House Democrats short on votes for jobs bill - Lisa Lerer - POLITICO.com

House Democrats are coming up short on a $15 billion jobs bill and won’t take up the legislation on Tuesday as Democratic leaders try to negotiate among various factions, according to a leadership aide.

The jobs bill, passed by a wide margin in the Senate last week, faces opposition from conservative Blue Dogs and liberal members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Staffers worked all weekend to move forward with the legislation but discussions are still ongoing with the conservative Blue Dogs. Ways and Means Democrats are trying to find ways to offset the $2 billion cost of the legislation, a necessary step to secure the votes of the conservative block.

And liberals say the measure pales in comparison to the $154 billion jobs bill the House passed last December.

"No one’s got any problem with what the bill does, but whether or not there’s a balance between tax cuts and investment," said House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, in a conference call of Democrats from both chambers.

Leadership has promised liberals that the legislaton would only be the first step in a series of jobs bills.

"We all would see that as round one of what we would exect to be a series of bills on jobs," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Some comments:

1. The party is peeling apart.

2. Can't even pass a little 15 cent "jobs" bill.

3. Ie, a teeny tiny STIMULUS which leadership can't even call a STIMULUS.

4. The s-word can never be used again, Obama made it an obscenity.

5. The delegation degenerates, Dogs versus CBC.

6. The Party of No plays no part.

7. Poor Pelosi, the president has paralyzed her.

8. Harry hustled so hard for him.

9. But when Obama visited Nevada, the Leader's polls plummeted.

10. Obama's entire agenda is out of reach.

11. His BIG platform, pre Massachusetts---health care, cap and trade, financial regulatory reform.

12. His MINISCULE menu, subsequent to Scott Brown---the bank tax, the debt commission, the spending freeze...

13. And now, this, his 15 cent SECOND STIMULUS which he can't call a STIMULUS.

14. It's THAT bad.

15. The president is roundly irrelevant.

16. Already.

17. Never has a US pol fallen so far so fast.

18. His foreign policy---Gitmo, Iran, no nukes, international climate, his reachout, getting Putin and Hu on board concerning sanctions...

19. All that's left of his overseas ambitions is his ESCALATION of Afghanistan.

20. Ie, OBAMA'S WAR.

21. And even there, he's in the wrong place.

22. Our enemy, Al Qaeda, is mostly in Pakistan.

23. Victory in OBAMA'S WAR is more dependent on corrupt, incompetent Zardari than it is on the heroic efforts even of US troops.

24. The party pushed "paygo," then repelled themselves around it 24 hours later.

25. This is what Bats-in-his-Belfry Bunning is bellyaching about.

26. And Nancy can't get past Ways and Means, the face of which for 20 years has been Charlie Rangel, the most corrupt congressperson in the capitol.

27. Obama is the most inept politician at the national level America has ever produced.

28. Instead of the approach he's taken, all he had to do was introduce some legislation which was POPULAR.

29. That's his PROBLEM, he's always pushing pieces that are so UNPOPULAR.

30. He doesn't get it, he thinks it has to do with FILIBUSTERS.

31. LOL!

32. Party on, progressives, be proud.

Sounds like typical Democratic obstructionism from the party of no.

When are the Dims (no spell error) going to learn from their mistakes?

We don't need more spending to create jobs we need much less along woth lower personal and corporate taxes.

This is not hard to understand if you are not mentally challenged or like Obama, Reid, and Pelosi out to destroy the economy as part of their plan to force a total Socialist/Marxist system.

What is most puzzling is why other wise seemingly normal people are still supporting these anti-Americans who go out of their way to insult everyone's intelligence with statements and policies that are so blatantly ignorant that even a those who are much less than genius should be able to see it.

So annoying.
