Women say some rape victims should take blame - survey

Do you get that lethal force is authorized to prevent a rape?

How many people here oppose concealed carry?

You you oppose concealed carry, you therefore necessarily support rape.
this is not a gun thread.

Yeah but you do, so deal with it.

Actually, I have never carried a gun in my life, and never wished I had. If it takes a gun for you to feel safe, that is a problem with you.

This is not a gun thread, but guns stop crime, so if you don't want to get raped you can pack heat.

This isn't a fashion thread either, but if you want to lower the risk of being raped, don't dress like a slut.

This isn't a sexuality thread either, but if you want to lower the risk of being raped, don't tease every dick at the bar.

This isn't the Tavern forum, but if you want to lower your chances of being raped, either lay off the hard booze and/or go with trusted friends.

Women only want to be the weaker sex when it's convenient......;)

I carry a gun, I feel safe, where's the problem :2wave:

I don't dress like a man-slut, I don't tease dunk guys at the bar, I lay off the hard booze, and guess what: I've never been raped

Wow...just wow. I agree with the third comment (alcohol is a major factor in crime victimization of all kinds, not just rape), but the first two are just ridiculously repressed and smack of a kind of deep-seated bitterness towards women that I don't even know how to respond to.

Alcohol is a huge risk factor for rape. It is a factual point that women need to be extremely careful when consuming alcohol. But the rest is just misogynistic b.s.

Let's spin it...

If men want to avoid being accused of rape, they should stop dressing like sluts and stop being ***** teases. Otherwise, they may get themselves into trouble.

What in the...

1n 2008, there was about a 1/3 of 1 % chance of being the victim of a violent crime. Now tell me again why I should have to carry a gun to feel safe.

I should be able to dress however I want without some asshole taking it as permission to rape. That is 100 % blaming the victim.

Using your logic, if I don't want to worry about rape, I just should never leave the house. I would be undeniably safer.

I feel safe without a gun. I feel even safer with one.

IMO, women aren't trained in self defense, enough. Primarily the use of improvised weaponry; what to use and how to use it.

When I was at Fort Hood, Texas A&M, Central Texas in Killeen and the Army put on a self defense program on campus for all the sororities. I taught one class and the first thing I did was empty out some random chick's purse and found about 8 different items that could be used as improvised weapons.

Most of the responses I got from those girls were, "gee, I never even thought about that".

This is the real world. There are bad people out there. Sometimes, we are forced to protect ourselves from violence with the use of violence.

I suspect if someone had tried it we'd be reading the coroner's inquest report

I know wtf!! Damn Jerry and him speaking out in support of women's safty!! Who the **** am I to point out what inspires men to sex crime!! It's not like I would know how a man thinks or anything.

If men want to avoid being accused of rape, they should stop dressing like sluts and stop being ***** teases. Otherwise, they may get themselves into trouble.

Apparently I'm a lot better than you when it comes to creating :spin:

Let's test that theory, shall we?

Men, if you don't want to be accused of rape, stop ****ing her if she passes out!

If you don't want to be accused of rape, stay away from jail bait!!

If you get her pregnant, and her husband (or father) finds out, that whore will say you raped her just to save face!! So use a goddamd condom!!

...or does that sound like ridiculously repressed and smack of a kind of deep-seated bitterness towards men that you don't even know how to respond to?

I guess it's because of my job, but I am exceptionally aware of my surroundings (of course, I work in dangerous cities, too, which makes a difference). I'm not scared of being victimized, but I am very cognizant of my own behavior and where I'm at. I think a lot of women are incredibly naive and/or stupid.

I live in a college town, and a significant percentage of college girls behave in really stupid ways.

I 100 % endorse self defense classes. Not so much due to the likelihood they will be necessary(which is very very small), but they are great for building self esteem, which is something that far too many women, especially younger ones, lack.

However, I again point out that the chance of being a victim of a violent crime is surprisingly small. Table 1 - Crime in the United States 2008

There is zero evidence that clothing style influences rape.

Yes, I am aware of this. I was responding to Jerry's comment about dress. I also think there are two types of rape(or more), one which is purely a violent crime, and the other, most closely identified with date rape, where the intent is not violence. I think dress may play some small factor in this type, though not nearly as much as other factors.

while dress may have nothing to do with rape, it has much to do with whether a date rape results in a conviction or an acquittal

IS it your claim that rapists select victims based upon their clothing? If so, you're mistaken and you understand very little about rape.

There are about 5 different typologies of rapists according to the FBI:
