I hope the dems have the balls to follow through on this because it should doom Obama's socialist health care program.

FOXNews.com - Dem Dozen Threatens to Bail on Health Care Over Abortion Language

Updated 4 March 2010

Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak said Thursday he's counted 11 Democratic lawmakers in addition to himself who are willing to kill President Obama's health care overhaul over abortion language.

Mar. 3: Health professionals applaud as President Obama speaks about health care reform at the White House.
Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak said Thursday he's counted 11 Democratic lawmakers in addition to himself who are willing to kill President Obama's health care overhaul over abortion language.

Stupak sponsored a provision in the House of Representatives' health care bill, which passed last fall, that clearly prohibits the use of federal money to pay for abortions. That language did not make it into the Senate bill, the model Obama is using to craft the plan he is expected to send to Congress shortly.

"We're not gonna vote for this bill with that kind of language in there," Stupak said Thursday in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"I want to see health care, but we're not gonna bypass some principles and belief that we feel strongly about," he said, adding that he's "prepared to take responsibility" for bringing down the bill.

Democratic leaders say they want the legislation passed by Easter. Obama has urged the Senate to use the "reconciliation" procedure to pass the bill, which would allow Democrats to avoid a 60-vote majority needed to strike down a filibuster but would demand that lawmakers vote only on matters that impact the the budget. But before that happens, House Democrats can prevent the legislation from reaching the Senate.

First of all, it's a amazing with all the information, fact checks, etc. out there that some people still cling to the "socialism" talking point. It seems that no amount of dictionaries, historical perspective, or reasoned explanation of the facts can break the hold that the dark red kool-aide has on these people... What's in that kool-aide? Something that makes you paranoid and easily persuaded by the repletion of false notions.

Even if we show them that the reconciliation process can only pass a fraction of the bill, they still won't let go of their talking point--"Government Take-Over."

And the old folks who want "government out of their medicare" are especially precious... That's right grandma, big government 'bad' -- Now, go pick up your free meds and go back to sleep.

Secondly, I wish more people on the right side of the aisle would have the balls this guy has to defy his own party and do what he thinks is right. At least with him, you know what you're getting...

Some GOP members are currently opposing policies/amendments they sponsored/suggested. Well done. Way to be effective!:bravo:

What about food.......should citizens be provided free food from cradle to grave........

What about a car....Should citizens be given a freecar from craadle to grave...

what about a house.......Should citizens be given a free house from cradle to grave........

I could go on and on..........At what point my left wing friends do citizens have a rsponsibility to take care of themselve....Where do you draw the line because nothing is free.......Someone has to pay for it and its the tax payer.........I love how you lefties love to spend money as long as its not yours..........

Begin NP's talking point rant:

You need to look up the definition of socialism.....Providing services or material for free is and act of socialism.....

Yikes! Not even close. Perhaps a free dictionary/encyclopedia would be helpful.

Where does it stop with you lefties...Should citizens be taken care of from cradle to grave.......

Um... no. Of course not.

What about food.......should citizens be provided free food from cradle to grave........

Um... no.

What about a car....Should citizens be given a freecar from craadle to grave...

A baby driving a car? Sounds dangerous.

what about a house.......Should citizens be given a free house from cradle to grave........

Nope. None of the policies you described exist.

I could go on and on..........

.................And still not make a valid point.

At what point my left wing friends do citizens have a rsponsibility to take care of themselve....Where do you draw the line because nothing is free.......Someone has to pay for it and its the tax payer.........I love how you lefties love to spend money as long as its not yours..........

The "lefties"... I see. One hardly knows where to start. The "righties" have spent quite a bit of money on social programs, the safety nets, the temporary assistance programs etc.

So, if both political parties support some sort of public assistance and safety net programs... what do you support?:

A) The party that does the least.
B) The party that does the most effective.
C) A happy medium of cost effective programs.
D) Debtor's prisons and work camps for the poor.

I support lifting your self up by your booth straps and not expecting someone else to pay for your every need like a Liberal like you wants to do.......Thus sicuakist health program your daddy Obama wants will bamk rupt this country...........

Thank Gof he does not have the votes in the HOR.....

Wouldn't it be a kick in the ass of the Obama socialist health program if Abotion shot it down......

When it's about stealing from the productive to provide unearned benefits to the non-productive, it's socialism. Get over it, we're not stupid enough to not see this.

Even if we show them that the reconciliation process can only pass a fraction of the bill, they still won't let go of their talking point--"Government Take-Over."

Yeah, has something to do with 50%+1 of the Senate overriding the expressed will of over 60% of the public. Tends to piss people off. Especially when people like you are now silent on the matter of "special interests" that driving this issue against the will of the poeple.

And the old folks who want "government out of their medicare" are especially precious... That's right grandma, big government 'bad' -- Now, go pick up your free meds and go back to sleep.

Irrelevant.

Opposing this bill is the right thing to do, so what's your problem with those people opposing the bill?

Some GOP members are currently opposing policies/amendments they sponsored/suggested. Well done. Way to be effective!:bravo:

You mean they're possibly listening to their constituents? What evil men they are.

Um... no. Of course not.

No, of course not. When people get too old to work they should be treated like the stalwart stallion in Animal Farm, and sold to the knackers.

Soylent Green is people.

Um... no.

D looks like an option.

How about prison for Congressmen taxing the productive to buy votes from the poor?

these people in pelosi's place are being asked to stick their necks out ONCE MORE for a bill no one likes and millions despise WITH NO GUARANTEE what's going to happen upstairs

how many times can you ask these moderates, freshmen and dogs to risk everything for leadership only to be left hanging like they've been dangled over for a year on cap and trade, the stimulus, the jobs, the budget, the health care...

they are not going to GO FIRST

if you want us, they must insist, you're going to have to submit in writing exactly how you're gonna guarantee that the senate parliamentarian is not gonna perceive mandates on individuals to go out and get aetna as a violation of the byrd rule...

blah blah blah

can't you see---obama is BORING america to death

the reaction against his leadership is becoming GAG REFLEX

i personally have never seen anything like this

the president is pathological

What's boring is the usual, non-stop, "lefty-liberal-socialist" vs. "the right-wingnut-teabagger-nazi" banter.

I think that any language that will make my tax dollars available to anyone for a convenience abortion is enough of a deal breaker for me.

But I have absolutely no faith in the GOP to help American's get a grip on the much needed health-care reform regardless of their "let's start from scratch" rhetoric. As soon as the dem's conceed to that, the reform we need might as well be dead in the water. This is just another GOP prolonging tactic to appease their special interests. They will NEVER support any type of reform that will hurt their special interest's interests. If it was left up to them, and they could write it all, they wouldn't do doodly-**** for the average citizen. "Let them eat cake." That's the GOP approach, as clearly stated above by our hard rightwing collegues above.

And I have absolutely no trust in the democrats getting the job done and be fiscally responsible about it. But their heart's in the right place. (More than I can say for the GOP.) But the dem's got their head's up their collective asses, fiscally, IMO. Reminds me of a joke. "It was so cold up here last winter I actually saw a democrat with his hands in his OWN pockets."
LO-fricken-L.

Besides, wasn't health care reform Hillery's pet project? I thought she LOST the primaries?

Whatever. We're America. We WILL survive. We're hard-wired that way.

That's what every extinct species would think, if it could think.

Frankly, I don't see a high rate of survival among people who take socialist strychnine, hang themselves by the neck from socialist ropes, and jump out of socialist buildings all simultaneously while just knowing their socialist hammock will protect them from harm.

There is no health care crisis. There's a false urgency manufactured to compel the weak-minded to demand a the offered resolution.

Rather than filling the bath tub up with scalding water and just plunking the baby in, how about if we identify what the real problems are, then debate what free-market adjustments will solve those problems?

Problem: Price.

Solution Offered: Punitive taxation, compulsory enrollment, BIGGGG government.

Solution needed: More competition among providers for larger segments of the population. Hence, elimination of federal interstate bans on health insurance sales. Do that first, if it doesn't work (it will), we still have ample time to put on the swastika arm bands and have our appointed gauleiter's direting us to whatever substandard hospital the government will provide.

Problem: Dropped/Denied coverage.

Solution offered: Punitive taxation, compulsory enrollment, BIGGGG government.

Solution needed: An understanding of why clients are dropped or denied coverage. Rework existing law to address how private industry treats customers.

as well, what republicans would do and what's in democrats' hearts is simply too prettified a platonic symposium for the perpetually PRACTICAL prof

because HERE---TODAY---NOW---ON EARTH---IN AMERICA:

THIS bill is a PIG

that's REALITY

THIS president is a PUTZ

all PARTISANSHIP aside

we really do all need to DEAL with this

the first step in recovery, remember...

now, let's all return to our contemplations of philosophical perfection

ie, the way things should be
