Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outraged

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

What does 'under god' have to do with the country?

Under God is part of the pledge to this country.....

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

Anyone who is old enough to decide which country they want to pledge their allegiance to, is old enough to vote.

I understoodd that at about 7 years old.......

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

Under God is part of the pledge to this country.....

Do you even read what you respond to? We've just come full circle. And the point is... what? The words are in the pledge, yes. But what does 'under mythological being' have to do with OUR COUNTRY?

Let me give you a quick recap to save some time:

YOU: I even said "Under God" which Liberals seem to hate today.......

ME: Some PEOPLE don't like it. I know I didn't, it was silly. Like saying "under leprechauns". Doesn't make sense.

YOU: I think that is part of the problem......some people want all the benefits this country provides but they could care less about the country itself.......I can understand a child but adults should know better.......

ME: What does 'under god' have to do with the country?

YOU: Under God is part of the pledge to this country.....

ME: WTF? :confused::confused:

You are easily confused......The pledge is made up of words......when you say it you should mean it.....Under God is part of the pledge ...The SCOTUS has so stated......I will never understand what some of you ****ing lefties are doing here....You hate it so much..........

If you understood politics well enough to decide which country you wanted pledge your allegiance to, on your own, without brain washing, then you were mature enough to vote.

I did not understand politics at all......I understood why the pledge was said anwhat it stood for and somewhat patriotism to your country and I was 7...............

So you're saying that you wanted to be loyal to the country that you were living in and the country that your parents and teachers were loyal to?

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

Where's the "freedom" in coercing children into invoking a deity they or their parents may not recognise.

I was 7 years old.......I was taught what the pledge meant and why it was said every day.....It had nothing to do with politics.........Even at 7 I believed I was fortunate to live in the greatest country in the world........I appreciate that and always have..

Since my childhood I have traveled the world and visited over 100 countries and have yet to find one close to the USA........

Upu probably don't understand that and sadly never will...........

I myself am not saying a kid has to say the pledge I just say be respectful to the people that are saying it.........

I go to a football game and they play the National anthem and I see people not paying attention and shooting the ****......This kind of thing bothers me......

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

So you're saying that you wanted to be loyal to the country that you were living in and the country that your parents and teachers were loyal to?

Yeah I suppose I learned that from my parents and I don't believe its a bad thing........The nuns in Catholic School helped to...........

If you don't like it don't ****ing say it OK........That is the beauty of this country just respect the people that do........

It's a reference to the God who's authority, when followed, keeps you out of a burka.

God does not require your tribute to bless you, which ironically makes God all that much more deserving, and so no part of anything I post can be accurately read to mean anyone should be forced to recite "under God" or similar.

Kinda like the school respected the kid who didn't want to say it? :)

The child was not participating. He sat in his chair. Why is his physical position a problem to you?

I think you will see that I condemned what the school did if you would take the time to look.......

I think the child could have stood like the rest of the kids and just remained silent........

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

This kid should be thrown out of School, and the parents should be questioned.

The key words there are "Since my childhood". When you were 7, you didn't know this was the greatest country in the world. You found that out later. You recited the pledge only because you were told to. I agree that kids should do what their parents and teachers tell them to do, but the question still remains: What should we be telling them to do?

BTW, if you weren't forced to recite the pledge at 7, maybe you would've preferred one of those 100 other countries.

That would've been the respectful thing to do. Even if I was in a country like North Korea, I would stand for the national anthem if that was the custom.

That didn't answer my question. But no, I don't respect people just because they say 'under god'.

It's a reference to the God who's authority, when followed, keeps you out of a burka.
No, our laws do that. Not some fairy, or leprechaun, or other mythological being.

But my question had nothing to do with that. He made some asinine statement implying that people who didn't say 'under god' (i.e., unbelievers in his myth), didn't love their country. And I've yet to get him to explain what in the bloody ****ing hell reciting the words 'under god' and/or believing in his myth had to do with someone's love, or lack thereof, of this country.

If you require a child to stand during a proceeding he is not involved in, then you are coercing him into participating. That's an interesting parallel, do North Korea require their children to repeat a meaningless chant every morning too?

heh gods a fairy now? awesome! ( I am athiest so i'm totally kidding) ...or am I >.> <.< >.> <.< O.O!

Re: Child escorted out of class by police for sitting during the pledge, mother outra

I understand where NP is coming from in the sense of "being respectful" as those surrounding you say the pledge or whatever. However, I do not think the harassment always stops there.

The vile elementary school teacher I mentioned in my earlier post that made the child go stand in the hall with his nose in the corner because he could not say the pledge. She wouldn't allow him to stand next to "good" people as they said the pledge. He had to go to the naughty place.

Respect, being a two way street, I am not so sure that just standing silently would ward off any significant harassment. I think there are only a handful of the type of people that would harass someone like that to begin with. Unfortunantly, these people are unavoidable in society/life and will find a way to be rude and hateful regardless. Those tortured, bitchy, opinionated souls. Their numbers are few but there's one in every crowd.

But I do understand what my rightwing friend is trying to say. I am not Catholic. But when I attend mass with my wife, who is a devout Catholic, I do not participate in the lithergy (sp?) or any of that other religious mumbo jumbo, but I do stand, sit and kneel beside her in mutual respect.

However, if one felt, that being required/expected to stand, equated to "bending a knee," so to speak, in recognition of something they either do not support or believe in, that's valid too.

But. Like I said. There's only a person here or there that would say anything about whether or not one chose to participate in pledges, chants, prayers, rituals, etc. There aren't enough of them around to make a mountain out of this molehill. They're assholes anyways. So who really cares?

It's a free country. As long as it doesn't exact any flesh from me or my brood, live like you wanna live. You won't get any **** out of me.

I say the pledge. The Star Spangled Banner puts goosebumps on my arms and tears in my eyes. But that's me. If that don't work for you, then it's just something we don't have in common. Rather than picking of the open sore of what we do not have in common, I think our time would be better spent searching for something we do have in common.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

If you harm none, do what you will.
