Turns out he suffered a minor heart attack.

WASHINGTON -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney suffered a minor heart attack but is resting comfortably in a Washington hospital and will be released in a day or two, his family announced Tuesday.

"Former Vice President Cheney was admitted to (George Washington University) Hospital after experiencing chest pain. Lab testing revealed evidence of a mild heart attack. He underwent a stress test and a heart catheterization. He is feeling good and is expected to be discharged in the next day or two," reads a statement from his office.

Earlier in the day, a source close to Cheney said he remained in the hospital, a day after complaining of chest pains, out of an abundance of caution. Cheney family members said Cheney was stable and watched the Olympics Monday night.

Cheney's family joined him at the hospital on Tuesday, where wife Lynne and daughters Liz and Mary and former White House aides all had lunch together. Cheney was planning to spend the afternoon editing a chapter in his book, Liz Cheney told friends.

Cheney assistant Peter Long issued a statement Monday night that the 69-year-old Cheney was sent to the hospital where his doctors were evaluating the situation.

Cheney has a history of heart problems, including four heart attacks starting at age 37.

Man I didn't realize there were still biological components left to his heart.

Maybe I'm in a very small minority here, but I like Cheney, and believe he would have made a much better president than Bush. I suspect that most people can't handle his matter-of-fact, straight-forward demeanor, but I like that in a person.

I have this recurring fantasy:

Cheney is having a heart attack and he has a vision of Clarence the angel who shows him what life on earth would have been like had he never been born. Cheney suddenly understands all the harm he has caused to the world and wakes up, healthy and fit, and determined to undo all the evil he has caused.

It'd make a great holiday movie, you have to admit!

I have often thought the same thing. He's a lot closer to the center on quite a few issues. A neocon, though. He would have been aggressive.

It's his disrespect of the Constitution and the rule of law that I fault him most on. His ignoring of treaties, his claim that he is not a part of either the legislative or executive branch and therefore doesn't have to answer to anyone, his proud flaunting of the separation of powers.

A true conservative who loved our Constitution and country would agree on that, and many have.

Yeah, he does seem like a bit of a hawk, but he also seems less idealistic than the usual politician.

He is a good Conservative....I wish him well...........
No one pisses off the liberals like Dick Cheney -- may he live forever!

Get well soon, Mr. Vice-President.

I'm not sure that liberals are any better about respecting the Constitution...."aka living document", a term used almost exclusively by liberals.

His ignoring of treaties,

Which treaty? I'm not being a smartass, I just want to know.

his claim that he is not a part of either the legislative or executive branch and therefore doesn't have to answer to anyone, his proud flaunting of the separation of powers.

That was pretty original, you have to admit. I'll take that over Sarah Palin's attempt to describe what it is that a VP does.

A true conservative who loved our Constitution and country would agree on that, and many have.

Cheney is far from a true conservative, by Goldwater standards.

You are right on that. I can't stand Dick Cheney, but I could never stoop so low that I wish him ill. I hope he makes a quick recovery. THEN I will bash the crap out of him some more.

Well said.

But, heaven forbid, he turns for the worst, who is going to start the "Dick Cheney "Warning: this is not a R.I.P. thread" like they did for Murtha? :rofl

It's his disrespect of the Constitution and the rule of law that I fault him most on.

Show me more than a handful of elected politicians who don't disrespect the Constitution. I can't personally name five who are constitutionally-minded in action. They may talk a big game, but they are just trying to stay elected.

A true conservative who loved our Constitution and country would agree on that, and many have.

"Many" have? Does this mean that opinion should be based on numbers?

And again, where is all this harm he has caused the world?

Yeah, he does seem like a bit of a hawk,

That's probably understatement of the year, Liz.

but he also seems less idealistic than the usual politician.

He isn't an ideologue. Neocons usually don't have a big problem with spending or govt. expansion. They'll flex on social issues, also.

I mostly agree. Well, Cheney did not need to espouse ideals as much as President Bush did. In a way he was restricted from doing so, by nature of his position. He and his wife have already made clear what they think of America as great and greatest nation, but Cheney's work was really on the inside. Most of the time they came to the same conclusions anyway. He was damn good at working on the inside (not really a puppet master as some liberals want to maintain, but influential), regardless of one's perception of whether it was for the best or not.

He is a hawk with regard to what he conceives in the American interest. We are perhaps going to see him not really align with Neoconservatives with foreign policy, because he was more-so an ally..a sympathizer than Neoconservative (Fukuyama not all that long ago called him a "Jacksonian Conservative", probably because one could hardly pinpoint it). I do not quite think (could be wrong, it's far too early to tell) he had a "mugged by reality" moment as Vice President.

Regardless of the labeling problem (and it is always a problem), you are correct. It is entirely possible that Cheney just wants free markets internationally, and if the United States can do it for its benefit, yippee.

Well, you know, whatever the hell a "true conservative" is....

It's just that most recently the Goldwater/Paul sympathizers/fans have declared this is the true conservative. In a way there is something to it, then at the same time, it's practically a declarative fad because people blindly assume that there was only one way to be a conservative.
