Anyone want to be that the 'Iraniacs' are trying to provoke us? Since those little dictators in the land of rugs have some form of nuclear material would POTUS BO allow our military to whack the pistachio heads with tactical nukes?

["-- An Iranian navy plane that approached a U.S. aircraft carrier last week was flying as low as 300 feet as it neared the USS Eisenhower, U.S. military officials said Wednesday."/QUOTE]

Adm. Gary Roughead, the top Navy officer, confirmed the April 21 incident. The Iranians were "not provocative or threatening. As long as they are professional and not threatening or reckless, it's international space," he said.

LOVE GTHIS OFFICER'S NAME !!

Let's see. An Iranian pilot is doing his duty, patrolling his country's border, and he spots a foreign intruder, a carrier thousands of miles from its home. He takes a closer look. Who's provoking who?

Our carrier was in international waters not in one of the Iranian ports. The Iranians can spot our ships with radar or from further away. Close approaches can are are at time a provocation.

This is just the usual games that nations play with borders. Doing flybys and interceptions is everyday behavior between two rival countries. While I personally consider the whole practice stupid and risky, its so common that hopefully nobody panics and starts shooting. I wish world leaders would stop treating the military as a way to overcompensate for other shortcomings.

The way I see it during the cold war when the USSR and the US did the interceptions and close fly bys and the testing of response and radar/detection systems it was two fairly equal rivals playing with each other. The Iranians are a stinking little mouse who is annoying a full grown Tiger.

What do you think the Russians would do to them?

The Iranians do it for the same reason you cry about it: they want to use the military to stroke their manly little egos. Iran's nuclear ambitions are actually of consequence, flying a plane around is irrelevant BS.

Pssh I've flown over an aircraft carrier in a Cessna. It's one thing to do it in a fast fighter with your own armament, try doing it in something defenseless and slow!

You were not challenged by the Swabies ? I ahve a problem with that.Hell even us Air Force types will not let you fly oever or near our runways without permission.

The USSR would have blasted them out of the sky, period.
