Rep. John Murtha, Iraq war critic, dies at 77 (not a [r.i.p] thread) be warned

***** Murtha became the embidiment of what is wrong with Congress and our system. He had one goal - to hang onto his seat no matter what. He moved to the Left to avoid any possibility of a challenge from a younger Hard Liberal. The only way he was going to leave was Feet First.

****** Yesterday he went out horizontal and the seat might now go Republican.

Nice strawman... Is that western hay?

Thanks man. I do what I can. :rofl

If I only had a brain.

I totally agree.

Are you denying they were found not guilty? You must be the only one in the world who did not know it......

Psssst.....

Four enlisted Marines, including Sharratt, were originally charged for their roles in the killings and four officers were charged in connection to the investigation. One officer was acquitted and charges have since been dropped against everyone else except Wuterich, whose case is pending.

This was in sept., '08. Do you have any info on the ones that were not acquitted? Did they go to trial? Were those the one's found not guilty?

I mean, being acquitted, kinda means, "not guity" don't it?

I'm Googling for links. If anybody has any, please share. Enquiring minds wanna know.

Im on my iphone. Do me a favor spend 5 mins on google. If you are still at a loss when i have a bettwr system ill show you the not only accuitals but where some were pronounced innocent.

I already know the answer. Of the 8 Marines, only 1 was found innocent. 6 of them had their cases dropped, and 1 is still facing charges and a trial.

So unless you have evidence to the contrary, your previous statement is false.

As of June 17, 2008, six defendants had their cases dropped and one was found not guilty. The exception is SSgt. Wuterich, whose trial date has been postponed.[12] At least three officers have been officially reprimanded for failing to properly initially report and investigate the killings.[13]

Facts, schmacks, you wascal-wee wabbit.

Dela Cruz testimony

Sanick Dela Cruz claimed that Wuterich had, following a bombing in which Marines were injured and that took place about one week prior to the Haditha incident, instructed his men to kill any nearby Iraqi in case of another bombing to "teach them a lesson". Dela Cruz also contradicted Wuterich's account that the five unarmed men from a nearby car, which Wuterich is accused of having shot to death, were trying to run away, and instead said that they were "just standing around", and that some of them held their hands behind their heads when Wuterich opened fire. He claimed that Wuterich then shot them in the chests at close range to ensure their death. Dela Cruz admitted to having fired upon the men himself but claimed that by the time they had already been dead. He also admitted to having urinated on one of the bodies, and said that at the time he thought the men were responsible for the bombing, and that his emotions had taken over due to the death of Lance Corporal Terrazas and the injuries the IED inflicted on two other Marines.

Dela Cruz also testified that Wuterich later instructed him to tell anyone who asked that the men had tried to run away, and were consequently shot by the "Iraqi Army". Dela Cruz admitted to having lied to investigators on at least two occasions and claimed that he could not tell the truth until prosecutors dropped the charges against him.[citation needed]

Aerial footage of the area that an unmanned drone shot minutes after the IED explosion put the claim that the men had tried to flee into question, but also cast doubt about Dela Cruz's account of his role in the shooting.[13]

Lt. Col. Colby Vokey, one of Wuterich's defense attorneys, disputed Dela Cruz's account of the incident and questioned his credibility for changing his story several times during the investigation.[citation needed]

On September 2, 2007, an updated re-airing of 60 Minutes, narrated by Scott Pelley, disclosed that Wuterich did not have to go to Iraq, but went because "he wanted to see war". Pelley also revealed that all charges had since been dropped against Sanick Dela Cruz and two others.

Dela Cruz recounted his story in an in-depth profile in the July 2008 edition of Chicago Magazine, speaking about the ordeal to a journalist for the first time.

I guess the thing that really bothers me is Murtha is and EX marine. He should have never run his mouth off about those marines and what is really sad he called them murderers on the day the incident happened without any proof...........

If running your mouth without proof were a crime Navy....you'd be serving life without parole. :doh

Oh so that we have confirmed he slandered 7 and possibly one more its ok?

Has Wuterich been tried yet. I can not find anything about it.

Personally, my gut feeling was that Bush had every intention on attacking Iraq before they ever swore him in. I can't prove it though. 9/11 was just an untimely deterrent to him, IMO. But it didn't take him long to get back on track. All he had to do is throw a carefully orchestrated bone to the propaganda mill and have them make American's believe Iraq and 9/11 were two of the same. Some fell for it. Some didn't. Hindsite being 20/20 I can't help but want to go "neener-neener" sometimes, but it's pointless.

But as my friend Conservative says, we are in the here and now. No use in digging up old bones.

But Murtha, love him or hate him, we can all agree, another war-dog bites the dust. I hope many more join him.

If you keep talking like that, you will have this thread removed to the conspiracy section.

Bush didn't run down our Marines for doing what they do best, kill the enemy. Murtha, a former Marine took that on. In case you forget, the world has ears about anything our politicians say about the war effort. All of it emboldens our enemies. Just hang on until Americans get so sick of the war, that they elect a leader who will remove the troops. Well, we have one now who campaigned on just that rhetoric. He's working on it, while ignoring Ahmadinejad and his aspirations for world domination.

Only one was found not guilty. Of the remaining, 6 had their charges dropped and one is still facing trial.

Try again.

Does anyone know the number of innocent civilians killed in Iraq since the war started?

Such a disingenuous question, you were a Whistlestopper member when this issue was front burner, why not merely check on the lancet report for such figures?

He's got new blood, now. I'm quite sure if he checked the Huffington Post, he would find some interesting figures, but whether they were true is another guess.

I would like accurate figures.

Im thinking nowhere near the number killed by Saddam Hussein before the war, or by the 'insurgents' after the war ended.

So the US came in third place?

So the US came in third place?

If thats how you want to view it. Certainly some civilians died because of the war. Estimates range Saddam killed between 1-2.5 million. Of course his sons and the guard were responsible for the rape and torture of God only knows how many...and I have no idea how many innocent civilians are slaughtered by muslim terrorists.

If it fits more in line with your anti Bush, anti USA, anti military slant lets just say George Bush killed all of them.
