Marvel Comics' depiction of anti-tax protesters inspires anger, apology - Yahoo! News

"Issue 602 of the comic features Captain America investigating a right-wing anti-government militia group called "the Watchdogs". Hoping to infiltrate the group, Captain America and his African-American sidekick The Falcon observe an anti-tax protest from a rooftop. The protestors depicted are all white and carry signs adorned with slogans almost identical to those seen today in Tea Party rallies like "tea bag libs before they tea bag you" and "stop the socialists."

I don't think Marvel should apologize. The Tea-Baggers are a tough bunch right? They can take it. Oh wait, they can't? Figures.

I think that if your stupid enough to call yourself a 'Tea-Bagger', you deserve it.

I don't think Marvel should apoligze, either. In fact, I believe they should ramp up the vitriol. That way, they will pump even more water into the hull of the already sinking Liberal agenda, which would be the greatest thing that ever happened to this country and probably the world.

Yes, Marvel Comics will sink the Democrat ship. And DC will blow up the Libertarian Zeppelin, leaving only Image and the Republican Submarine!

Spawn FTW!

I knew Jack Kirby. Lived three houses down. I was good friends with his daughters Lisa and Sue when I was a teenager (early 70s).

Jack was a kind, fair, wise man. A fairly liberal guy, from what I observed. He and Roz opened their home and their hearts to pretty much everyone, without prejudice - I met all sorts of interesting and unusual people at their house. Sue was, by that time, semi-openly gay (she never spoke about it, but she didn't exactly hide it, either). Being out was something of a rarity in the early 70s, but Jack and Roz were proud of her and their love was unconditional.

I suspect Jack's crowd images might have included a sprinkling of non-WASP faces, but I feel certain he would have been appalled at the kind of things typically seen at Tea Party rallies (conspiracy theories about Obama's heritage, rants about socialism/fascism/Nazism, images of Obama as an African warrior, as Hitler, as The Joker, etc.), and wouldn't have hesitated to produce something quite similar to this Marvel piece.

Actually, the X-Men had a liberal influence on me, the comic was mainly about battling intolerance and hatred toward people that are different.

Tolerance is the true price of freedom, a fact that is missed by many when speaking their 'brave words' like "freedom isn't free" in order to justify the deaths and maiming of 18 year old American boys and foreign civilians.

I think a 'fatwa' is in order for the publisher.....:)

The Punisher had a conservative influence on me.

Spidey was also conservative, always talking about personal responsibility and such. The Hulk was a libertarian, and Wolverine was obviously a socialist.

HULK SMASH!!!!!

Well Wolvie was Canadian

This is all Captain America's fault.

Didn't know him at all, but I certainly see things that appall me.

:tongue4:

I see him (and the current political climate in DC) more as Sir.

You know, I thought some of you people were nasty when bush was in office, but geeze between palin and these "teabagger" threads...... I'm actually thinking some of you got worse. :lamo

So the libtards running a comic book company are employing traditional Progressive political ploys like "smear and lie" and the libtards on this forum like it.

Not too surprising.

Then again, since I'm an adult, I don't read comic books and would never have known about Marvel's idiocy if I wasn't told.

I'm not surprised that so many socialists and liberals read comics still.

They learned well from the master Karl Rove.

So are you one of the said Ballsac - uh teabaggers?

Funny...

Here's pictures from the Tea Party in Chicago:

BREAKING! Chicago Tax Day Tea Party Pictures! : Founding Bloggers

I think I saw the back of one head that appeared to be non-white.

And I saw a lot of signs about Socialism; and depicting Obama in less than respectful ways.

So, what's not accurate about Marvel's depiction?

But to counter that we have Nightcrawler and the Archangel representing the Religious Right.

Actually, Nightcrawler is German, so he's probably a Christian Democrat, while Archangel is called so only because he has wings. He's actually the son of a wealthy industrialist, so he's probably more of a fiscal conservative than a religious conservative.
