House may try to pass Senate health-care bill without voting on it

it's not "our problem"

LOL!

it's hers

if you can deem it, deem it

you can't, way short of 216, not close

health care's dead

deal with it

If I am a member of the house, who wants to vote "no" on this, where will my no vote be recorded as required as outlined in the US Constitution if they do this?

?

You can vote no on the bill that will enact the bill.

If you're trying to point the fact that they will be voting on another bill that will pass another bill along with it, I think everyone understands it at this point.

to vote on "another bill that will pass another bill along with it..."

well, you clearly don't

I'm not fond of holding grudges or getting petty, and I want this bill to be passed purely because of the good it will do, but I fully intend to come on here and read all of your posts right after this bill passes. Should be some great entertainment watching you backtrack. I'm already bookmarking the dozens of threads you've repeated you're tired old talking points in.

Have you heard about Dennis Kucinich's press meeting scheduled later today?

Seriously, how as a house member can I cast my vote if they use this slaughter method?

Righties are upset that they will pass it using the rules of the senate. I don't know how they've convinced themselves that this is bad thing though, just like they convinced themselves that reconciliation is the nuclear option.

And there is a rule in the House where you can vote on a bill that also deems another bill to be passed. It's not a new rule. If anyone doesn't want it passed, then don't vote for it.

If they vote for a bill that passes another bill, does that mean that bill passed? Well, by definition, yes.

I haven't seen anyone actually give a reason as to why this can't be done. Just talking points on how they will pass it without a vote.

If you don't like how they do it then that's your problem.

As certain as you, a random poster at debatepolicits.com, are, people that actually study and have argued cases involving the procedure aren't quite as certain. Hmm... Who to believe?

Do you comprehend the depths of corruption and low-life tactics your party is resorting to IN ORDER TO DEFEAT PEOPLE IN ITS OWN PARTY?

I suspect not.

If you just refuse to accept the house rules then I can't help you dude.

The constitution says that when a vote is taken to pass a bill, the votes will be recorded, as will happen here. It also does not bar passing a piece of legislation with another piece of legislation. I didn't make up the rules.

It's amazing.

The Republicans have practically made up a litmus test to enter their party, but how dare those democrats do everything they can to get this 1 key piece of legislation through. THEY'RE RUINING THE COUNTRY!

I have some problems with the way some things were done, I didn't like the bribes and I still hope that they'll get taken out (though I think the whole "behind closed doors" and ramming it down our throats crap is pure BS) but when you have a piece of legislation that will help the country as much as this one will and has been this long over due, you make every push you can.

In the world of politics, threatening to not campaign for someone if they don't vote for this bill just doesn't seem controversial at all to me like some people try to make it out to be.

I take it you DISAPPROVE of the republican litmus test? So do I. I also disapprove of the Libertarian litmus test. It all smacks of a certain mindless obligation to partisan ideology that is destroying the country.

Maybe you have missed it...but the majority of people in this country (yep...including the constituents of many democrats) do not WANT this legislation. And how on earth can you possibly know if it will 'help the country'? We just found out today that the Massachusettes health care plan would completely bankrupt the state if not for a mass transfusion of federal dollars. So...when it is the FED that is bankrupt, who are you going to turn to to bail them out?

So...of ALL the issues out there...of all the value of individual politicians...support the president on this one or die...got it...

If you just refuse to accept the house rules then I can't help you dude.

If you can't understand and refuse to accept what's in the Constitution I can't hepl you dude.

And in a few years when the republicans use this for something you find absolutley repugnant. I'm sure I'll see you making this same argument for it. :ssst:

What section of the constitution? could you link to it please as I have done for you. Thanks.

No, the votes will NOT be recorded. That's the point of this little shenanigan Nancy is pulling. This might even be voted on with a small committee.

It's beyond pathetic to pass something this comprehensive, this expensive, and this society changing in such a devious manner WHEN YOUR PARTY HAS ENOUGH PEOPLE TO PASS IT WITHOUT REPUBLICANS! Do you not understand that MANY LIBERALS HATE THE BILL, TOO, and Nancy is basically saying F YOU to her own party?

You want me to give you the section of the constitution for something that isn't in there?

Have you heard about Dennis Kucinich's press meeting scheduled later today?[/QUOTE]

No...do you think the great independent Kucinich has been bought off and will now vote to support it? I really do hope so!!! That will pretty much confirm that every congressman is for sale.

I unlike many opposed to the legislation have no doubt that ultimately this will pass. Democrats have a way of finding votes in closets months after elections have passed...so...by hook, crook, or outright bribery, there will be SOMETHING passed.

I also expect the republicans will have long memories...and when the next election is held where the republicans regain a simple majority...the fun will REALLY start.

Oh...and I also predict that before the next election is held there will be executive orders granting felons voting rights and also granting illegal immigrants voting rights, with groups like ACORN being given federal dollars to sign them up and fill out their cards for them.

And if it's unconstitutional then it will be overturned, and at that point I think it should try to be passed another way. I'm not absolutely certain but I do understand what they're trying to do and that it's been used before, but just arguing that something could potentially face legal challenges down the road isn't a reason not to do it if it's the only way or if it's the best way to do it.

I fully understand it.

Righties are upset that they will pass it using the rules of the senate. I don't know how they've convinced themselves that this is bad thing though, just like they convinced themselves that reconciliation is the nuclear option.

Righties are upset...hmmm...

no...be honest. Everyone with a JOB...everyone that pays taxes. Everyone that is concerned about the economic future of the country...of ANY political ideation is upset.

The only people that ARENT upset are the crippled dependent pets that the democrats pander to...the unemployed...the underemployed...the people that are siddling up to the dems with their cups beggin for more.

The majority...STRONG majority of actual 'thinking' Americans are upset with what they see in congress. Democrats, republicans, libertarians, and independents...every poll has proven it. The only ones that arent are the blind idealogues that cheer pasaage of SOMETHING...please GOD...pass SOMETHING!!! We dont care what it IS and we dont care what it COSTS and we damn sure dont care HOW...just pass SOMETHING.

Sound familiar?

so you concede your party is doing something that is unconstitutional yet you support it?

Seriously? :doh

Show me where it ok's reconciliation, where it says you need 60 votes to break a filibuster, or where it says that members must vote directly on the bill to pass it.

You go ahead and keep telling yourself that everyone agrees with you. I have a job, pay taxes, get insurance through my employer, and care about my country but I still support it, therefor you're wrong.

Feel free to keep up your talking points though. :)

Now you're just going off the deep end believing crap you read on right wing blogs.

Feel free when the bill comes out to point out what is in there to bribe Kucinich. My guess is that you don't really care about the truth, you just want to repeat those talking points.

When they draft legislation to allow felons and illegals to vote, I'll be here agreeing with you and calling my congressman to vote against it. Til then you sound like a raving lunatic that needs to go to the gun store and gather up some more ammo before Obama takes your guns, and go fishing before he illegalizes that also. You know that to be true because you heard it on Rush Limbaugh, right? :rofl

i'm sure your mom is proud of you, say hi to her for me

why do you think anyone EXCEPT your mom cares what you think, even my mom doesn't care what you think

No talking points...every poll points to the same thing...the people of this country dont like that fact that their elected officials are being bribed and accepting bribes to support legislation THEY dont want.

As to the rest...well...YOU...a taxpayer...are endorsing the passage of legislation you know NOTHING about...now...(I tried typing things here but now matter what I typed it comes across as a personal attack).

Democrats who have a wee bit of experience with government sponsored healthcare understand what it does to their budgets.

“I was afraid of what we had already been getting in Massachusetts, and at that point in 2008, I was aware that it wasn’t working,” he said. Separately yesterday, Cahill accused Obama of “propping up” the Bay State’s health plan with federal aid in order to help push the Democrats’ plan through Congress"

Tim Cahill slams Barack Obama, Dems on health care - BostonHerald.com

See...it doesnt MATTER what the cost is...just PASS SOMETHING.

You get that when you are driving downhill with failing brakes that pulling the wheel hard to the left and driving over the cliff is an OPTION...but probably not a GOOD one...right?

Wow...its pretty easy to see when an idealogue is getting his ass kicked in a debate...he turns to Rush Limbaugh.

YOU...the person that cant be bothered to READ what you support...and get spoon fed your garbage...accusing ANYONE of talking point rhetoric...priceless baby...absolutely priceless.

So to recap...

YOU have NO IDEA what is in the legislation...you have NO IDEA what it costs. You have NO IDEA how the federal government is supposed to run it better than the medicare system which they admit is being abused to the tune of at LEAST 80 billion a year...and yet...you support the legislation...

If I called you an idiot that would be perceived as a personal attack...and an insult to idiots to boot...so I absolutely WILL NOT call you an idiot. I dont have to. Your own words expose you every time you post here.

Oh...and I also predict that before the next election is held there will be executive orders granting felons voting rights and also granting illegal immigrants voting rights, with groups like ACORN being given federal dollars to sign them up and fill out their cards for them.

Man, you just sent a shiver down my spine.

Given recent tactics and the events of the past year, I shudder at the thought of just what lengths these character-less animals will go to in 2012.

It will be the ugliest presidential election we've ever seen, making J.Q. Adams and Jackson look like an arm wrestling match.

You would think that a good Bill would pass without much problem. With all of the bickering, lack of confidence to vote on the Bill, possible added "riders" like student loan reform, I for one I'm skeptical that this Bill is the correct one. I believe we need HC reform. It amazes me that for something this important, Congress is having problems getting a straight up and down vote.
