What was you first reaction upon seeing this headline?

My first thought was we have two choices here, one is it was done by some racist and was just a not so funny prank done by someone having a private laugh.

Thought number two, was that if any law suit comes up saying something Walmart didn't take the proper measures to insure that this kind of thing can't happen, it was done by either the black person filing the suit or someone connected to the suit in an attempt to get rich quick.
I would say we should know pretty quickly if this is the case.

It also could have been a disgruntled former employee or customer.

I never heard of a Bias Crime.

I think it's really stupid to blame the Store for an act that may have been nothing more than some redneck having fun.

Having a boycott is a racist act un light of not knowing the who, and why of this.

"All Black People" Asked to Leave S. Jersey Wal-Mart | NBC Philadelphia
Store is looking at security video to figure out who made the announcement

Wal-Mart officials are looking at security tapes after an announcement was made for "all black people'' to leave a store in South Jersey.

A man used the public-address system at the Route 42 store in Washington Township Sunday night and calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.''

Patricia Covington and Shelia Ellington were inside the store when it happened and told the Courier Post that customers and store employees looked stuneed when they heard it.

"In 2010, I want to know why such statements are being made because it flies in the face of what we teach them [our kids] at home, and that's tolerance for people," said Ellington.

I think its funny as hell. :lamo

Though it would have been more topical to say "All Irish leave the store"..... ;)

I think it's funny as hell as well. :rofl

It would be funnier if it happened down here in the south and they asked the rednecks to leave the store. Good lord, Walmart is the home to the tatoo>teeth crowd down here.

Don't want to do that. It would likely cause the charges to increase. The amount of people that would leave based on that would be akin to causing a panic.

There would still be plenty of "overweight black people in spandex" and "recent immigrants from Mexico who don't speak English so good and wear cowboy boots" left over.

I bet you would get a really unexpected turn out if you did ask for all the rednecks to leave.

those who openly call themselves red necks are the Toby Keith listeners who are borderline white-collar workers, drive big trucks, and live in a house instead of a trailer.

The real rednecks wouldn't leave because they would consider themselves "normal" and would find offense to being called one.

Me personally I didn't think it was funny at all. Exposing children to that kind of racism particularly black children only exacerbates a stereotype.

I don't find it funny, but I don't think any lawsuits should come from this against Walmart.

Wal Mart should probably secure their comm systems better, but sh*t happens, so no I don't think Wal Mart is responsible for this. It does depend on how they handle it, though, regarding whether or not a boycott or anything like that is necessary (for example, if they found out that their manager did it on a bet from an employee or something stupid like that, and then they didn't fire that guy).

I started out being serious here and then in the first response Reverend_Hellh0und blew that right out of the water and I have to admit what was said was funny.

We were off to the races from there, however all the joy left Mudville when I saw this the above post and the mental picture came into focus. I thought I have seen the spandex woman and does she get around.

At that point I felt sad followed immediately by being sort of sick to my stomach and then the thought of the woman trying to reach her goal of 1000 lbs popped into my head and how her Mr. Lucky supports her effort.

Now it's like a song you can't get out of your head. I think they call them flash backs. I'm having spandex flash backs.

Thanks pal.

The place would empty out, many employees included

Around here, they should say "Attention. Everyone who weighs more than 200 pounds please leave the store." That will make it easier for me to get through those lines.

Sounds like someone may have been pulling an unfunny prank. Not enough info to be sure.

I think it was one of the most racist things anyone could do...singling out one group of people just for the fun of it. Stupid really. It's certainly one way to bring undue attention to Walmart. Just imagine how things could have turned out had a few black patron became angry upon hearing that announcement? Those who wanted their race war....you'd have been on good footing to have it had people let their emotions get the better of them!

Such a stupid thing to have done...not funny at all.

Curious...of all those who have posted who thinks this was funny, I'd like to know how many of you are white? How would you feel if the announcement was for all white people to leave the store? I wonder what your reaction would have been then? Would you still see it as a joke or would you then become offended?

Conductor: Okay, okay...all you white people get off the train here. That's right, hippies and hipsters. If you under thirty-five and white, you don't want to stay on this train no mo'. The next stop will be the ghet-to!

This type of thing is incredibly common here in the city. No lawsuits yet, nor have I found anyone who gives a ****.

I can't believe that people are taking this so seriously. ****ing Jersey.

I kind of embarassed myself at Disneyland on Friday when my partner tried to squeeze into the tram seat next to me and I said, "Oh hell no, there's no room for you here. Get to the back of the bus, Ms. Parks".

Had no idea there was a black family sitting behind me. I was told they were glaring holes through the back of my head.

Josh is fat?

Josh is fat?

No, not at all. There was just like two inches left on the seat and he was trying to squeeze me over because he didn't want to sit on the next seat with the Arabs.

I think I would know immediately it was a joke. Now, had I been in the store and saw black people upset by the annoucement, I would likely NOT find it funny. But my instinct when I read it was to laugh. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

Y'all some racist bitches. But I'm sketched about sitting near Arab people in cramped spaces myself. Specially when they're not speaking in English or French. I had this guy sit next to me once on a 5 hour flight and he was reading a book in Arabic. I spent the middle 3 hours of that flight hoping he was reading Les Miserables.
