Tracy Residents Now Have To Pay For 911 Calls

The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me....

What happens if you call from a pay phone?.....:)

A Pay phone? Say, there's one, right over there next to the LP vinyl records, in the typewriter section.

There it is, next to the buggy whips.

Now, that I can see. Call 911 when there is no emergency, and pay for the price of the response.

As for backcountry rescues, there is a service you can buy for less than $10 a year if you have a SPOT personal locator. I have one, and carry it whenever going to remote places. It does come with a warning that a frivolous call will cost you dearly, particularly if it results in helicopters being called out.

I always just carry a pint of gin with me on solo backpacking trips. I consider it as part of my first aid kit. I figure that if I am ever in the situation where I have to cut one of my arms off to rescue myself I don't want to be sober for it, and if I am ever so seriously injured out there that I am going to die, once again I don't want to be sober for it.

No date has been set for when the charges will go into effect.

look for this decision to be changed.

There are still pay phones in my city......:prof

Hell there are still pay phone on my campus. I had to use one once because my cell phone died and people were looking at me like wtf is he doing.

Same here - and they all have their numbers on the front - which means people call them just to annoy the hell out of others.

Good luck getting $300 worth of quarters to fit inside it!

My Fellow Americans:
I know you guys love low taxes. I love low taxes. Everyone loves low taxes. Sometimes, however, it becomes clear that certain services are being underfunded.

How about we all agree that there are certain things that must be fully funded, regardless of what that price is?

LIKE THE ABILITY TO CALL THE POLICE

Thanks,
Deuce

No, I don't agree.....
Life went on before there was a 911, it will go on without it....
For instance....
Everytime 911 is called here for any health emergency, a full size firetruck shows up, along with the cops....
You should be able to call the police & get the police without dialing 911 as part of the taxes you are already overpaying....;)

You can. You just have to know their number.

You don't get a fire truck on every call, that is totally incorrect. The dispatchers act as triage according to protocols. Yes, for a fire you get a fullsized firetruck, an ambulance with at least one paramedic, and most likely a cop car.

If it's an emergency the police station will put you in to 911. If it's a non-emergency, they'll take the call.

In the City of Seattle, you get one on any health related call......
If someone slips & falls in QFC a firetruck will respond every time, even if they only need an 'amberlamps'.......
Don't presume to know the protocalls for every juridiction....
That would be impossible.....;)

You are incorrect: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_&_King_County_Medic_One_System]Seattle & King County Medic One System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

Medic One is a dynamic layered response system. A Medic One response to an emergency begins with a telephone call to 9-1-1. Calls are transferred from a primary call taker to emergency medical call taker who gathers information from the caller, gives instructions to the caller, and determines what types of emergency personnel to send. For very serious and life threatening emergencies firefighters trained in basic life support and paramedics trained in advanced life support respond simultaneously. Paramedics transport patients in critical condition. For less severe emergencies only firefighters will be dispatched. Basic life support personnel from either a fire department or private ambulance company transport non-critical patients.

You literally will oppose anything just because a liberal said it.

I could say "i like puppies" and you would stand up and say ALL DOGS ARE EVIL AND SHOULD BE EXTERMINATED.

I then say "You're right! Kill the dogs!" And you'd respond "WHAT? YOU MONSTER! I LOVE DOGS AND WOULD NEVER HURT THEM!"

This is you.

You're wrong, as usual, I love my dog.....;)

About time

As a taxpayer why on earth should I be subsidizing those morons who need to use emergency services.

If you dont want to pay the fee dont get into the situation where you will need the police in an emergency, or fire department or an Ambulance(sp)

Or so some might think

Morons? Just because you have to call 911? :(

It is not like most people are looking to need to call 911. Things happen. What about someone having chest pains who needs to call? I doubt that person wanted to have a heart attack.

I do not even feel this should be legal and guess what? When someone cannot afford to call 911 and they die? Their family has ever right to sue.

In my hometown, we have a volunteer rescue squad, but the City Council got into it and started charging every time the ambulance was called out for an emergency. The way it works, if you have hospitalization, you have to pay for the ambulance call, but if you don't have hospitalization, you don't have to pay. Now, what's fair about that? It sure has put a hurting on the volunteer rescue squad donations, too.

I have no dog in this fight, but I can tell you that my brother, a lifelong firefighter who drove the BIG truck (the one for high-rise emergencies, with a second steering wheel in back), was routinely called to medical emergencies with his big ass truck, even when there were no flames to fight.

Edit: Where I live, amberlamp service is free (part of our county taxes). Yay me!
