Excerpted “Secret Joint Raid Captures Taliban’s Top Commander” by Mark Mazzetti and Dexter Filkins, The New York Times, 1 minute ago
The taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks. …

I hope Cheney approves …

Is this Obama's fault?

Too bad under Obama he has the right to remain silent

Remember kids, you dont need to illegally cross the boarder to get US rights! Just kill a few people in Afghanistan and they are guaranteed by the Obama administration!

Give credit where it's due. Give Obama some love!

Proof that no matter how good the news, some one will find something to whine about.

I guess you didn't hear that Cheney voiced his support for the Afghan surge and McChrystal.

Im all about giving credit where it is due and I am really glad to see the successes they have made. It doesnt change the fact that they have done only a mediocre job overall in providing leadership. But where credit is due? You bet...

I expected that after the anti war lipservice during the election Obama would step into the reality of the role of Commander in Chief. What I DIDNT expect was the number of 'progressives' that suddenly get silent about the expanded role in Pakistan. I guess it really is top to bottom, politics as usual.

Some of these plans were already in the work prior to Obama, but don't tell the Dems cause they'll go into hysterics.

That's awesome news!

Go U.S.A!!!

Time to interrogate this assbag and find out where Bin Laden's lame ass is hiding!

Then cut his head off, put it in a sack, and play polo with it on camelback.

Ooo-rah.

I do not care who made the plans, or who pulled it off, except to say to them great job. If Bush and Cheney themselves planned this by hand, good job to them. Why we have to be all partisan about something that is just good news is beyond me. Let's just smile and enjoy that there is good news out of the middle east.

Obama will give him all the comforts of home just like a Citizen he will mirandize this scum........He has to look good for the scum in the mid east.....

Whose side you on? Obama's or the Taliban's?

The article said that the CIA and ISI captured a Taliban leader. What did Barack Obama do, exactly?

Hell, maybe he did do something (I don't know) but I'm not sure what it could be. Since you seem to want to give him credit, I was wondering what you were wanting to give him credit for. Do you not know?

He most likely at least authorized the attack, for which he does get some credit.

The big heroes are the ones who planned it, and much moreso the ones who carried it out. I would love to take all those out and buy them beers and thank them for what they did.

I agree that this is very good news, but I suspect Obama's policy views will drain it of its full potential. This Taliban leader should be immediately and aggressively exploited for intel. Once the scumbag stops yielding useful information, he should be processed by a military tribunal and executed without delay.

Was there a choice?

I agree. I wish I could have been part of the operation. I'd also like to help them extract actionable intel from this criminal warlord, and use that intel to plan future raids on our enemies, and on and on until they're all dead or surrendered.

Fair enough. I'm very glad of it, and I don't want to make it partisan, but certain people are trying to give Obama credit for this operation, and I'm just not sure what he had to do with it. Seems like that's kind of partisan, too.

Likely he will remain in one of the CIA prisons that is run in the middle east...nice conveeeeeenient way to avoid the GITMO dillema.

Don't forget to read him his Miranda Rights.
