Texas man flies plane into IRS building

Anti-IRS link probed in Austin plane crash

CBC News - World - Anti-IRS link probed in Austin plane crash

Officials are investigating whether a pilot intentionally crashed a small plane into a Texas office building that houses a U.S. Internal Revenue Service office.

Law enforcement officials identified the pilot as software engineer Joseph Stack, and they are looking at the Austin man's website for a possible motive for the crash.

They said the site contained a message posted Thursday in which he denounced the IRS and the government, citing earlier problems with the tax department.

If he did it intentionally, my question is, why is this not considered a terrorist attack?

Re: Anti-IRS link probed in Austin plane crash

We just had a 5 page debate on whether this guy was a terrorist or a just a crazy dude who went postal over in this thread. Given the amount of disagreement, I guess I conclude that what is considered terrorism is up for debate.

Ultimately though I guess the distinction isn't too important since what he did was obviously wrong.

Re: Plane crashes into Northwest Austin building (that houses the FBI)

His ranting suicide note was posted on Foxnews.com

Government can make you crazy. Especially these days.
Seems to me he did the crazy just fine all by himself.

Re: Anti-IRS link probed in Austin plane crash

Sorry, I didn't see this piece of news in the new posts.

They were working for the government, which makes them valid war targets.
Even though this guy wasn't a warring country.

"Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion"

He wasn't trying to terrify civilians and was attacking a valid government target and he's dead so he can't coerce anyone.

It was a revenge attack.

Re: Plane crashes into Northwest Austin building (that houses the FBI)

Indeed. FNC also reports the plane was a Cherokee 140. Here's a pic of a 1972 Cherokee 140.

Man this thing looks great for having been in a crash.

It's for sale, too. I'd buy it!

Re: Plane crashes into Northwest Austin building (that houses the FBI)

Look, I think the guy was a patriot....he hated the IRS! ;) j/k, it's a tragedy.

The Alabama shooter case must be all over with. Nothing on the cable news today but masterbating by CNN over and over and over and over about this plane thing.

Pretty much proof that Iran is working on a nuclear warhead was only a blip.

The first teabagger terrorist! Somebody decided to water the tree of liberty.

The man was very troubled and it seems that he'd do somehting like this no matter if it was the government or not. He had a lot of anger toward the World and decided to direct it at Uncle Sam. The man was a nut, but connecting him to 99.99999% of the Teaparty movement is idumb, childish, only only makes you look like a partisan clown. I feel like we are all about to go through a lot of that post-Tiller shooting BS again

Don't worry, he'll be called a liberal within hours. They'll find a way.

He was anti-capitalist and anti-socialist. I think that he was too filled with anger and hate really form much of an ideology

It was more of a "my life is unbelievably screwed up because I tried to cheat the IRS three times and got caught all three times but its EVERYONE ELSE'S FAULT BUT MINE!"

Those bastards caught him cheating three times on his taxes, it is SO THEIR FAULT THAT THIS HAPPENED!

Seriously, that manifesto is one giant projection of his mistakes onto everybody but himself.

Seriously, don't feed it ...

Re: Anti-IRS link probed in Austin plane crash

Because anybody who actually understands the meaning of terrorism knows that this isn't such an event.

Hell, NORAD agrees.

This is the awesome consequence of directed marketing. Web pages like these often scan the page for keywords to choose which ad to show you, the idea being that it's more likely to be an ad you're interested in.

Sometimes, however, you get this.

Thanks, what this thread was really missing was your uninformed, erroneous, and juvenile claims.

The guy's suicide note railed against the "monsters" of organized religion, the "presidential puppet of George W. Bush and his cronies," and signed off by lambasting communism and capitalism in turn.

Whatever this guy is, he's not emblematic of any particular ideology. To claim otherwise is just asinine. Can't someone just be a crazy without it turning into the blame game?
