WASHINGTON – Mid-Atlantic residents were buried Saturday from a likely record-setting blizzard the president jokingly dubbed "Snowmageddon," and those brave enough tried to clear a path through the wet, heavy mounds of thigh-high snow.

The snow was falling too quickly in the nation's capital for crews to keep up, and officials begged residents to stay home and out of the way so that roads might be cleared in time for everyone to return to work Monday. The usually traffic-snarled roads were mostly barren, and Washington's familiar sites and monuments were covered with nearly 2 feet of snow.

They are calling it the worst snow storm in about 100 years. At this time, hundreds of thousands are without any power or heat, with biting temperatures and wind chills. Some deaths can be expected from this. Let's pray that the death toll turns out to be low.

Article is here.

Fortunately, the power is still on here in Cleveland Park (Northwest DC). We have well over 2 feet of snow though, and it's still coming down. We could have as much as 30 inches by the time this is over.

Come on. We are acting like a couple of idiots here, arguing about what to call it. In the spirit of compromise (And also because I am too damn lazy to defend my word for the snowstorm), let's just call this.....

The ohmyfingGodapocageddonofacraploadofsnow. That will cover a few other bases, just in case others decide to argue their own word for it.

Good luck to you getting through this. Hope you did not have plans this weekend.

I am sure he has many plans, and I am also sure that a snow shovel is in all of them. Reminds me of why I do not feel bad about leaving Michigan. LOL.

This is what we in Nothern Wisconsin call "small flurries".

We got kind of a mix down here in southeastern Va. It'd snow yesterday turning to rain then snow again today. Didn't really stick to the roads.

You cold hearted bastard....

Though I would point out we have had very little snow here in Michigan this year.

Worst is I am snowed in, and I ran out of smokes!!!!!!!
Don'tcha know? Not smoking is good for your physical health!
Bless the snowstorm, you will now live 1 hour longer!!!

And in my part of Canada, it feels like spring! I had the window open for part of the day, and went outside without a jacket today! Ahh...ironic no?, coming from the "Great White North"?

Any sign of snow for the Winter Olympics next week?

30" in my backyard here just outside of Dulles in Northern VA. The craziest part of it is that we already had about 24" in December which was a top 10 snow fall for the region.

Boone got 8 inches, but there's ice every where.

Friday I almost didn't make it to the coffee shop (~ 1 mile walk). I don't know what I would have done without my coffee-- I suppose my world would explode.

Fortunately I live in an apartment building, so I don't have to worry about snow shoveling. Not that shoveling snow would do me any good anyway...I have no way of getting anywhere because none of the public transit systems are running today.

Do you go to App State? My roommate worked there for a year.

I would normally trade Minnesota weather for DC weather....But certainly not today.Hospitals will be crammed pack with hernia patients by the time it's done.

No one owns or can borrow a snow blower?

Even in Minnesocold we have thousands that do not have access to a snow blower.

Shovels work just as well as snow blowers. I own a snow blower, and I never even use the thing. I forget why I even bought it. My shovel gets a lot of work though.

I get a great workout shoveling my driveway.
