Federal investigators have issued subpoenas to the National Republican Senatorial Committee for documents relating to Sen. John Ensign's (R-Nev.) tenure there, the committee confirmed Thursday.

The subpoenas, part of a widening investigation by federal authorities into Ensign, come at a bad time for Senate Republicans, who want to focus their energies on defeating Democrats' health care legislation.

"It is a distraction ... but there's not much more [Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)] can do," a senior GOP aide said, noting that the GOP leadership has no way to force Ensign out of office.

It is official. Subpoenas are now being issued in the John Ensign affair, where Ensign is accused of having an affair with a staffer, while using his office to steer business towards her family, and then offering hush money to keep the affair quiet, in violation of Federal laws.

While some of us will be glad to see Harry Reid defeated, we must not let that distract us from our desire to also see Ensign go. Douchebags are douchebags, and the letter after the name should never override ethics.

Do you think there will ever be as much effort put into getting to the bottom of "White House Offered Me Federal Job to Drop Out of Senate Primary"

Yea I know. No way.

Why is it the thrust of investigations is political and never based on the law?

FOXNews.com - Sestak: White House Offered Me Federal Job to Drop Out of Senate Primary

Rep. Joe Sestak , a Pennsylvania Democrat, says the White House dangled a federal job in front of him to convince him to drop his primary challenge against incumbent Arlen Specter, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday.

Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.

You have a good point, but this thread is about Ensign. Start any thread you want about crooked Democrats, and I will be happy to post there, and agree with you. But please don't try and derail this thread by turning it into a fight between hyperpartisans. Please stick to topic, and I will be more than happy to help you move a topic about corrupt Democrats, in it's own thread, along.

Fair enough?

But without the favored conservative tactic of "change the subject" or "you guys do it to," what is there left to discuss?

Well, that comment is most decidedly off topic.

Personally, I can't stomach crooks, especially ones elected to public office. I cheered when Duke Cunningham went to prison, and I'll do the same if Ensign is found guilty. No one should tolerate corruption in government, regardless of political affiliation.

The double standard and hypocrisy is on topic and as far as changing the subject that's a play out of the Liberal book.

The same ethics apply to all on both sides unless Liberals are in charge.

Ensign should step down if he's guilty as charged before it goes any further but the same is true of Obama. Fair enough?
