Well he avoided my post (as usual) and attacks a nice lady instead. A lady who is liked and respected around the forums.

I consider the source.

Even you have more credibility than he does. At least you are honest enough to say who and what you are, and that is that. I can at least respect that.

He has shown little in the way of honesty or virtue of any kind. He just wants to play the blame game and that is that. Everyone who does not agree with him is a racist or worse.

I just don't have the time to wage war against that kind of hyper partisan bigotry.

When used in context, I agree. When the word "nigger" is separated by quotations to indicate isolation from actual utility in the sentence, it becomes just a word in quotes.

I can see both sides of this. I can certainly see the humorous side due to how absurd the notion of making an announcement for all black people to leave a store is. I'm a big fan of absurd humor. However, I can definitely understand people getting offended over it. Racism is still an incredibly sore spot with some people. I think a lot of people are forgetting that racism still exists and are either incapable or unwilling to empathize with those who don't find this type of stuff funny. However, I'm also willing to admit that my finding humor in it stems from an extremely fortunate standpoint. I didn't grown up in a world where people have been discriminatory towards me because of the color of my skin. So obviously, hearing this doesn't offend me as much as it would others. This is why I can find humor in it. I don't really think it's necessary to demean or insult people who get offended by this stuff because we all come from different backgrounds and have different experiences. We all get offended by different things.
 
So apparently this is a teenager and he is now arrested for what he did. I think it's a bit ludicrous to arrest the kid. It sounds to me like a dumbass teenager doing dumbass teenager stuff. I mean, sure impress the reality of the situation saying it's not a good thing and certainly cannot be done on a PA system not your own. But I don't think this needs an arrest record and possible jail time.

I agree. It was a stupid thing to do, but criminal? Don't think so.

They have videos all over the internet of teenagers doing Walmart pager pranks. This doesn't appear to be any different. I highly doubt the kid is racist, but was doing something to get a reaction. Unfortunately, for teenagers, very little thought goes into these types of actions.

Yes, but of course little thought went into it. It's a teenager, teenagers don't tend to think things through well; despite their insistence that they know everything. We've all done dumb teenager stuff when we were dumb teenagers. Including Wal-Mart pranks; it's nothing new. I think we need to keep that in mind when we go after teenagers. Yes, there needs to be some accountability and getting in trouble. But that used to be accomplished by cops showing up on the door step informing your parents about what you've done. That's fine. But now we're going to do arrest records and trials and possible jail time for something that was nothing more than a dumb, ill conceived prank.

Ahh OK. I had read a CNN article that said he was arrested, but upon re-reading it does say he is now in the custody of his parents. Fair enough, I think that's all that probably needs to be done in this case.

Yeah, the police took him in basically to scare the crap out of him. Then he gets turned over to his parents for the real punishment. The system works!

StandUPChuck does not have a perennial rectum.
 
I even saw the humor in it, but unfortunately for some of us it also brought back emotions and feelings long buried.

What made me personally angry was people saying get over it. When you have been in a situation like that, it's not so easy to let go of the anger. You are made to feel impotent and lesser for no good reason. It sticks with some people a lifetime.

I guess racial profiling hits the same cord for me. I have been a victim of it and even recently my wife at airports. It gets old fast.

I also disliked people saying "I was laughing at the absurdity" and I am certain a few did. Most were laughing at the insult, shock and hurt the blacks were feeling in the store.

I can't stand people trying to make themselves feel better with a lie. Laughing may make you insensitive, but not racist.
