Competitive race brews in Murtha's district - CNN.com

By Paul Steinhauser, CNN Deputy Political DirectorFebruary 11, 2010 3:16 p.m. EST

- The mountains and valleys of southwestern Pennsylvania seem a world away from Washington, but they may soon be the scene of a fierce campaign battle between Democrats and Republicans.

Monday's death of Democratic Rep. John Murtha triggers a special election for his office, and conventional wisdom says the GOP has a good chance to pick up a House seat.

While Murtha rarely had any serious challenges in his 18 re-election contests, his party doesn't dominate what's considered a socially conservative district, which stretches from Cambria County in west-central Pennsylvania down to the southwestern corner of the state.

In the 2004 presidential election, Sen. John Kerry won Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District by 2 percentage points. But Sen. John McCain narrowly edged out Barack Obama in that district in the 2008 presidential contest, even though Obama carried the state by 10 percent. The 12th was the only congressional district Kerry won in 2004 that McCain carried four years later.

Well, interesting, but who's the Republican? He gonna be an American or a RINO?

Wow. A republican might win a Dem's seat in the House. In a District that is the most porktacular in America.

Now DC will become honest and ethical, spending will stop, pork will disappear, entitlements will be cut, and our government will become the most efficient on the planet.

He won't be a RINO.. Western Pa. is very Conservative..Murtha use to be a conservative until he went senile..........Even Bob Casey is pro life.....They will find a good conservative candidate.....The dems are in trouble because of that and they know it..........

If he was a true American he would be a democrat.

/insulting the patriotism of others just because they don't agree with you on every issue.

Doesn't take much to do that.........Hell your buddy 26 champs use to do it every day...........:rofl

....Are you still trying to push lies? Your old ass already got schooled on this matter a few times. Would you like for us to do it one more?

Why don't you stand Navy, be interesting to see how many more than an initial 20 votes you might get.

Interesting that you would attack NP, yet ignore the article from CNN that confirms NP's anecdotal comment that a Republican might take the seat.

Just curious; how many midterms have we had that the party of the setting President hasn’t lost a few seats in congress?

I'll remind you of this post when the district seats a republican later this year in that seat :)

Thanks my friend, I can't read his posts because they are blocked....I don't know why he responds to my posts.....I wish they had and age limit somehow in DP.....

Me too. An old and a young limit.

And a logic and reason minimum requirement but it would be so boring without the liberals around so never mind. :2wave:

So the only thing your relatives care about is the political party? It's it logical to find out who is running on both sides, check their voting records, and find out more about them in general before you decide?

How do you know they haven't ??

How do you know they haven't ??

Well in the article it lists a few people who will possibly run and one who said he will run... But isn't it a little early? Shouldn't they wait till the rest of the candidates announce before making a judgment?
