all.
So, the City of Houston gets yet another black eye, courtesy of the Police Department. You would think that, with such a brutal police department, the crime rate here would be way down, but instead, it is way up. Go figure.
