Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outraged

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

She shouldn't make her child fight her battles. If she had a problem with her child's teacher or the curriculum , she should have talked to the man, not told her child it was ok to disobey him.

You don't send your child to fight your battles.

I would have assumed that this wouldn't be a big deal, actually. Who would expect the crazy teacher would call the cops? That is beyond the pale.

That's another thing: why didn't the police roll their eyes at her and arrest her for wasting their resources? Why did the police actually follow through with her lunacy?

Then say it is National Socialist.

It's not my job to make sure people who don't know the difference between socialism and communism don't get offended by my correct use of the word.

Socialism does not reject nations.

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

Yes, it does.

No, it doesn't. Some facets of socialism might, such as anarcho-syndicalism and communism, but Socialism itself does not.

Even Marx argued that a socialist state was a precursor to communism.

Seriously, how can you claim to be communist without knowing the difference.

I can't imagine a teacher calling the cops about this. There may be more to the story. My mother would have been pissed if I had refused to do something the teacher told me to do.

. My mother would have been pissed if I had refused to do something the teacher told me to do.

Even if it was against their religion? I doubt it.

My poor mother was a teacher in the same school system. Damn i always got caught.

Forcing the pledge is hypocritical in a free country, and so is making kids stand for the national anthem. Let the kids decide. If they grow up and feel patriotic then they can take part in that. If they want to sit down for it, then that is their own choice.

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

So someone NOT saying the Pledge of Allegiance causes you to think that the person must have a negative opinion on being an American?

The ignorance in this thread is astonishing.

Ummm...not for nothing...but I was curious about your comment here. i mean...i dont recall seeing a ton of support for the teacher...so I went back and counted...and as of your 35th post citing the ignorance on this thread...and there were exactly TWO comments that might be construed as somehow supporting the teachers actions...32 affirming the kids right to object or agreeing the teachers overreaction was at best foolish...

so...speaking of overreaction...

Tucker Case said:

A state is not a nation. They are completely different.

If I'm not mistaken, this incident occurred in Jim-Bob territory. ;) Y'all know what I mean? ;)

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

Children should because children are citizens.

They need to be taught that having the freedom to refuse to say the pledge is better than having explosives strapped to them in the name of Alah.

The very fact that this student has the protected right not to say the pledge if she doesn't want to is by itself reason enough for her to do it.
Children don't have enough maturity to decide whether or not they want to pledge allegiance to a country, or which country. Without that maturity their pledge is coerced. A pledge isn't a real pledge if it's coerced.

The determination of if a child should say the Pledge, or any other optional thing of that sort, should be made by the parent, in most cases.

That's true but we can also have opinions about what parents should and shouldn't teach their kids. Just because someone feels that it's wrong for parents to hit their kids, that doesn't necessarily mean that they want to take that right away from parents.

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

Absolutely ridiculous act on the part of the teacher, completely in contrary with school policies.

Granted, I've never seen anyone personally sit for the pledge that wasn't doing it just casue they're a lazy **** or they think it was funny more so than because they were "Rebelling against america man!". Still, no one has to say the pledge in school. Its not required. And calling the cops on them is ridiculous.

I agree it was amd over reaction to call the cops but it is sad to me when I see something like this happen........I guess the next thing will be a bunch of left wingers throwing the bird or the middle finger at the flag when the national anthem is playing........Like American said this kind of thing was unheard of when I was growing up...

How far we go to push PC.............

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

I read this story yesterday in the Post.

I hope rivrrat comes into this thread because she's the first person who made me think, "Why do I do the pledge of allegience?" At this point, if asked to do it in a classroom setting, I wouldn't do it. I think it's stupid (which has nothing to do with my patriotism).

Kids have been doing the Pledge for probably 200 years without a problem......

Not quite.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States is an oath of loyalty to the republic of the United States of America, originally composed by Francis Bellamy in 1892.
I don't know when they started saying in school.

Why do you hate freedom?

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

I remember when my whole first grade class got paddled for something.

I can remember when all the boys in my 5th grade class got paddled for shaking hands with the girls in the class and scratching their palm.....I think that meant we wanted a little loving.....:rofl

Actually I agree with this in part.

I think the teacher is definitely at fault.

I also think the mother is as well. I have severe issues with parents attempting to push their political views in an extremely strong way, from either side, to the point where it will cause their children problems. This is essentially the parent trying to "Stick it to the man" through her child and I've got significant issues with that as well. That doesn't excuse the teacher, but the parent isn't blameless.

What is ironic is I actually served to give you the right to make a stupid statement like that........

You are the one that wants to take the freedom away from the little girl.

Served? As a supply clerk on a ship you probably didn't see a whole lot of combat, now did you? I have never seen anyone brag about serving like you do. Makes me wonder if you really did.
