Feds push for tracking cell phones

This can't possibly fly.

I'm willing to sacrifice some freedom for security, but this is a gargantuan undertaking that our Fed Govt will flub. What happened to good old intelligence operations?

The Democrats discussing in all seriousness the criminal prosecution of lawyers who advise the president that a procedure the courts have already approved is lawful.

As opposed to just turning the cell phone off? If the cellphone is merely turned off if can still be tracked?

Believe it or not, if you turn your cell phone off, you can still be tracked. You must take the battery out.

Hm. After reading the entire article, it doesn't seem to me like anything is being done by the government that it is illegal for private citizens to do. You cannot expect privacy when you're in public.

This is the best they could come up with:

And yet there's nothing to stop people from just following your car to see where you're going. There's no law against finding out "sensitive information".
This is not the same. With cell phone tracking you will never know it's being done, and just as they can listen to your conversations by remotely accessing your cell microphone, you are unaware of it. People do believe that they are having a private conversation on the phone, why do you think wireless home phone security was a big deal some years ago. They add digital rolling codes and stuff.

Total protection from eavesdropping, thanks to the invisible mobile phone | Voice activated recorders

People do not expect to be followed around by the goverment in their daily lives. The govt's primary duty to maintain liberty, constraint it.
