N.Y. High School Sued for Disbanding Christian Student Club

I don't hate christians at all. I have several good friends who are devoutly religious. Hearing them talk about how same-sex marriage is "radical movement trying to impose its agenda on them" drives me nuts, though. You guys understand it is presently your agenda imposed on others, right?

Well I doubt black christian tend to think the world is out to get them because they are christian.
 
If anyone wants to research this story from other news sources, feel free. I get my news mainly from BBC online, Fox News online, and NPR while driving. I'm not going to spend time just to appease some Fox News hating person whom I have never met, nor want to meet... :rolleyes:
 
Overall it would be good to know

How many people actually went to the meeting on a regular basis

Did it have a supervisor willing to go

Which other clubs are being disbanded

Which ones are not

And

Of the ones that are not being disbanded, how many people were going to those meeting

Seriously. Black Christians, white Christians etc. all scream the same when it comes to feeling attacked.

Well I dont recall many (or any for that matter) reports from African American communities complaining about black christians being discriminated against for being christian. Even from Jesse Jackson, not one who is afraid about pulling the discrimination card

That does not mean anything. The news does not find it newsworthy. Now let us say something about race. Then it winds up on every channel.

Do you have any reports that suggest black christians feel discriminated against because they are christian?

Here are some facts from the lawsuit:

There are over 60 active clubs on campus

In 2005 when they tried to start the Christian club, they were denied repeatedly and only when they hired a lawyer did the school finally give in.

Then the school began to cancel their meetings citing "conflicts" in the schedule. This went on for months. Clearly an attempt to attack the organizational power of the club.

When they disbanded the club they gave no reason and it wasn't until they were pressed they claimed "fiscal management" and "lack of participation" despite the fact they had 55 members and 90 students who signed a petition that the club should be reinstated.

The students even offered to pay for ALL expenses and still the school board denied the reinstatement of the club and instead said they could meet at another high school.

They even proposed to reduce their meetings to bi weekly to cut down on the "cost" the school was complaining about and still were denied.

These are very reasonable negotiation points this club tried in good faith to make and the school still denied them.

Then the school claimed they would deny it due to "enrollment standards" but then refused to explain what those standards were even to repeated public requests.

This is classic anti-Christian behavior from an obviously discriminatory school board hell bent on denying these kids their right to form a club.

So none of these Christians is Black. It is ok in your eyes to be racist?
 
Threads like this almost always end up being a lot of bluster, and then it turns out to be about nothing. Right now no one here has enough facts to judge. If the club was disbanded merely for being a christain club(as long as other religions have the same rights), then it was probable the school is wrong. if the club was disbanded for other reasons, then the school did nothing wrong. Running ahead of the facts and getting all bent out of shape does no one any good.

it is fun watching certain conservatives who love to play the victim continue to do so though, I will admit.

I agree. If all religious clubs were disbanded then this really is a non issue. If there are still other religious clubs active at the school then this Christian club has a leg to stand on.

Maybe. Depends on the reason why it was disbanded. It would be a pretty strong case though if other religious clubs where still active.

No idea if they are black or not, I have a feeling they are not though

And people have the right to be racist, and I can as my right dislike those who are racist

It is ok to be racist to whites but nobody else. You say this with no proof that is deplorable.

Well if all religious clubs were disbanded, then this club cannot say the school is trying to just focus on Christians. I am not saying that the school is still in the clear, but it would definitely weaken their argument. I do think it is too early to start judging the situation completely.

It is a general attack on Christianity (or that is the way they see it) not anything in particular. Christians of all races and creeds feel under attack Whether it is real or imagined. Trying to somehow make it about race is just stupid. Race has nothing at all to do with it.

Walk into any Christian black church, white church or Hispanic church and ask them if they feel Christianity is under attack and at least 80% will say yes.

This incident has nothing at all to do with race. :doh
