GOP senators block debate on finance bill

Sen. Ben Nelson, Nebraska Democrat, joined with Republicans to oppose Reid’s motion on the bill, citing concerns about the bill’s impact on car manufacturers in his state.
Seems random.

Snowe also said that Republicans have added need to hold out in unanimity against the bill to gain leverage in negotiations, in particular because they have not been assured by Reid that he will not block them from offering amendments to the bill during debate.
Just politics, nothing to see here.

Looks like they are just playing politics and will likely not oppose it forever?

“They don’t want a consumer protection agency at all, let’s be honest. We’ve tried to help people who have been taken to the cleaners … to give them some protection or the first time, to give them some protection. At this hour, to consider that too radical to people is stunning to me.” — Sen. Chris Dodd

For a second day in a row, Republicans have turned their backs on ordinary Americans interests. It is shameful.

Please name a few of those interests and quote the portions of the bill which empower those interests. I don't expect an exhaustive list, just a couple specific examples would be fine.

Somehow I thought one brave Republican would stand up for working people against the fat cats on Wall Street. How foolish was I? Not a single one? Incredible.

Instead there was finally a single Democrat that went with Republicans instead of rushing another bad bill down our throats.

and the American public continues to lose.

In which way does the public lose?

At least the public will know who sides with them and who sides with the Corporation.

So you would rather have this far from perfect bill rushed through Congress instead of improved upon?

platitudes...

what's IN the bill?

Maybe they blocked it because they disagree with the Dems? I'm sick of the Democrats falsely painting Republicans as the enemies of Americans because they don't support Democrat legislation. Obama's words regarding this were highly immature and arrogant. Here is a link describing the Dems bill. http://newsmax.com/Morris/Morris-CFPA-credit-lending/2010/04/27/id/357046

“A party that stands with Wall Street is a party that stands against families and fairness.” — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.)

Indeed. If the fat cats get regulated, the GOP and its collection of sellouts get no bribes.

This is why the GOP needs to be cleared of all owned, bought-off, or otherwise business influenced members.

For the record, the Dems need the same, however, the Dems generally do not vote against things that will help the poor.

You support wallstreet and you are the enemy of the common working-class American.

The Party of NO has no interest in "improving" the bill. If by "improving" the bill....you mean watering it down to satisfy the interests of their corporate buddies...I wouldn't call that an improvement.

We need REAL reform in this country...not another photo op that really doesn't accomplish anything and placates the corporate interests that continue to screw the American public.

The GOP has shown where their hearts and souls lie...and it isn't with the people of America.

Welcome to reality. Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to hold on to ther last bastions of corporate influence and greed. Hopefully the party of NO will fail yet again.

Both parties have drawn Treasury and Fed personnel from major financial institutions for many years. Your point?

to claim that the dems are somehow going to due whatever to big business that the populist elements of their party wants is complete pipedreams.

Its like the minions of the left thinking the uber rich elites of their party really want to help them crawl out of the cesspool of dependency and poverty. In reality, that is the LAST thing rich dems want

Seems a moot point next to the fact that it is the GOP who has blocked debate on the bill for now.
