Mitt Romney attacked by passenger on flight from Vancouver Winter Olympics

Mitt Romney is used to politicians taking shots at him, but was caught off guard when a plane passenger took a swing.

An unhappy man on a flight out of Vancouver got the boot on Monday when he threatened the former Massachusetts governor.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom says the one-time presidential candidate and his wife, Ann, were an Air Canada plane which was getting ready to take off when the incident occurred.

The man seated in front of Mrs. Romney pushed his seat back, and when the GOP politician asked that he put his seat upright for take off, the passenger became "physically violent," according to Canada's The Globe and Mail.

The ex-gov did not retaliate, his spokesman said, as the airline crew intervened. The plane returned to the gate, the man was ejected, and the flight resumed.

Romney was the CEO of the 2002 Salt Lake Games, and he and his wife were guests of honor at the Vancouver Olympics.

I'm sure it took a lot of self control not to retaliate in kind.

This is sad. What goes through the mind of a man that taking a swing at any one on an airplane seems like a good idea. What an idiot, glad Romney is ok.

Sounds like an unbalanced person to me. I very much doubt the fact that Mitt Romney is well known has anything to do with it.

I wanted to hit the guy that was sneezing w/o covering his mouth all over people on a three hour flight. A couple of days later yes I caught a cold.

I'd have probably decked the guy for taking a swing at me.

Kudos for Mitt on his self-control. The guy who swung at him sounds like a douchebag.

Not necessarily. If some guy did that to me, I'd let the crew handle it. Why risk getting yourself tossed from the plane for a violent reaction?

It's good the Romneys were unharmed. You have to wonder what goes through the minds of these people who start trouble on airplanes.

Is it my imagination or are incidents like these increasing?

I wonder if Mitt has a cleaner or two on retainer:mrgreen:

It seems to me they are increasing.

One of the hardest things in life is to just protect yourself and not go on the attack in self defense and drop the assailant.

I recommend that everyone learn how to defend themselves and to if need be take the bad guy down with just one move. It is so very hard to use restraint once you have the ability to effectively do this. A lot of people think you need to take some martial arts course for months to learn but it only takes a few seconds to learn.

Glad no one was hurt now I can't wait to see if the media follows up on the story.

the best possible way taking a bad guy with one move is pulling a trigger

He should have punched him at least once after the guy took a swing at him, it would have made great publicity. Think of all the SNL skits.

guy was probably a dem plant

sort of the guy who baited the GOP candidate in virginia "Macawcaw"

I would rather mitt romney had done a judo flip of somesort on him.

Ive been in one barfight and only one adult fight... and it was a punch intercept then a judo flip.

Putin wouldve made this bastard sorry.
