I'm sorry for this lady's terrible loss, but all these safety rules are getting to be absurd. One kid dies of a freak accident and everyone else has to put up with some stupid new law. The politicians who write them can then claim that they are protecting the public safety and care about kids. The public gets saddled with new restrictions and a new federal oversight agency is created, along with more redtape to make life more irritating for the citizens.

i'm sorry, as a mom, one of the foods you don't give to toddlers is a hot dog, period. MOST of us know this. did the woman never read a book?

While this is absurd, I can't fathom losing one of my kids. I tend to give a pass on these things for a grieving parent. Don't know how I'd go on.

That one pisses my wife off to no end. She grew up in Germany, and misses those.

As for the OP, hey lady, guess what, life sux. I'm sorry beyond speech that her 4 year old died like this, a parents worst nightmare, but this is 100% a mother in denial, and a obviously a ****faced lawyer with $$ in his eyes. Think about it, a "good" lawyer, a teary-eyed mother with a huge heart wrneching story... a jury filled with women....

And a hot dog manufactrer, knowingly SELLING LETHAL PRODUCTS WITH NO WARNING!!!

Someone needs to buy this lady soem flowers, then slap the ever living **** out of her.

I doubt this lawsuit is going to go anywhere. Hot dogs have been sold like this for what, a century? The hot dog company will probably pay this gal off to go away.

I don't think there's any winners in this one other than the attorneys.

i agree, i can't imagine this. but's it's been 9 years since her son died, and very few children die from choking on food.

Changes my opinion of her a bit.

I had thought that her grief-stricken state she did this, but...

And while I would guess she still grieves, nine years later?

I would be very interested to know what size hot dog the kid choked on, and how closely he was being supervised at the time. I cut up the hot dogs I give my preschooler up into ~1/2" sections and that seems to be about right. Of course, just like anything else, the size probably depends upon the kid.

That is exactly what we did when we were new parents back during the last Ice Age. Just cut the Mastedon dogs into semi- circles or pie shaped pieces. What has happened is that parents must lack common sense and/or they are not supervising the little ones these days. You cannot legislate people into having smarts!! Maybe we need to steralize those people who are not smart enough to raise children!!! Just joking !! Well sort of !

The more things change, the more they stay the same, I guess.

I don't think raising children has to do with smarts as much as it has to do with attentiveness and being able to roll with the punches.

She can't litigate her own case, and if she is an attorney it seems like it would have taken her less than nine years to figure out a cause of action.
